Can they not see as a coach they can't continue to select him because he looks good on the ball sometimes. As a coach when they concede so many goals with him on they have to try replace him, even if that's muscat. both goals we've conceded so far second half are his fault. Reminds me of Sakho for LFC (well before the Klopp bust up). People pull their dicks over his occasional good runs but really, he's a very average defender. And that's what he's in the side as ffs! Maybe one for the future, but not ready now!
dr lime
Valkanis lost us this one. Muscat = ridiculous. And even taking off Cahill at half time: if you are going to pinch a goal with 10 men, most likely to be from set pieces so why not leave him on for 15-20 minutes? And playing Bruno as number 10 was just change for change's sake When he and Cahill have worked well it is usually Cahill roaming around in midfield and arriving late in the box with Fornaroi up top. Fucking Calamity Rose isn't up to it either although he at least avoided his usual calamity today, but gives us nothing. Just play a kid there. Only bright spot was seeing Sorensen back between the sticks, calmly stepping off his line grabbing high balls, reading the game well and being impeccably positioned. Although he must be the worst guesser at penalties ever. Have never even seen him get close to one.

Cahill should have come off the bench rather then starting. But having started Cahill, may as well leave him on for a few minutes in the second half. Don't agree about Caceres. If we aren't behind he spends 90% of the time looking a little bit flashy and "nearly" influencing games. But he is a front runner who becomes invisible when things get tough and only plays relatively well against the shit teams. Not someone who can run the game for you in midfield. Not hopeless but a bit player at best. We do not have a decent #10, which is part of our problem, but he isn't the answer there.

Goes missing 9 times out of 10 when needed against good opposition. Agree on Valkanis call, but not because of Cahill. belaguttman
We looked comfortable and well on top until the red card. We had good shape, good movement and good intensity. Can't complain about the red card. Third spot is gone now, we are a realistic chance to stay 5th and that's were we will be after this round. Positives: Started with good intensity and were up for it. Valkanis had his starting lineup and tactics right and Sydney struggled to penetrate and offered little. Fitzgerald was giving Zullo a football lesson. Fitzgerald was positive, has improved over the season and scored a well deserved great goal The Arnold chant - top chant of the season Negatives: The Muscat Show - cost us the game Our second half 'tactics', what were they? The Smrufs are very good at forcing a turnover from a midfield press and then quickly overloading the opposition defence, why on earth would we try to play through the press when we were a man down? The subs were good but the tactics were totally wrong. Crumbled when we conceded the second goal We lacked shape in defence in the second half and were easily penetrated. Our disciplinary record will cost us more suspensions at the business end of the season, something needs to be done to address this. We had a lesson from the Smurfs in how to play against 10 men and how to overload the opposition, we won't learn from it though.

neio
Guys they are top for a reason, they are a bloody good team. Hard enough to beat with 11 men. Almost no chance with 10 Apart from muscat I don't think anyone was particularly to blame tonight, their 2nd goal was a harsh handball but a top free kick. And their 3rd dunno if anyone has noticed but ninkovic has been pulling apart defences all season with balls like that into their front 3. While I'll never be happy with a loss there was enough in the first 40 minutes when we had equal numbers to say that we have turned a corner

What I don't get is why take Tim off and still play the ridiculous back passing possession game with a high line when we are at a numerical disadvantage when the smart money would have been to play a counter with brandan and Fitzy running the lines. I just don't know what Valkanis expects, I don't know what tactic he thought we could play with 10 men, and I don't know how he would think that moving the ball slowly and indirect could possibly give us opportunities and somehow not leave us vulnerable with a high press with one less player on the pitch. Valkanis has to go as the tactics are causing us make errors in critical areas with no chance to defend. Sydney were shitting themselves and Arnold didn't know what to do; we were well on top before the red, but then again with the tactics we use the over the top balls will always find us out doesn't matter who we play.

For fuck sake even the commentators are questioning why Muscat is playing there and can't think of any times he's played in that position. But who cares about that. Let's put in a guy that doesn't play in that position who hasn't been paired side by side with Malik before and then expect them to work well against the best team in the league. GreenSeater
I think what really got me was our final sub tonight. Fitzgerald was once again playing fantastic, and was easily our best player on the park, so with 15 minutes to go when chasing the game, why on earth would you take him off to be replaced with Kamau? If you are actually chasing the game, why make a like for like change? Why not take off Malik and switch to the holy back three with Brandan moving into the middle and Kamau and Fitzy on the wings? For a brief moment in that second half we looked threatening, and Valkanis should have rolled the dice and gone for it by adding to our attacking stocks and trying to just overrun them. I'd rather lost 5-1 chasing the game than lose 3-1 trying to do damage control tbh

Shame he wasn't grilled about that. I totally agree with you. But if you look at the 2nd yellow, I blame this on the tactics. That Fitzy back pass to him was not on and it was obvious Fitzy wasn't 100% sure on it but the constant back pass training drills was what ended up making the error in judgement. The error from Muscat was unfortunate but the ball should never have been there if the team had been instructed to go forward with haste and to go direct. Statistically at the A league level, most goals opportunities are conceded by passing errors in the defensive 3rd and this is an example of why. In saying that Muscat should not have started ahead of Tongyik.
AttilaUGultras
Hi everyone, I'm new both in the forum and as a supporter as well. I've been living in Melbourne for 4 years now and basically the first football match I watched here in Australia was Melbourne fc and since then the team got a special place in my heart. Now, I'm a wog, I'm from Italy and my team is Torino fc, but since I live here I decided to support the City team, and tonight I've been there at Aami park. It was a disaster. And I'm not talking about the game, yes it was shit as well, but I'm talking about us people. The guys may let us down but what I saw was just a bunch of bored kids standing there in silence. Why? Should we sing only when the team is winning? Are the guys playing like shit? We should let them know. Is the coach doing something wrong, we should scream it out.. And never lower our voice. It's ben 90 minutes of singing a little bit of Depeche mode , and some da da da, that's it. We should roar our feelings out, and it should be about sport and beyond, it should be social and about justice.. Don't get me wrong, I like how things are here in Aus, safe and everything, back to Europe you get stabbed for a football match and it's not really worth it. But no violence = no passion? Where's the pride? Where's the honour? The feeling of belonging? You can tell me to fuck off straight away, since I'm no one here, but I just would like to know what you guys think.. cheers and go City
