IMO we're looking at the departure of Didulica and the rise of Petrillo. The only other explanation I can think of is that a few of the young guys at the club may have ruffled a few feathers and have been shown the door as a consequence.
I'm not surprised at the departure of Melling, because we are overloaded with midfielders, but I am surprised by that of Jack Clisby; OK not the greatest player in the world but always gave it 110% and is as tough as nails. I can only think that we have some other signing(s) lined up.

If you think feathers ruffled do you think a bit of stuff went down when Mauk was Asked/Told/Forced to go to Adelaide? Seeing as though they are all mates.

In all honesty the guy isn't very intelligent. He probably has no idea what that statement implies

Sorry mate that's just wrong.

Out of all the players me and my kids have spoken to Melling is the most open and genuine. He is genuinely a good bloke and switched on. How he has been quoted isn't because of lack of intelligence.

Look. Some are reading way to much into these press releases. Of course the Wanderers release will say things like that. Every club does it, they have their key things they like to say to keep their supporters happy. Our releases always say we are an ambitious club and our facilities are the best in the league.

In fact I bet Melling or any other player doesn't actually say any of the quotes in press releases, and it's a back room PR person writing the quotes.

The only one I've read recently that doesn't follow the "standard format" is that of Josh Rose saying goodbye to Central Coast.

Not sensitive, just curious by this particular line... "For me it was time to move to a club that always aspires to be the best"

Maybe he just didn't word it how he intended.

Thats just transfer talk when going to a new club yeah. Just think of the stuff that was said when said Tim Cahill joined other clubs, get the fans gushing straight away and you could probably get yourself 5 games of playing like a busted arse before the fans start to revolt, that way you get plenty of time to find your spot in the team. I could be thinking to much about this now though 🤔

Personally, I think people on here are giving Melling a pass because they liked his fire in the belly. It's pretty clearly an unnecessary potshot of Melbourne City on the way out, as far as I'm concerned and I'm not really fussed, but he didn't have to say anything about it being "...time to move to a club that aspires to be the best". He could have talked about the opportunity to play in front of packed houses for every home game and that would have been fine. If Redmayne, or Williams, or Dugandzic, or Hoffman made similar comments on the way out, they'd get ripped to shreds about it on here.

I think Clisby is a bigger loss, with the shape of the squad right now. I'm not saying he's a better player, but he'd be in contention for a starting spot with the current squad, whereas Melling would have been an afterthought. I liked Clisby's attitude and I thought he was a good soldier for us. I remember, I think it was Berisha in the AAMI Park derby last year tried to take out Mooy or Fornaroli and within about a minute, Clisby had squared it up, getting his money's worth out of a yellow card on Berisha. He was no superstar, but I think he performed better than expected in most of the games that he played in and he had a bit of mongrel about him that has been a bit lacking at this club overall, especially in the Heart years.

clisby will shine under a decent coach.  popa will turn him into a solid left back.  kids got pace, strength, can defend and can cross well. all he needs is to be coached into a better defender in a team where he doesnt spend half the game covering other peoples arses or being played out of position - in central defence.

i cant believe we are throwing away clisby and getting muscat. wtf. also josh rose is quality but he's now 34 or 35. we are going to have the oldest 11 in the league.

the talented youth we have lost because JVS cant fkn manage a team is obscene.  you could have 4 or 5 guys like mauk, garrucio, melling, clisby in the 11 and win the league if they were managed well and you recruited well around them.

A team with those 5 in the starring 11 wouldn't finish close to the top half of the table.

I'm guessing that we're bringing in a marquee visa centre-back and a visa left-back under the cap.

That'll be 22 players and IMO we'll leave it at that.

What I'd like to see us working on is some way of getting Tando back in the fold so he's ready for us for next season.

We had played a bunch of games with them in our team last season and were upper table

Yeah perhaps these guys are the reason we won all those games this season OR perhaps it was the 3 guys who scored more goals than half the teams in the league...... We carried some players this season and with the exception of Mauk the guys listed were the guys carried. I doubt to many games were played where they all played together. But I can tell you what a season of guys like that in our best 11 looks like, just check the first 5 years as Melbourne Heart or perhaps you have forgotten.

But the fact that Fornaroli and Mooy carried us last season takes nothing away from those who played their part

Would take in a heartbeat. A no bullshit defender from what i see. Thats under Popa anyway.

I wouldn't. He is almost as much as a journeyman as Reddy and he has only been successful under Popa at WSW. No matter how good he is there I am 100% convinced that JVS would return him to his much earlier form.

a quick google says that the UCL experience is a restaurant/shop/entertainment venue in abu dhabi. http://uclexperience.com

so he's either under offer from al jazira, at the sheikh's house to complete a signing to new york, getting some specialist treatment, or been given a free trip because he's on an extended break due to injury.

Seeing as he's in AD I'd say it is one the latter two

Can't see "specialist treatment" being any better in Abu Dhabi than it would be in Melbourne TBH. Especially with the average daily high at this time of year being about 43 degrees C - knocks the stuffing out of you.

Something's not right here.

Why doesn't the club issue something regarding Franjic's absence? He's been missing all pre-season and if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have a clue why. It's pretty disrespectful that they can't be bothered keeping members who pay to support the club informed and we have to play detective from a players instagram.
