Melbourne City well beaten by Western United Today.

Final Score WU 2 to MC Nil.

Leckie, Tilio and Nabbout didnt play.

Apparently weren't fit !

Not sure how far away they are?

With Caputo and Lopane out for a prolonged period could be the weakest attack we have ever had on the opening round of the A League.

Absolutely no excuse for the first 3 not to be fit enough!! We are going to get destroyed by victory in round 1...

That continues our pre-season tradition against WU.

We've played 2 A-League teams for our pre-season preparation to date; there's at least one other to come. We've lost them both:

The first, a Cup game against Perth, saw us lose control of the game from a winning dominant position and then concede a succession of goals until we lost 4-5

The second, against WU, we lost in the usual fashion; dominate possession; unable to break down the opponent, concede on a counter-attack.

Yes, it's pre-season, young players and all that, but the manner of the losses shows no progression from last season: the same frailties, conceding in the same manner.

It'll be a long season.

City with 3 to 1 win over Auckland FC.

Game in Melbourne but obviously not open to the public.

Nabbout and Tilio played.

Scorers Nabbout, Talbot and Memeti.

Has our marquee Leckie made some minutes yet?

Well the only way it exists is because it is subsidized by the men's comp.

With the less successful men's comp then the woman's comp needs to go.

It's had enough time to stand on its own 2 feet and if it can't then that's business.

I think a stronger youth comp being showcased on match day would be better and more viable anyway.

By this logic the Aleague should fold too.

We are going to do much better this season than people think.  If leckie is healthy we will finish top 4

To my knowledge Leckie has not played in any of the friendlies, seems to be injured most the preseason.

Didn't he play most of the season with an injury, that's what you get when you continue to play players with injuries, they end up being worse long term ones. It seems to have been a thing under Rado, multiple players playing injured.

In its current form you are probably right.

My point is that the w league has been supported by the men's during their development, as they should have been, but now it is time they stand on their own two feet.

If they can't then the players and or admin should be paid less to put the w-league into the black.

As I alluded to in the prior post, men's youth development should be prioritised across the nation.
