I would rather pay Mooy good money to keep performing and leave no room for any sort of questioning as to whether we as a club truly value him. Only three other clubs in MV, SFC and Wellington have had as stable off seasons as we have and none have strengthened there squads anywhere near as well as we have... some of the above with issues will defy the odds but anything but Top Four is unacceptable now. But it would be hard to see him being a marquee for one season and then brought inside the cap for another. However that would not be impossible, because I expect players such as Williams, Brown, Kisnorbo and Hughes to be released at the end of 2015/16 and that might allow Mooy to come back inside the cap again. We should always aim to win the Premier's Plate, every season, irrespective of anything else.I still think MV and Sydney are the teams to beat, but doesn't mean to say we should not set the Premiership as where we want to be. IMO it's the best outcome for both the club and the player (at least for the next 2 or 3 years. Then after that Mooy can move to a respectable European club and quite possibly be a regular starter).Excellent to see Mooy's keenness to remain at Melbourne City with the long term contract, and it's a real plus to see CFG breakout the checkbook to re-sign Mooy. The visitors across town didn't have the money to keep Milligan around, so it's a real statement that Melbourne City is willing to pay big money to keep one of our most important players, and other Australian footballers will take notice of the significant amount of pay Melbourne City can offer Australian players. Undoubtedly Melbourne City should finish better than top 4 next season. The way things and the team are shaping up I'd say some silverware or perhaps a finals appearance should be the expectations upon the club and club staff next season.
