Instead I believe that Aloisi should come out of the Van't Schipp 4-3-3 always works no matter what mould.

Actually JVS did not always play 4-3-3. He would vary his formation in response to his opposition and also if what he saw on the pitch wasn't working.

JVS had enough experience to have confidence in the options he had in front of him. He also didn't have his best players sold from beneath him.

This place is like a year 10 lunch time.

Year 12 where I'm from.

Aloisi needs to win 65%+ of his matches next season for me not want him to be sacked anymore.

Anything but a top 4 finish and a finals run should be deemed a failure, regardless of how many young players we've blooded (despite the current crop in Mitchinson, Walker and Vrankovic being significantly less exciting prospects than Behich, Marrone and Good/Hamill.

Ill even go as far to say that anything but as a league/title chase will be a failure of a season. Club is developing a culture of mediocrity that is seen at Melbourne in the AFL and at Arsenal in the EPL. There's no way potential fans are attracted to a club that runs homeless soccer clinics, has wheelie bins as ice baths, and is the only club beside Victory to break even. The club's competitivity on the field was compromised in 12-13 by an unambitious board with their heart set on getting their money back and an inexperienced coach. As long as the club rectify the mistakes they made last year, we will be ok.

The board has vowed to be more ambitious (marquee, more salary cap room from FFA, more money spent on wages), the club has cleaned out all the dead wood on big wages, the coach has the chance to continue his footballing scholarship (lol) and to fully build a team that he wants.

Therefore, anything but success next season is a failure.

MHFC 13/14, lets have itttttttt.

I believe sidwell vowed that we'd get a marquee, but a few weeks later munn effectively said we wont.

If that's right then it shows disfunctionality and is incredibly annoying because we need to at least try and sign someone like Raul.

Scott Munn initially downplayed the idea of getting a marquee (he never ruled out the possibility, though), and yesterday he said:

And, as chief executive Scott Munn said on Monday, ''the board have agreed to invest more in the playing stocks next season. We operated to the salary cap (floor) and that is something the football department will address.

''Separately we have been told that we can look at higher-profile marquee players on a case-by-case basis if we can make it work, both on the pitch and on a commercial basis.''

So, whilst the positions between the CEO and chairman on Heart getting a marquee might have differed a little initially, they both seem to have the same position now, which is the position I quote above.

JA has made correct decisions so far since the season ended regarding players, but lets not get carried away, he's he's brought in 1 player so far. He still has plenty more places to fill...who will he bring in?????? Secondly he has cut players even a monkey coaching on fuckin stilts would see need to be cut, so nothing ground breaking there. He's on the right track which is great but I think we need to hold our applause till a little later down the track.

Plus, remember assembling a squad is only half the job. He still needs to coach and manage his squad once he has it

Exactly. Actions speak louder than words, lets hope that he continues the good form he has been showing.

I think he should be judged on the players he now signs now that he's cleared out all the deadwood.

It didn't exactly take a genius to know what players should/should've been resigned. JA now needs to show he has the ability to scout players here and abroad who are good enough to take us to a championship.

JA has had half his team sold from under him and had senior players so rubbish it's obvious to all they should be fired.

So how could people be calling for him to be sacked?

Yes he did have players being taken from him, but clearly we were 5th with 5 games left. The team clicked at home for the majority of the season, yet couldnt win away. Thats JAs job to fix that. He clearly couldnt find the answer. He made many errors during the season regarding player selection, tactics and a few more areas. Yes it is his first season coaching the team, but this is not the level of football where we can sit back and give him a chance "cause he's learning". What has warranted him being promoted to senior coach???? He coached 1 season of the youth team and finished 4th. It is rational thinking to believe that this is not the credentials, or lack thereof, you would want in your senior coach.

All good points niko, next season will be when he is judged: a season of learning from mistakes, stamping his own mark on the team selection. Time to deliver.

It's not a valid argument to say that certain players left the club and that's the reason why we performed poorly. Players come and go from clubs all the time for various reasons. It's the job of the football department to have a balanced squad and to have a second line of players ready to step up as and when someone leaves. We made at least two ill-advised signings, deliberately went into last season understrength in terms of numbers, and deliberately refused to sign injury replacements. In many respects we had only ourselves to blame when things went wrong.

Already with the players signed so far for 2013-14 we have an unbalanced squad and our defensive and midfield stocks are sadly lacking with not many senior places left to fill.

It's time that the club stopped making excuses, fessed up and called a spade a spade. A number of mistakes were made last season and we paid the price.

The four releases (Fred, Colosimo, Thompson and Bolton) were blindingly obvious, and we have made one new signing. Steps in the right direction, yes, but hardly a brave new world.

Althought we don't have a huge amount of spaces available on the roster we do have a huge amount of room in the salary cap. JA was only really able to bring in Garcia and a few budget buys. Releasing 4 of our highest earners will give him some room to move and bring in a higher quality of player than D-Mac..

agree.

really there's no excuses not to do well next season. I don't want to come 7th at the end and listen to the club saying "it was an improvement from last season, we used this season to rebuild"

maybe in other leagues around the world that would be acceptable, but in this league it's bullshit. The a-league is quite unique with the salary cap and roster restrictions etc... and it is a league where no matter how bad you were last season, you could very well come out the following season and win the league.

The visitors, showed that this year when after having a horrible season with terrible coaches, and a terrible playing roster to work with, a few tweaks were made and they ended up coming 3rd and are now in the semi-finals. For gods sake western sydney didn't even have a team until a few months before the season started and they are now in prime position to win the double. So there goes that excuse of "we're only a new team" to us and any future expansion teams that enter the league.

It surely can't be rocket science. The league is designed to ensure all teams have as equal chance as possible to win, and at the end of the day it simply comes down to making the right decisions. As far as i'm concerned, if after 4 seasons we haven't won anything then the right decisions have not been made. This off-season for us will be about making the right decisions, and we've got a big opportunity especially with the departure of 'key' players as we now have the chance to bring in a few 'key' players, but once again it is crucial we get these decisions correct.

Coaches like ange, arnold and by the looks of it popovic, have worked out a 'system' and know exactly what type of players they need to put together in order make their teams succeed in this league and they are only getting better at it.

Just clarifying the length of JA's contract, taken from the club web-site today:

'In 2012 Melbourne Heart FC appointed one of Australia’s most successful football exports, John Aloisi, to the position of Head Coach on a three-year contract. Aloisi is the only Socceroo to have played in Europe’s three leading competitions – the English Premier League, Italian Serie A and Spanish Primera Liga. With 55 international caps, scoring 27 goals, including the famous penalty that sent the Socceroos to their first World Cup in 32 years, Aloisi brings substantial elite level experience to MHFC. Having played for the likes of Guus Hiddink, former FC Barcelona and England coach Terry Venables and ex-Mexican national team coach Javier Aguirre during a decorated 15-year professional career, Aloisi has had plenty of experience under some of the best coaching professionals. The Adelaide-born Aloisi joined the Heart in 2010 for his final season as a professional. He retired in 2011, and took over the club’s NYL team for the 2011-2012 season.'

So it is three years and not two as stated elsewhere in this thread.
