After announcing him as our marquee, never been so keen to watch a Heart game, imo our best ever squad with him there.

now this.. bound to be gone for the rest of the season, never been so cut as a Heart supporter, up there with the derby losses of last season. time to find a new marquee, FUCK!!!!

Just tweeted SM & JD, it's bullshit. 48 hours later and we don't know what bone it is, how bad the break is and how long he's predicted to be out for.

They probably have him going around to a few specialists and trying to get all possible answers before they announce anything

Not just gone for the rest of the season but he'll be 35 next season and will have had a long layoff. If he comes back at all its unlikely to be as a marquee

Shopping him around the medical profession to see which one gives the best opinion to the injury....WTF????

You would think they have their own orthopaedic specialist which they would use and trust. If they don't then this club needs to be seen as being professional. These cost cutting initiatives to save a buck are embarrassing. Fancy not having your own medical staff!!!

There is no bloody excuse as to why the extent of the injury and rehabilitation time is still unknown over 48 hours after it occurred.

Don't be ridiculous Dylan. Although knowing our club history they probably went to Dr. Nick and were satisfied with the outcome. Against modern doctors.

"I want answers now, or I want them eventually"

Never said shopping around and going to see multiple people about the best way/extent of the fracture is not cost cutting nor unprofessional.  Havent you heard of getting a second opinion? They would have had the initial doctors in Lismore, then probably a doctor the club uses THEN some orthopedic specialists. AFL clubs dont even have a full time doctor working for them.

I don't blame the club taking its time in announcing anything, I could imagine the hysterical reaction on here if they said 'Yep its a fracture, we are not sure what kind of fracture nor how long it will take to heal.' He arrived Monday night so its only been one day since he has been in Melbourne.

Can someone tell me exactly what happened with Orlando? Extent of injury? How did it happen? When?...... Currently overseas for almost 8 weeks and keen to come back to Oz next week until I read the last few posts.

Had a clash with Broich in his first game for us (Lasted about the same amount as Grella). Came off second best, has a leg fracture but we dont know anything else besides that in regards to when and if he will be able to play this season.

IMO the absence of any updates on Orlando from MHFC is a little disappointing.

As far as Orlando himself is concerned my guess is that this is effectively a career-ending injury. Even if he were, by a miracle, to return to play a few games in a Heart shirt towards the end of 2013-14 I can't see us signing him for a further season, nor can I see anyone else taking him on.

As far as MHFC is concerned I don't see this as disastrous. Provided JD had all the insurance financials covered (and if he didn't he'll deservedly get his arse kicked by the Board) we are effectively back to where we were three weeks ago - searching for a strong DM.

If the absence of a single player means that our season is stuffed, then that means that we didn't have the right players in the squad anyway, and it means that we should have been more ruthless with the likes of Kalmar, Germano and Hoffman, and that we need to be equally ruthless at the end of 2013-14 when players such as Williams and Macallister come out of contract.

It may well be that in the longer term Orlando's misfortune benefits the club. First Grella, now Engelaar - we seem to have a bit of a cargo-cult mentality that somehow one player is going to be our saviour. Perhaps we will now focus more on signing good quality players in their early- to mid-20s who are not necessarily outstanding but have a good work ethic and can grow their skills with the advice and coaching that we can provide. As examples I would put forward Murdocca and Ramsay.

Overall, IMO the clubs with the better coaches who will over time produce the best results. A club with a crappy coach can cycle as many players it likes through the squad but if the team structure and mental approach is not right then it will not be successful.

In summary, I don't think the loss of Orlando will define our season at all. IMO what will decide it is the quality of our coaching team.

how long usually for a fractured tib??? 8-10 weeks perhaps??

I had a broken fib, which isn't the weight bearing bone. Did it in August, started running in December. You'd suspect a tib would be worse off, however the rehab facilities would be a lot better than what I had... couldn't afford garbage bins :(
