jw1739
This rumour was on 442 a couple of days ago. TBH, don't know what City can do; we are between a rock and a hard place. A League is a microcosm of the big League's. Last time I was in Italy over a decade ago they had over 50 newspapers just on soccer. illeatyourheart
I'll try and translate it Quote The owners of Melbourne City are the owners of City Group, who own Manchester City, New York City and Yokohama of Japan. "I don't know if this is a step to return to Europe, but maybe it is for the Asian market. I encountered a market I didn't know about and that I didn't think was so big. And as things are going pretty well, it's normal that doors should open in markets like China, Japan or Qatar, which also is very close and they look a lot at Australian football. Other doors can open, although I'm very happy here. I have another year left on my contract and I'm very comfortable, not only I but my family too. Living here is spectacular." The salaries in Australian football are not very superior to those of a big club in Uruguay, but the infrastructure es very good and the stadiums are impressive. "This is a league that has everything to grow, like it has done in recent years and if they wager to pay better salaries, it will become a very improtant league in a few years. The salaries here are low. There is a salary cap and only two players per team can earn more than this cap. And the obligation is that one be Australian and the other a foreigner. I am not on of those. I didn't come for the money, but to open another door. And to take a leap in my career." Melbourne is the largest city of the state of Victoria and it used to be the first capital of Australia. A few years ago, it was considered the most liveable city in the world. "Here there is a constant debate about which city is the most beuatiful out of Melbourne and Sydney. I've been to Sydney only to play and I haven't gotten to know the city yet, but this is first world, first world. The city has all that comes with living in the first world. That was one of the things that made me decide to come. Melbourne is a multicultural city, it has people from all over the world. And everyone is respected. There are always important spectacles, now there is the tennis open, and also the Formula 1. It's a busy city in that there are always things to do. So it looks, to me, like he likes it here a lot. And if he were to leave it would be towards Asia moreso than back to Uruguay.
Deeming
The World Game, Four Four Two and Goal now all reporting the rumor and that but it is the same report for all three. Quote However, when contacted, City refused to comment on the situation. "The club does not comment on media speculation," I get why the club does this and I agree but it does make you nervous. After CFG rejected offers for Mooy I would have rejected this story but after the recent releases of Tando and Erik I'm not as sure (yes I know there a massive gulf in class between them). rass
Anyone seriously planning to come and play in Australia, should undoubtedly be keeping an eye on local news. The W-League GF on the weekend was massive, not just because of the result, but the glowing comments from rival coaches and the media alike on the level of professionalism and support/opportunities available to players in our club. Basically saying we are miles ahead of any other club in the league. Publicity like that would surely make us far more appealing destination than any other club.

Spiranovic and Sainsbury aren't half bad, but not exactly massively better than the rest when each played / left the a league. tommac
I think he's pretty solid- one of those guys who seems to be in good sides, whilst never being an absolute standout. He should bring the 'winning mentality' that we have prioritised in all our signings this season. CCM were a very successful team in his years there ( Captain for a lot of them), and his team just won the K-League. If Ange thinks he's Australia's 3rd best CB behind Sains and Spira, then that's still better than every other Australian CB in the A-league. I think it's a really good signing, and will provide stability across our back 3/4 for a few years, and allow us to utilise our visa/marquee spots for the midfield/defence. Murfy1
Melbourne City’s busy transfer window will make the squad stronger, says Jacob Melling 3 February 2016 Matt Windley JACOB Melling insists the recent flurry of transfer activity at Melbourne City will not stall the momentum built by the glamour A-League club. City has stormed up the table in recent times, but were given somewhat of a reality check in last week’s 4-3 loss to Western Sydney. New signings Osama Malik, Anthony Caceres and Nick Fitzgerald were all on the teamsheet against the Wanderers while the club’s defensive stocks are seemingly set to be bolstered further by the likely arrival of Socceroo Alex Wilkinson in the coming days. With Erik Paartalu this week following January departures Robert Koren, Stefan Mauk, David Williams and Tando Velaphi out the exit door, City players would be forgiven for feeling as if it is the start of a new pre-season campaign such has been the level of turnover. But Melling said the signings are only going to strengthen the team as it seeks to win a maiden title. “It has been a bit crazy, not knowing what’s going on with players,” Melling said. “You can only focus on yourself and what you’re doing, but it has been a little bit rough, having that team that you thought you’d stick with for the rest of the season and now that’s obviously going to change. “But we’ll start to jel again and get the team all sorted for, hopefully, being in the finals and putting ourselves in contention to win the league. “I think we can hit the ground running, we’ve got some great new players in and everyone’s starting to bond quite well. The team’s only going to get stronger.” For Melling personally, Paartalu’s departure — assuming there’s no more out of the blue signings — presents a greater opportunity for him to play a bigger role in his favoured midfield position. But the 20-year-old, who has also been sporadically deployed in an unfamiliar central defensive role in the past couple of months, is happy to be thrown anywhere coach John van’t Schip needs him. And having only ever played a couple of junior games in that position before, Melling said his backline experience will only help his midfield game. “Defenders tell you ‘there’s no movement’ or you need to do this or that,” he said. “But playing there now you can actually see the difference and what they mean. So it’s definitely been beneficial and I’m learning every day.” http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/football/a-league/teams/melbourne-city/melbourne-citys-busy-transfer-window-will-make-the-squad-stronger-says-jacob-melling/news-story/627b4817ac28637099fb9ef3cd5d1c15

If he is fit he'll surely be in our first 2 centre backs selected, what with Chapman out for ages (not convinced he will be back this season), Kisnorbo probably out a couple of weeks and Hughes being a questionable proposition seemingly every week. He would get the job done at the back and allow Malik to play as a DM, which we desperately need now.
