Well I heard a player was doing his fitness test at City recently, and we know from one of those articles that Nabbout was also training at City prior to the Asian Cup, so who knows. I hope so in anycase.

Schweinsteiger is the only other one I know is in Melbourne, but I struggle to see where he would fit into our team.

The German is old, slow, overpaid and not an attacking player. He's here for the tennis with his missus. I'd love Nabbout.Ā

Mcgree was initially signed as a CAM, with the declination of Bruno...he seems to fill the winger position as wales is pushed to the striker role ...so Iā€™d like a winger for sure (especially after the departure of MOH)

Wales will go back to the wing when we actually have a striker...Ā

If we do sign Keogh and an other forward which 2 of our players getĀ benched to play them

Joyce favoursĀ  4 attacking players and on this run we have played with an attacking 4 of

..................Wales

McGree, Brattan, Vidosic

And with the signing of another 2 attacking players does that mean we will see very little of another visa Berenguer

Brattan could slip back to DM

Galekovic

De Laet Bart Delbridge Jamieson

Wales Bratten Baccus McGree

Keogh Maclaren

That's a seriously strong team and although it will be sad to see Bruno go, turning MOH and Bruno into Keogh and Maclaren would be great considering the former twoĀ weren't playing.Ā

That's the formation I would play as it is the only way to fitĀ 2 strikers intoĀ the team. On past experience I can not see Joyce playing 2 up front too attack minded.Ā Ā I hope I am wrong otherwise why sign 2 strikers. Unless he plays 1 out or position or warms the bench.Ā

Would play Vidosic instead of Wales. Also still got Berenguer to come back from injury as well.

It's a nice problem isn't it. I agree, I can't see Joyce changing the back 4 and the 2 deeper midfielders in Baccus and Griffiths/Malik as our defence has been the rock this season.

So how do you play the attacking 4? Brattan's great form as the #10 has given him a nice selection headache as I think he could've been the one to make way previously.

Wales has been admirable so far carrying the forward line abd the results back this, but surely he must either drop to the bench or play wide now. That would help if we only get one true striker, but two?

So we need to fit Vidosic, McGree, Berenguer, Brattan, Wales, Atkinson???, Najjarine, new striker 1 and new striker 2 /winger into 4 positions.

It's a great problem to have :)

If true, and the sources seem legit then this further proves the point I have tried to make all along - CFG are not just seeing us a feeder club for players and really do want to win this league - they just dont know how/have relied on poor advice on the ground level at our club.

Fact is, the 'scouting network' can not get their head around the a-league and have been poor for us (generally). Forget the expectation of them finding a gem from somewhere.Ā

Thus, I am much happier at going for proven a-league talent - significantly lowers the risk on the player and this season is shaping up as a very winnable one. Not many good clubs at all and a fairly run of the mill glory now looks like running away with it. Victory just have lost all creativity with one injury.

I would envision the plan is something like this...

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Galekovic
RDLĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā DelboĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  BortĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Jamo
Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā BrattanĀ  Ā Baccus

McGreeĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Wales
Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā MaclarenĀ  Ā  Ā Keogh

Ā

which can easily switch to our standard 433 by dragging one of them to a wing and dragging probably Wales for Malik. Plenty of flexibility by that set up, and we have the engines in McGree, Wales, RDL and Jamo to get up and down. I think it works even better if its Nabbout rather than Maclaren tbh.

Not sure i agree with the bolded statement entirely. I reckon 'most' of our visa signings have been decent under CFG, it's been our marquees that have been unmitigated disasters. The 200k signings have been pretty good but It seems we have struggled with unearthing the players thats the next step up with a few extra 100 thousand.

But more generally speaking i agree, i dont buy into the 'CFG are only here to make money by selling' argument. IMO their primary goal is to win it and be a presence in Asia to further their brand, but they want to do it with a club that is largely self sufficient, not one that suckles on the teat of big daddy the whole time. Making money of the youth is one way of funding the future success sure, but imo a large part of that strategy is also to entice people to become City fans and see Aus' next big thing win local titles before they go to Europe too.

MyĀ guess is that the Keogh deal is off, or at least delayed. Another marquee this season can only happen if Bruno agrees to leave before 31st May - he may yet decide to "do a Winston Bogarde" and sit tight. My guess is that we will get a replacement for O'Halloran, and that our new marquee will be for next season rather than this one.

I can't see why Perth would want to change their squad at this juncture.
