Murfy1
Look no-one has actually seen the guy play, even people at the club.  I would like us no to pin such high hopes on him.  FourFourTwo Australia saw Engelaar in that short period after he landed in Melbourne and before he played in the Bribane match. They said of Engelaar in their October 2013 Magazine:  Melbourne Heart unveiled new marquee Orlando Engelaar but in a disastrous turn of events, the former Dutch international fractured his leg in his first run-out wit the red and whites against Brisbane. We hope Orlando can make a speedy recovery as from what we saw at Heart training, he is the real deal.  I also recall FourFourTwo saying in one of their podcasts something like 'he bossed midfield' when they saw him at training.   But you're right, we can't be sure what Engelaar will be like, especially after the injury. But personally, I'm not going to be sceptical, and I believe he can make a real impact when he's fit and playing. Tommykins
One the bonus reason for Engelaar's is because he should allow Mass to go forward any harass further up the park where he's most effective.

Murfy1
This is what's been said about Engelaar lately:  JVS Friday: hopefully Orlando Engelaar can be ready very soon [..] he can be very important [...] his progam is good, he's working hard, he's on the pitch already so maybe he can play, if everything goes well, maybe play a part next week in the youth team  JVS Sunday: Orlando Engelaar is coming back from injury and hopefully he can be involved in the [senior?] team in one or two weeks so that will make us as a team stronger and we have to take it from there.  Kewell on Twitter this morning: Good training session this morning... great to see #Orlando and #Germano back on the field and looking sharp...  Scott Munn's response today when asked if Engelaar will play in the Youth team: maybe this week.  Will be confirmed later in week Edited January 7, 2014 by Murfy1

Murfy1
Likewise, can't wait to see how he plays. Â JVS said this today about Engelaar: Â Orlando is scheduled to play a part of the game [on Sunday], and if that goes well then maybe he can be involved in the next game with the first team. It depends, of course, how he plays and what happens after that, how he recovers, but he's looking good, he's trained very hard and very well and good so hopefully he can have a good week next week

Dylan
He didn't really do much. But looked great with what he did do. It was a period in the game where we were dominant and he largely stayed around in the centre or just infront of defence as that anchor. When he came off he looked fine and not tired at all. All of his long balls were sublime, no wonder JA wanted him. Few times he had to turn sharply to get out of trouble and didn't see him wince when doing it so looks like a good sign
Tommykins
I think he's a largely laconic player, probably the most obvious things he did was organise Phil Petreski very well and he was very vocal. He also has a voice which is only just audible by humans due to how deep his voice is.

strider
His positioning and presence reminds me very much of Yaya Toure, the way he sits in the middle of the park, playing balls out to the wing, drops back deep. Not to mention he's a good 9 feet tall.

Murfy1
Melbourne Heart marquee Orlando Engelaar set to return as unwanted history beckons  David Davutovic  Herald Sun  January 13 2014  MELBOURNE Heart's morale couldreceive a timely boost in their bid to avoid breaking a dreaded A-League record, with marquee player Orlando Engelaar set to make his debut on Friday night against Newcastle Jets.  The giant Dutchman returned to the pitch after four months on the sidelines with a broken leg, afterplaying almost 30 minutes for Heart's youth team in Sunday's 3-1 youth league win over Melbourne Victory.  Jonatan Germano, who was among the goalscorers for Heart, also played his first game of the season, although he's more likely to play another week with the youth team.  Harry Kewell required stitches on a leg gash but trained on Monday as did midfielder Engelaar.  "Orlando is even-money to be in the 16-man squad. His exact role depends on how he does at training,'' football manager John Didulica said.  "He got through just over 25 minutes in a game played at a pretty good pace. He trained again today and there wasn't any residual issues from his game. It's just about tracking him for this week and seeing whether he's right to be picked for Friday night.  "It was Germano's first kick all season. He got through 45 minutes OK, but we probably need to be more patient with him because he's had a series of soft-tissue injuries.''  Heart hosts the Jets at AAMI Park hoping to avoid setting the A-League record for most consecutive games without a win - it is level with the now-defunct New Zealand Knights on 19.  "For us it's no different to any other week. We think we're a chance of winning and the challenge for us is if it doesn't go for us early we need the mental capacity to work through it,'' Didulica said.  "We know we can beat any team in the league, but we need to battle for a full 90 minutes as well.''  http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/melbourne-heart-marquee-orlando-engelaar-set-to-return-as-unwanted-history-beckons/story-fnk6rlg0-1226800960571 Edited January 13, 2014 by Murfy1
jw1739
Oh no, not this comment again. I can't believe that I'm still reading this sort of stuff from our management. thedukeofhearts
surely he couldn't play friday night. He's only played 30 mins in the youth team. Would at least like him to play a full youth game or 90 min training game at full pace.
Tommykins
Youth League have a game against the Jets on Saturday in Melbourne, good chance for him to get a full game under his belt you'd think. But I'd not be surprised to see him line-up for he one's on Friday night.
