Andrew Edmonds
Feel sorry for Bart, only player that seems to give it all on the pitch. Was sad to see him drop to the ground in tears after the game, but then he still went to the fans after the match for photos. Quality individual. Seriously reckon this guy is the best player in the league. He's strong, quick, skilful and reads the play so well. He also never gives up and plays to the very end. Just an absolute gun.
n i k o
For this league he is a certain winner, capable of taking a team to a championship winning season. For that reason it's shits me to no end for not only our sake but also his that we are performing and getting results like the last 4 games. HEARTinator
Thanks Bart and all. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/schenkenveld-barnes-and-cavallo-take-out-major-city-awards-20180416-p4z9w6.html Schenkenveld, Barnes and Cavallo take out major City awards Dutchman Bart Schenkenveld has taken the honours as Melbourne City's player of the season in a campaign where the Bundoora based club has finished third on the A-League table, its highest ever spot on the ladder. American defender Lauren Barnes has takent he equivalent accolade for City's championship winning W-League team, the first side to ever win three W-League titles in a row. And youngster Josh Cavallo, a teenage central midfielder, has won the prize as the club's Youth League player of the year. City's youngsters finished runners up after losing to West Sydney in the Y-League Grand Final. Exciting winger Daniel Arzani, whom many are touting as a potential World Cup bolter, has been named as City Suporters Player of the year while his contemporary, full back Nathaniel Atkinson, is the club's Rising Star. Midfield stalwart Luke Brattan is the Clubman of the Year, while now departed Scots frontman Ross McCormack took out the Golden Boot award after netting 14 goals in 14 games before his loan deal with Aston Villa expired. Jesh Fishlock, the inspirational captain of the W-League team, was City's top scorer in the womens competition. Schenkeveld, aged 26, played in 25 of City’s 27 regular season matches in his first year with the club having joined from Dutch Eredivise club PEC Zwolle (now coached by ex City boss John van't Schip) in August last year. He was a key part of a much improved City defence this season, finishing the campaign with with the most interceptions (52) and as the most accurate passer (90.8 per cent accuracy). He also came out ahead of his teammates in both duels and aerial duels won as City secured nine clean sheets – the most in one season in the club’s history. City Head Coach Warren Joyce said: “Bart is a strong and passionate player for us who has adjusted well to the A-League, but most importantly has provided a key link between defence and midfield. ''He’s played a pivotal role in breaking down the opposition and moves the ball forward quickly. We wanted to build the team’s foundations around a strong defensive set up and Bart has helped to drive the team from the back.” In the championship winning W-League squad Barnes stood out for consistency and the high quality of her output. She led the W-League in total passes and was one of the competition’s most influential players. The California born defender, who had a season in the W-League with Melbourne Victory earlier in her career, is currently playing for Seattle Reign FC in the USNWL. She has been with City since 2016 and was part of a rearguard which kept a league high seven clean sheets Barnes contributed two goal assists when she got forward, and received one of the best accolades a player can get when she was selected by the players for the PFA W-League Team of the Year. Her coach Patrick Kisnorbo paid a warm tribute to her contribution. ''Lauren has been exceptional for us in an outstanding team. She is one of the most hard-working and dedicated athletes, plays with her heart on her sleeve and set out to achieve wonderful things with this team. ''She has been a positive and inspirational role model for our younger players who led by example throughout the season.”

jw1739
1 hour ago, Afif Adam said: What do you boys think Should be perfectly possible. Bruno will be out of contract - that's if he doesn't go in January - and De Laet is on a one-season loan to us, so we will have two marquee places available for next season. Schenkeveld definitely deserves one. IMO the other ought to be a top striker somewhere out of the CFG stable. Over to you Michael Petrillo. Earn your keep.

mus-28
This is where Sydney did so well over the last few season with squad management, they had a core group of 16/17 players who took a majority of the cap and filled up with the squad with guys on minumum wage. Instead we have Caceres, LaRocca, Malik and co eating up a reasonable wage and not involved, with our Youth team being amongst the best surely we'd be better served having 3 more as full timers on minumum wage and using the money we save to bolster the best eleven. Quality over Quantity.

Imtellingyou
Bart, you need a new job(club) to get payraise. It has already gone to media. Club may want to develop and sell CB. Status upgrade has backfired in Bruno's case, from the club perspective.
