Best performer on the field was Kate Jacewicz.5 points

This is one of the most fascinating debates I see on the forum Delbo seems to be either you think he is fantastic or is average and a liability. There seems to be no in the middle for people. I think he is fantastic and one of the better aussie CB in the league where some people would release him at end of season when his contract runs out The combo of Delbridge and Good is solid enough but if this new guy comes in and is a star, I'd prefer to see him partner Delbridge but that's just me3 points
-
Judging by his movement he's about 50% fit at this stage. If he had 15-20 minutes he would have gassed about 10 minutes in and potentially injured himself. Interestingly overseas players usually comment how players just run run run here often without thinking. Markel already showed an brief example of how a player knows when to run and when not to run. Compared to our players who look like dogs chasing their own tails sometimes.3 points

Ref was really good compared to the rubbish the league has been dealing with. Hopefully she keeps this going over time and doesn't become like the other donkeys. I still haven't changed my mind about having fifa official refs3 points

We must have watched different games. I thought Atkinson was quite solid and completely shut Petratos out of the game3 points

We do play some nice football, it's so good to watch especially compared to Joyceball.3 points

Looking forward to seeing him replace Wales after he misses three sitters and sends 5 crosses out for a goal kick.3 points

Am I the only one who saw all Delbridge’s mistakes? up till his goal line clearance he’d had a Barry Crocker.2 points

Sorry it was a dreadful and concerning win.2 points

Thank fuck for Delbridge, otherwise we lose this game. Bouzanis was tidy too all things considered, credit where credit's due. Wales was absolutely dreadful, it was almost symbolic when he came off for Susaeta because it's going to be him that'll directly replace Wales and actually have an end product from now on you'd hope. Overall, we should have done way more against the bottom side at home but a clean sheet is good (defending was honestly great across the park for the first hour but then petered out) but so sloppy in attack. Great debut tbh2 points

Never got out of 2nd gear. Bouzanis had a solid game to his credit. Hopefully Markel will take Wales' place sooner rather than later2 points

He has played for Scotland. Doubt that he's a bunny. And Celtic fans don't like anyone much, do they?2 points

Because that's when the out-of-favour players in Europe and the UK, and other places, are looking for a loan deal somewhere. Won't happen if we move to a winter season of course. But interesting to speculate whether in fact our major effort in recruiting visa players should focus on January rather than our off-season. Give them a loan deal for the rest of our season and then if they do well go after them for a longer-term contract for following season(s). IMO this would produce better longer-term results than what we do now.2 points

I feel like Delbridge's problem is that he plays in a position where some people would prefer a player who just gives you a solid 6-7 out of 10 performance every week, rather than a player who is one of your best performers 80% of the time, but can cost you a couple of games each year with catastrophic brainfarts. Something I would like to bring up though: this crap about a controversial penalty. Bloody hell, if that's controversial then you may as well call Delbridge and Bouzanis's penalties controversial a couple of weeks ago. Unlucky, sure. Huge credit to Topor-Stanley, he summed it up brilliantly immediately after the game, basically "I can see why you give it, I would have been screaming for it at the other end, but I dunno what else I'm supposed to do." Perfectly put.1 point

All the errors he's making are going unnoticed while Andy Harper repeatedly froffs over him as Socceroo material. In comparison to last season he's been extremely disappointing. There's no doubt he's a great athlete for his size but his general play has been clumsy and Good should be the one getting the plaudits.1 point

Why wasn't he given 15 to 20 minutes? One opportunity to show something and he laid it on a plate for JMac, who should have had a second. I would probably play him behind Jmac to begin with in the next game. We need someone who can create in the midfield.1 point

I thought our defence was better. We lacked a solid mid-field and the tempo lifted once Berenguer was replaced by Griffith. Once Susaeta came on it was definitely at another level (BTW isn't he a pasty colour). And to give due credit, I did not think that Newcastle were a rubble - they lack someone up front and tidier back line. In essence teh first goal was against run of play, the second one was a penalty however if JMac had nailed that header then that would have been a great open play goal.1 point

Played only a few minutes and barely had any time to do anything, but that ball to JMac was an absolute peach and should have easily been a goal. Off to a solid start1 point

Susaeta cross was peach for JMAC. Hopefully gets up to speed quick so Wales can go to the bench.1 point

I was pretty happy with the game tbh. Not overly exciting to watch, but we did what we needed to do to comfortably beat a shit team. Would have been nice to bury them but 3 points and a clean sheet are both very nice. Keen for next weekend.1 point

Gave it to Luna. His work rate was absolutely incredible all game both in attack and defence. Could have just as easily gone with Atkinson or Delbridge1 point

I liked how he tracked back and won the ball on several occasions.1 point

Thought Luna had a good game, was much better on and off the ball than he has been in the past (just missed the killer instinct but everyone was tonight)1 point

Solid win. Good team performance. First clean sheet for forever. Happy Days1 point

Thought overall it was a pretty flat game, but it's a clean sheet and a grinding win which isn't something we do Take the 3 points and move onto next week1 point

Great goal from Noone! See what happens if we keep the ball low around the box. How often did Noone go around his defender? Zero, mix it up please - too many cut ins. We are still rushing it long and high way too often. Play at your strength.1 point

And all their wingers. And all their strikers. And most of their midfielders. And most of their defenders. But other than that they're not too bad.1 point

True. I’m happy to see how he goes in a loan stint first. Picking up a decent foreign player willing to come here for four months is tricky. But don’t get annoyed if he’s not very good! I know you like skilled defenders so he might disappoint.1 point

Loved the interview with JMac lads. Quality. The deep dive article was great too. Congratulations1 point

It is all very amusing to watch this unfold. I wonder if the Visitors hierarchy are surprised that removing Kurz didn't instantly make Kamsoba and Athiu competent A-League level players. I also wonder when the heat will come on Paul Trimboli for signing so many below standard players to multi year deals.1 point

Please don't get me started @jw1739 or the brainwashed hyperbolic masses will pollute this thread again. Match day is here and I just want to enjoy the FOOTBALL. Come on city. Let's destroy these chumps.1 point

Very interesting, this kind of mirrors the Aaron Hughes scenario but this time we are actually going to make a change. Both players if fit would have been amazing but bringing in older CBS is a complete lottery. If this transpires then it clearly shows CFG are doing everything possible to remain in the discussion for a possible challenge come finals time. Furthermore to that it also puts a kybosh to the lazy narrative that they don't care, just using Melbourne as farm/ PR vehicle and other similar lines those that dislike us churn out regularly. Very interesting. 🤔🤔🤔1 point

What a waste of a signing windy has been. Thoroughly dissapointed as if he was healthy I think he would've really helped the team.1 point

Probably an unpopular opinion that I have but I'm personally sick of various appeals. Yes, the money goes into much needed relief, but if nothing is really done to mitigate the cause of these emergencies, then we just repeat the pattern again and again, and it's just a bottomless pit into which we pour money. Also I'm very wary of where the donations actually go, how much actually reaches the people in need and how much is squandered in administration.1 point

Now am I the only one wondering about why they signed Rojas? Isn’t he a winger? Easily the best thing about their current squad is their front 3, including a couple of A League standout wingers in Nabboutt and Kruse. Why sign another winger on big dollars? What about the engine room of midfield? Are they mad or have I missed something?1 point
