TBH I think it's a bit unfair to compare the stats for a start-up club that had no youth team with an established club that's part of City Football Group. This is, what our 10th season as part of CFG? Put that into perspective and we ought to be ashamed of two pathetic performances in the Asian Champions League and the insipid football we are playing this season. The club that Ante Milicic called "the benchmark for the A-League?"

IMO TalkingCity are right to call us out for "letting the fans down."

That’s why I was curious to see how JVS stacked up against the others if you only look at City games played, and not take any heart games into account.

Click on his name and you'll see there is not much difference.

Melbourne City assistant Raffaele Napoli will again cover for head coach Aurelio Vidmar — who was hospitalised last week — against Central Coast tomorrow. [nca]

Crikey that’s seriously ill. Hope he’s on the mend at least.

This Napoli bloke, when did he actually join the club? I haven’t been following this sort of thing closely but he wasn’t there at the start of the season.

Long termer at the club (might have been here at the very start, if I'm not mistaken ) - originally on the Sports Science side of things, now on the coaching side.

Not sure whether he was with Heart at the start, but as you say he has been at the club a long time and I don't think has held a senior job with another club at all. Indeed Head of Sports Science at one stage, but I didn't know he had coaching qualifications at all. Has not taken charge of the team before last match. Forgotten his name but one assistant left earlier when van Houten quit.

Goodness, we seem to be at rock bottom this season. I would have thought CFG would have at least an experienced assistant coach who could be parachuted in. Maybe they've given up on us too!

He left the club with PK and was his assistant at Troyes. He returned to the franchise to replace Petr Kratky when he left

Ah, yes, the little grey cells have been activated. So he did leave, but I didn't know he'd actually returned.  Did he take charge of Troyes at any stage @belaguttman?

Every time you think the situation is bad it just gets worse...

Incidentally, Troyes are still just hanging on, one place above the bottom four of Ligue 2.

He was a coach at TroyesK. I recall that PK missed a game through illness, but I don't think Napoli took over as interim game, it was one of the other coaches.

Troyes issue was more than just PK

As ours is more than Rado and Aurelio.

I'd prefer keeping the appointment in house. I'd like to see Dario appointed. I think he's shown good coaching of the women's team over the last two years with a team which has had to chop and change players and hasn't been as strong as when PK had them. I'd like to also see Jamo stay as AM with him being next cab off the rank once he finishes his qualifications. I'd also like to see Griffiths come back in a coaching role.

Not sure myself. One possible problem with promoting in-house is that the players are too familiar with the coaches and don't have enough respect for them. I also don't know what different skills a women's coach might need to step up to being a men's coach. Just think of the personal relationships (in the broad sense) you have with men and women...

Might work if we have a lot of new players, but otherwise I don't think it's a good idea. I just think that after this season we need an injection of some new ideas and approaches.

Personally, I think that for Jamo to grow, he will also need to move to other clubs whether within the CFG group or elsewhere. I would contemplate having Dario ahead of PK or Popovic.

Just in case you haven't noticed, there will be wholesale changes to the playing roster.

Was said on the channel 10 broadcast that Vidmar has signed a 2 year deal with the club.

i wish this was a joke.

This news is about as inspiring as our profligacy in front of goal tonight.

Yeah. Des Buckingham just won Oxford United promotion to the Championship. Arthur Papas is an experienced coach and good with developing young players.

Instead we get lumbered with the uninspiring Vidmar.

I just can't help feeling that we're going backwards.

This all seems way too similar to the rush decision on signing Vidosic...we may assemble a better squad for next season but we'll be coached by a mid-table manager. 🙄

It will be interesting to see what happens between now and September in terms of the remaining out-of-contract players and any new arrivals. I get the feeling that we are bottom of the CFG pile, above us Troyes and then Mumbai.

I have withdrawn from the auto-renewal membership option. I've no doubt that I will rejoin, but I want to see what we've got before coughing up any of my hard-earned. It's not as if there is a shortage of available seats...or that Mansour needs my money.

I still don't understand the rush to appoint Vidmar. The guy is bog average at best. We had a whole off-season to find and appoint a quality coach. Pour some $60m+ into facilities at Bundoora and now Casey Fields, and then employ a bog average coach? Does not make sense to me. We spent $20m+ at Bundoora and then walked away - think of the marquee players we could have signed for that. WTF are we doing?

Petrillo said he wanted "Stability" 🙄

So he wants to finish sixth next season too? I would have preferred to read that we had appointed someone with an excellent track record, and to read that "he wants success."

i would have liked that too, if we brought in a manager with a proven track record I would have more patience with them but if Vidmar doesn't start firing right away 99% of the fanbase will be asking him to resign.

I'm telling you, CFG have completely given up on us. They don't give a shit if we do well or not

Tbh i don't know about that, I think a lot of people think CFG are more hands on than they actually are.

Petrillo seems to be very influential with how the club is run and seems like CFG have a lot of trust in him. Apparently all incomings need to be approved by Brian Marwood but apart from that the club have free reign.

Michael Petrillo, as far as I know, is a professional sports administrator who has no significant record as a player or coach at any level of football.

Brian Marwood is a former professional footballer who played over 400 matches in the EPL and once for England. Again AFAIK he has no significant record as a coach at any level of football. He was Chairman of the PFA for three years.

Actually, despite our criticisms of Vidmar, in reality he probably knows more about what type of player we need to perform well in both Australia and Asia than the other two combined.

As for our board, without rigorous checking, the only one I have seen in a in a real football context is Al Mubarak. I saw him in a video playing in a Charity Match somewhere, and although getting a bit portly he showed some nice skills and moved like a real footballer does!
