Talk about giving the people what they want. There was some demand for more information about the players Heart might recruit,  and in particular information straight from the CEO or Heart's management, and this article appears. I think it's a generously informative article, but at the same it isn't too specific (for example, there are no statements like 'we'll announce that we've signed Kewell for X dollars at 12 on Tuesday!').

I'd have to say that overall Heart do a pretty good job of keeping their supporters and the public informed, and that the Football Media Association of Australia knew what it was doing when it awarded Heart with their top award two years in a row. All A-League clubs could do a little better with communication, and the Australian media in general gives football and A-League clubs short shrift, but overall Heart's pretty good with communication.

"Hoffman, also 24, has been a regular fixture in Heart’s squad in its three campaigns and continues to be one of the Club’s most committed and outstanding professionals."

That's not entirely untrue. The guy covers ground like a fuckin gazelle and his fitness is up there with the best if not the best of the heart squad. Tells me he is very committed and professional about his physical conditioning. Just need to find where he will be best utilised on the pitch. This is the main problem with Hoffman, his greatest asset can't be utilised because as defensive midfielder he isn't strong enough and as an attacking midfielder he isn't creative enough. If we could put the ball at his feet in front of goal enough times he would be very good though. I think anyway. I saw the guy not miss the mini goals today time after time yet other players missed half the shots they attempted.

Great, now just teach him an ounce of footballing ability and we might have a star on the cards.

Tells me he is very committed and professional about his physical conditioning.

Should sign up ChestBrah for the Melbourne Heart Physically Conditioned Club.

No, he wouldn't.

Someone please send this footage to some rich Asian club.

Very good work by the club to sign Redmayne for three years! I reckon he's a top prospect, and that he can become the league's goalkeeper in that time.

Also, it's interesting that Hoffman, who seems to tweet about everything, hasn't been willing to talk about his contract. I reckon it's because he signed a 1 year deal on minimum wage. If so, then that would slightly make up for us re-signing Hoffman, especially if we use the money we saved re-signing him to sign up a top international player.

Perhaps marking the lines before the game? Or as a replacement for Ticker, as he currently runs around like he's munched on a bag of bath salts.

Sort of appropriate for this thread:

At the end of this article, it states that two former Melbourne Heart players are trialling with the Roar. I think it's safe to say that one is definitely Matt Thompson, I wonder who the other is...or other two if in fact Matt Thompson isn't. My guess for the other is Garcia...

My best guesses for the second Heart player (as Thompson is almost definitely one of the Heart players on trial) are:

Fred. I can see him trying to play for another A-League club, and given his good rapport with Heart players I can see him trialing alongside Thompson.

Wayne Srhoj. I reckon there's a good chance it's him. He's a Queenslander, who's apparently been playing in the Queensland State League. He's only 31. He even played for the previous Brisbane team, the Brisbane strikers.

Sarkies?

Garcia would likely be a very expensive player for Brisbane. And Heart should understand that it would be real bad for Heart if Garcia went to another A-League club, especially if he signed for not too much money. I also agree with Natalie, that Garcia would probably find a trial with an A-League club to be beneath him. Given how seemingly tough Garcia has negotiated with Heart, I can't imagine him wanting to bother trialing with other A-League clubs.

Basic notes from SM on SEN just now...

The club did a review end of season and it was recognised that changes were needed.

Happy with young player development, but still need to improve.

HK arrival will be low key ...arives early next week ...1st training session Wed at AAMI with media in attendance

There are 2 more major signings for to club to make ... these signings will be the icing on the cake.

Next season club needs to perform and make finals.

Talked about WSW ... success due to region yearning for a club and WSW success on the pitch.

callers questions....

will there be 3 game memberships?

yes, 3 or 5 game to be launched around x-mas time

marquee needed like ADP?

HK not marquee ... open to marquee ... needs to work on and off pitch, ADP 2- 3 million, Karagounis 1 - 2 million

sydney still lost millions (with ADP)...

Membership target this year?

7.5K target this year

Why are our Training facilities/ junior development so poor (some VPL clubs have better)?

FFE approved team in lower division only to be rescinded ... someting they still want to do but cant be done through FFA

RG? - in Perth at the moment, want to sign him. Competitive offer put forward. Club is confident and offer is sound.

Sick of Excuses. 9 Ex Victory players in our history. No Youth development

Queried who the 9 players were? More young players signed overseas than any other Aleague club. Current squad player in junior WC (DV). Some of the negative comments are due to the club not winning. We want to win and do not accept failure.

Why not higher than 7.5K with membeships?

We have internal aspiration (higher). 7.5K is minimum must achive. Looking to get 9 - 10K

JA's development?

Spent time overseas Holland JVS, England.  Last year was a massive high pressure learning curve. Refreshed. Support Staff will be added around him. Board wants to invest more in football department. More players, better player wages, more staff

I was pretty. Disappointed to hear his comments regarding a marquee. It sounds like we had some irons in the fire but none of them panned out.

The 'icing on the cake' phrasing makes me think we'll be taking a gamble on some foreigners, without expecting them to be starters.

Didn't do much to install any confidence going forward.

Fred is back in Brazil, and Sarkies only got a game in Port Melbourne's seconds on the weekend.

Torn Asunder's list was much better than the one I was writing lol

No big new developments, but we got a good amount of details from Munn.

I like that Heart has decided to make 2 big/important signings, and is not merely concerned with making a single marquee or quasi-marquee signing.

Good to hear that Aloisi met with former coaches and clubs of his in England. Seems to be doing good preparation leading into next season.

Real good to hear that Heart is 'confident' about Garcia.

This interview did somewhat play down the possibility of Heart getting a marquee, but what Munn said is consistent with previous statements: that a marquee would have to work for the club 'on and off the pitch'.

As long as our final signings are quality I'm not too fussed. It looks like Heart's final 2 VISA players should be pretty good, that is, equal or better than Wielaert (I'm estimating). Our squad needs to be balanced too, so spreading the quality would achieve that.

I'm still keen to find out what positions our next signings will fill. Also, the club did let on that our signings would pretty much be complete by next week, so I'd like hear an announcement or two soon. Things are coming along rather well IMO. I'd just like to see the final players come into the squad.

I was listening too and I think his answer was one typical of a CEO trying not to raise expectations and then for the club not to find anything. I think behind the scenes is very different and there is pretty clear evidence for that with the offer made for Holt.

I can understand Munn trying not to raise expectations and publicly stating unrealistic targets (like the membership) because of the hysterical reactions you would get, like on here.

What I picked up from all this is I wouldn't be too confident on RG it sounded like it was only a year offer as his words were "we would like RG around for another year" I wouldn't be too confident if his back in Perth looking at his options even though a "competitive offer was made".

Marquee statement his words were "we have had players thrown at us and they are expensive, the numbers have to stack up both on and off the field" you pay for what you get!!! You pay for quality and it will pay itself off through new sponsors along with new members and supporters. Sydney paid 2-3mil for ADP and they've got that back before he landed through sponsors along with the additional new members and faces.

Talked about WSW ... success due to region yearning for a club and WSW success on the pitch.

You put together a squad that's capable of winning and the people will come!!

In saying that the only way Heart will raise its profile is to go out and make a statement and sign someone capable of drawing a big crowd!!
