I thought you said  a coach that had had success ?

Haha Francis said that he'd heard from the horse's mouth that a current A League coach that has had success and is in contention is currently testing the marketplace for job's outside of Australia. The emphasis with which he put on 'successful', indicating it could only be Popa, Muscunt or Arnie.

I think the recent transfers have shown what  the intention and expectations are for this club, and despite the better recent results, I don't think I've ever felt more confident that JVS' time is nearly up. I think if we don't win either the league or the finals, he is gone, and rightfully so. I'm also pretty confident that we will not win either piece of silverware, even though we should, because the same old problems are still there, they're just masked by the fact we have better players.

Is Gombau the right man for the job though?

Well, he plays football exactly how CFG want their sides to play. Possession, attacking, high line and pressing to get the ball back. With our squad, anything will be possible unless we lose more than just Mooy.

I would be highly surprised if it wasn't Popavic.

No.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised by the fixation with him.

Played a great style which started clicking toward the end of his last season. If he had our resorces I have no doubt he will deliver us silverware. JVS sure wont.

Incidentally I can find nothing via google about Gombau's academy.  Now if he was starting one, surely he'd have a website to promote it?

Yes I have been searching for quite a while to find where exactly is Gombau. Had a quick look at some websites but none list their staff other than their director. the NYCFC youth academy does not even mention who the director is.

All I can find is this:

"Meanwhile, former Reds coach Josep Gombau has, according to sources, contacted ex United player Nathan Konstandopoulos asking the 19-year-old to be part of his academy in New York."

That just adds to the strangeness. 19 year olds should be playing competitive games, not being in academies.

There's a tie-up between David Villa's  "DV7 Soccer Academy" and Bayamon F.C. in Puerto Rico.

A nice big picture of Gombau here:

http://futbolboricua.co/tag/dv7-soccer-academy/

http://futbolboricua.co/comienza-el-nuevo-ciclo-del-bayamon-fc-bajo-josep-gombau/

Via Google Translate:

in a press conference where this was the Guaje David Villa, he was presented to the Spanish Josep Gombau as the new director of the Academy of Bayamon FC. This was part of the agreement signed by DV7 Soccer Academy, Villa, and Bayamon FC; agreement has raised red flags for offenses to the code of ethics of FIFA.

"I'm happy with this partnership with David Villa Sánchez, allowing us that our players have a better education and better training our coaches' quotes the official website Facebook Bayamon FC Alberto Santiago, president of Bayamon club during the Press conference.

Meanwhile, Villa said: "One of the goals is to be a time where a lot of guys have to move to professional football."

Josep Gombau came to Puerto Rico and last night started work as the new Director of the Academy of Bayamon FC. In turn, it is also the director of the DV7 Soccer Academy. This is the first academy established corporation with offices in New York, and incorporated last July in the state of Delaware. Gombau replaced the former captain of the national team, Marco Velez, director of the Academy and first team coach Bayamon FC.

Gombau was heading to Adelaide United in the A - League, Australian professional league until July 24 where he gave up his contract, which detracted two years, to move to New York to work with academia, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. Originally the coach with the New York City FC, and academy system is linked, however, immediately he denied this club in the nuyorquina press.

He was also in charge of the FCB Escola FC Barcelona in the Arab emirate of Dubai between 2003-2009.

According NYSportsHub.com, the City Football Group, part owners of the NY City FC and Manchester City FC owners, following in the footsteps lead Gombau time.

Among his palm are 2 championships of the Hong Kong First Division League between 2010-2012 two titles in the FA Cup Hong Kong, 2010-2013, the Hong Kong League Cup in 2011-2012, and the FFA Cup in Australia with Adelaide United last 2014.

According to the information handled FBNET, Gombau and his colleagues have their work visa, managed from New York, for DV7 Soccer Academy and not the Bayamon FC.

