IMO that's making a connection between club and fans that City should emulate.
Shahanga
Does anyone know if there is a plan for the Crypto Lads? I have a feeling it's still not locked in, could be wrong though. Also, Brad Jones will certainly be their starting GK so they've got some pretty handy players. Ultimately though, Garcia is still manager so I expect them to be shit. Sick that Sturridge is playing here though.

Shahanga
Sturridge is a massive massive signing for the league. He’ll draw a lot of attention. Football wise not sure what he’s been up to, but I’m assuming even a few years on he’ll be a major force in the league. Problem for Perth is, I thought they needed to replace the 46 year old Castro, rather than duplicate Fornaroli. It does make you wonder what Garcia’s match plan will be (and how long before he’s fired). Anyway, regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing one of my favourite players grace the A League. bt50
IMO this is a great get for the league in terms of piquing interest and adding some colour, and im sure he'll provide a few great moments in attack. But i reckon he'll be a relative flop playing wise, they'll be even worse defensively than they were this year and Perth will still struggle to break the top 4
Harrison
Happy for them. It definitely lifts the profile of their club and the league. I know European football fans who are talking a bit about the league on the back of this. Just on a related note, what is it with Perth and their fascination with over-30s players. Reddy, Jones, Ota, Lachman, Malik, Fornaroli, Keogh, Sturridge and Sardinero all over 30. Even Clisby is 29. They must have the oldest squad and best XI in the league once again. Correct. I saw this last night too, via ABC News. APL apparently has procedures in place now such that if a club goes belly up the licence for it to play in the League will be sold, and that this should be effected in 10 weeks. How this fits with receivership I'm not sure. The article reported that KordaMentha are the receivers. Indeed, not good. With Victory having sold themselves to the devil, I fear for the survival of the League, and how at this time Football Australia can still entertain thoughts of a National Second Division is quite beyond me. They have nothing to do with the a-leagues now that's APL's problem. FA will do whatever gets them money which is now the 2nd division as besides the national teams got no other revenue, and teams that join will need to meet certain $$ and make it sustainable
jw1739
@HughJass You may very well be correct but I'm still not sure of the exact administrative arrangements. Only tonight did I come across a website about APL, which is here: https://aplfootball.com.au/ (and a brief comment here on it is how easy to see how APL is soaking up the money on administration). I do note however that FA's this season's calendar https://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news/football-australia-release-domestic-match-calendar-202324 includes reference to the A-Leagues, and I also note Garcia's comments concerning international breaks: “As part of the scheduling, we’ve also been working closely with Football Australia, Clubs and other stakeholders to determine the best path forward for our season alongside the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023. In order to maintain consistency, to avoid mid-week regular season games and congestion with the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup competitions, it has collectively been decided that we will not pause the regular season during the tournament.” I'm uncertain about subjects such as match officials and disciplinary actions. And my understanding is that it is Football Australia that has membership of the AFC and FIFA, and players (and transfers and loans) have to be registered with FA in order to participate in all FIFA matches, internationals and inter-club matches such as the Asian Champions League. I doubt very much that APL can just cock a snook at FA and go out on its own, whatever any formal linkages there are or not, as there would be a mass exodus of players aspiring to go anywhere with their careers. APL appears to be going broke as it is and this would hasten its demise. Edited July 23, 2023 by jw1739

I was referring to your point about pushing ahead with a 2nd division while the aleague is slowly falling apart for the FA that doesn't matter for them/don't think they care much as they don't control the clubs or anything they are just the governing body. 2nd division will depend on what the criteria FA set and if clubs can actually meet it. Supposedly going to be a winter competition as well so not competing with aleague

jw1739
@HughJass We're getting off topic I suppose, but what I suspect is, as I do with APL and the League, the business case for a National Second Division has not been properly thought through considering various worst-case scenarios. APL has a bit of an excuse with COVID of course. What I thought "management of the League by the clubs" would mean is that the clubs would collaborate and use their own resources as far as possible to do so, not the set-up of another bloated administrative set-up. Just looking at those senior positions within APL leads me to suspect that the proceeds of the sell-out of the GF to Destination NSW will be used up in salaries in a very short time. After the sale of the share to Silver Lake what is going to be sold next? The fact is that there is very little trickle down from big events and the national teams into the A-League and the rest of the clubs in the country. Football administration just doesn't seem to understand that we are a minor sport, and have only a limited market at a club level. If there was an international RL or RU match in Melbourne then I would possibly go along, especially if it was against England, but I have no interest in those two sports at any lower level, and I completely understand why the same applies to football for the great majority of our population. We just have to cut our coat to suit the cloth.

In continuation of our conversation about crypto pyramids, I would like to recommend an Irish site that lists casinos that accept cryptocurrency - https://sloteire.com/crypto-casinos - I sometimes play here, but not for money, for fun. There's a pretty good list of sites there, have a look. They also write that there will be a pause in the men's and women's A-League while the national teams play. Why then is the time for the Cup in Qatar excluded from this pause? It seems strange. Edited August 11, 2023 by CoolDom

For the EPL, for example, the matches that conflict with the Euros are rearranged to another date, and you get fixture gaps and then fixture congestion towards the end of the season. The EPL is pretty smart on this. They will also, if they receive a strong enough reason from the clubs concerned, postpone and rearrange matches where there are circumstances that might prevent fans from attending or even cause fans significant difficulties in attending. Such circumstances as transport strikes, and major road works, are examples.
