Jimmy, he may come good in the next 5 years or whatever. But at the moment, we need a proven coach to take this team to glory to make us a bigger and better club. If we don't come 4th or above this season, a lot of people will give up and new supporters will jump on the mong's bandwagon. Sick of being second fiddle to the tards

Don't blame JA. Blame scott munn, john Diluca and the rest of the board. They had a ready made replacement in Ante Milicic ready to go after JVS left, and instead chose a bloke who had coached for one year in a youth league, and he didn't even have his coaching license yet! They should be sacked before JA

...or we could just support Aloisi, the coaching staff and the board and give them all a chance as the season's still yet to start.

Come on guys, this is easily the most promising off-season the club's had (barring Engelaar's injury which was horrible misfortune) so we need to get behind the club!

I don't really mind what we do as long as I can convince myself that we have some sort of plan to grow this club on and off the pitch.

So far this off-season we've made some sound signings and IMHO one that could have and should have been a lot better, and re-signed several players that I would not have done. Two players - Kewell and Behich - fell into our lap, and without Aziz we would have been trying to convert one of our best forwards into a full-back. We still have not signed a central striker.

As in previous years our pre-season so far shows - surprise, surprise - that we can beat lesser teams, but are under-prepared for A-League opposition. There seem to be unexplained injuries to several players. Engelaar's injury was just one of those things, largely brought about by a clumsy collision between two players, but in part because we were disorganised in defence.

I don't think that we can conclude anything yet. But I'd much rather be in Mulvey's shoes than Aloisi's.

I respect peoples opinions, especially in Football.

But to call JA all sorts of names on this forum is disrespectful and retarded ...

Sir Alex - Bob Paisley - Arsene - Gus - even future OZ bosses Graham Arnold or Ange, The list goes on = They all had to start somewhere..

JA is still wet behind the ears and like all of us in  life and in our proffessional careers has to learn from mistakes.

JA wears his Melbourne Heart, Heart, on his sleeve & deserves backing from club and FANS.

Couldn't agree more DieHardRed. Folks shouldn't turn on their own. There are ways of saying you don't think JA is a good coach, but that can be done in a respectful manner. If JA turns out to be a poor coach, that doesn't make him a bad person. Plus folks should never forget, that penalty JA scored to send us to the 2006 World Cup makes him a Socceroos footballing legend.

Aloisi is not "one of our own". He is a professional being paid good money to lead the club.  If he's doing  a bad job, and cannot see the captain obvious, then we all have a right to make our feelings known.  Fans vent at the coach everywhere all over the world when he under performs.

Oh and I have no doubt in my mind it was that penalty and his consequent profile is the one and only reason he got the gig over Milicic.  How long can he expect his shortcomings as a coach, or anything  else for that matter, remain be above question, as a result of that penalty?

He knows his ass is on the line this season, rightly so

Kiro, I don't have a problem with JA making mistakes or learning on the job. I do mind if any coach keeps making the same mistakes and not learning from them (Holger) or if his learning trajectory is not steep. If getting assistance helps him learn faster then I'm all for it. I do hope though that JA learns that he has a blind spot with regard to the Hoff as a right back.

Bella, a take a different approach. I'm really concerned about anyone who, firstly, without the requsuite experience or qualifications, takes a job on when theyre ill prepared. Any part of managing is knowing oneself, being honest with oneself, and then going out and getting the requisite qualifications and following an apprenticeship model. One year with a youth team without qualifications doesn't expose one to anywhere near enough experience. And I don't buy this "I've played at a lot of clubs so I have the experience". A player only sees a fraction of the tough team and business decisions required to manage.

I also think that, last year especially, we saw no introspection from JA about our performances. I was frustrated at players publicly being blamed for our shortcomings and not following a game plan, where a good manager would deal with this internally and back his players to the hilt, then correct the team problems ruthlessly. I just didn't see it.

I would be delighted to be proven wrong, I honestly would. I want this club to succeed as much as anyone - but the way he was appointed and took the opportunity without experience or skills, is just silly. I hope we haven't lost 2 years of developing a strong club because of a marketing exercise. Results are the final arbiter (?? only) of growing this club. To put this into inexperienced hands at the embryonic stage of our development is too big a risk for me.

I don't see how you can blame someone for applying for and ultimately accepting a position for which he/she may not have the experience or qualification. Surely the accountability for the appointment lies fairly and squarely with those who make or approve of the appointment? In JA's case we know that the Board was split over the final two candidates, AM and JA, because the decision took so long to make, and that in the end the Board appointed the candidate who was not actually the one endorsed by the outgoing incumbent, JvS.

In just the same way if there were any perceived inadequacies during the season, then it was up to the Board to make those inadequacies known to JA and to request him to make the necessary changes to his style or behaviours or whatever.

We are not privy to the inner workings of the club at that high level because it is a private consortium that is running the show. All I can deduce is that the Board must have ultimately been prepared to give JA some more time in the position. Also that whatever differences of opinion caused them to take so long to make the appointment were not sufficient for anyone to quit the club as Joe Mirabella did so publicly over JvS.

Personally I'm surprised JA was offered the position over what I saw as better-credentialled candidates such as Milicic and Mulvey. After the diabolical fade-out last season I'm mildly surprised he's still in the job. I'm sure everyone respects him highly as a former player and as a person and that none of the comments posted on here in the heat of the moment mean any ill-will to him whatsoever. But IMO he is a novice coach who has got off to a difficult start in his coaching career and I don't think that any MHFC supporter should be afraid of voicing their opinion on that. Football, at the senior level, is an industry that is conducted in the public spotlight, and that's the way it is.

Aloisi is not "one of our own".

:droy: You mug. If JA isn't one of our own then I don't know who is.

But Aloisi was adamant he has no interest in crossing over to navy blue and white.

"Not at all," he said when asked if an approach from Victory would make him consider his position.

"Melbourne Heart is my club. I've got a contract here, I've been here from day one. It doesn't interest me who they get, Victory. I'm just focused on doing well for Melbourne Heart. And we will do well."

Wouldnt expect him to say anything else but this was well worded.