Since last night reached FBNET unconfirmed reports that Josep Gombau is the favorite to re-summon Carlos Avedissian on the bench of the National Team of Puerto Rico. According to reports, since November has been a lack of effective communication between the Executive Committee of the Puerto Rican Football Federation (FPF) and the national coach, particularly among members of the Commission of National Teams and the management team. This, according to unconfirmed reports, in order to force Avedissian to resign to replace it with Gombau.

I think we will win something this year TBH. But in true JVS fashion it will be in the most unconvincing way, so he will do just enough to keep his job but doesnt have to go to above and beyond in the slightest

Thanks for that JW. So he now lives in Puerto Rico, in a municipality of the capital of San Juan. The DV7 stands for David Villa 7 sports academies and is incorporated inside the Bayamon Futball Club. Gombau is the technical director. The distance between Spain and Puerto Rico is about the same between Sydney and Perth and return flights are about $720US. Definitely closer to Spain as Gombau had claimed that he wanted to be closer to his family.

Little bit off. Spain and Puerto Rico are 3,900 miles apart. For Sydney and Perth it's 2,000. You're looking at maybe a 8-10 hour flight across the Atlantic for the former.

Still closer than Australia, though. I will grant you that.

What are these 'miles' that you speak of?

How often has Heart/City under JVS won games where both teams were high on the ladder and coming into the game in good form? If City wins tonight that will be one of the very few times. I wouldn't be getting confident of anything yet.

I am not that confident but i think cfg have told him he needs to win some silverware (the ffa cup obviously didn't count) or he loses his job.  We all know that as soon as his job is under question we suddenly start winning (like we are currently) and once its safe we go back to the same old. Thats why i think we will get something.

Go to perhaps the toughest away ground to play at, score three goals and still get done? It's been clear for the whole season that it is our defence that is the issue, plus our failed foreign marquee. Hughes is a complete flop - the guy has pretensions of playing in the Euros but can't get on the field for us - complete waste of a visa place IMO. I would guess that Paddy is out for up to six weeks, and an achilles possibly signals the end of his career. We have relied far too much on ageing players. With ten matches to play we're not out of contention for anything, but I would say tonight will have firmed up CFG's view that JvS is not the coach who can take us to silverware and Asia.

Showed tonight he's not the man to get the job done, still absolutely baffled as to why he didn't change anything at half time when it was clear the formation was just not working. Will be very disappointed if he is here next season, but given CFG are likely to be demanding a trophy this year I'm reasonably confident we won't have to worry about that.

They're a new invention. Very edgy and fashionable. Guess they haven't made it over to that side of the world yet. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll come in with the next convict ship.

Going back to the matter at hand, I didn't get to see the game for obvious reasons but it sounds like another terrible display outside of our three main attackers. I have to agree though that I think JVS will see out the year and be let go of in the summer. Can't see CFG sacking him now while he's in the top four. The season isn't quite enough of a disappointment for it to be worth the bad press which would inevitably follow an early dismissal (at least, as far as the board are concerned).

Definitely outcoached. Yes there were other factors but a fundamental one was that JVS was outcoached. The immediate task for the club is to find two more players for the defense - we have one visa spot left plus the guest. The guest spot will be hard given the FFA restrictions but the other visa player could be marquee or maybe not. We need a Fornaroli equivalent at the back. Of course CFG could bite the bullet and turf JVS out now and solve the fundamental issue immediately.

I don't think it has anything to do with being outcoached. He set up with a back 3 and the wanderers were able to get behind them too easily. It wasn't hard to see what the problem was after 10-15mins, yet no change was made. And to be honest it was such a glaring issue, i can't even comprehend why nothing was done. I can only assume he is so hell bent on playing an offensive game that he is just too stubborn, because no-one could be that moronic to not see what was happening.

Key words. And it's been obvious in every match I've seen this season. If we can see it, surely CFG heavies can too? And if they can, why don't they pick up the phone and tell van 't Schip to fix it?
