jw1739
I'm no expert but I assume it's the same thing sasa was on with us before, not really a contract per se it's just training/any friendly games we would (never) play. More like a contract purely for indemnity etc if he gets injured Yes, it would mainly be about liability etc. should he be injured in any way. No different to any other workplace really - and even your own home. However, Dukes is right in a way. We'll undoubtedly be providing him with various things while he's with us (e.g. food, drink, physio etc.), although in the overall scheme of things the costs would be insignificant. The contract will set out the obligations of both parties to each other and any third party involved. I think it's good that the club do this sort of thing. As long as they're as equally keen on clearing out the deadwood and finding us a couple of players to give us something to be excited about for the second half of the season... My first thought was he was actually receiving a wage just to train with us!! I would of thought having free access to staff and equipment and stuff like that would of been enough. Melburnian
I think we should all forget about obtaining anyone in January and start focusing on names to have a look at for next year. This year is over in terms of making finals etc so the one positive is it allows us to plan and get a head start on other teams.

There have been some uncertain sources linking Valeri with Heart, like how Ozsportsinsider tweeted that we might sign him in October 2012: http://mhfcsupporters.com/topic/1252-carl-valeri/?hl=valeri Could conceivably be a handy addition to the squad. fiz.heart
Doubt that Valeri is marquee status - hasnt featured for the national team for some time and I doubt he will under Ange in the near future. But I would love him in the squad to give us depth in the DM position. Like how WSW did for their backline by bringing in Spiranovic. Bresh should be our number 1 target though.
gundam
Valeri joins second division Ternana Australia midfielder Carl Valeri has joined Italian second division side Ternana, his Serie A club Sassuolo announced.Valeri, 29, is understood to have moved clubs for a transfer fee of $610,000. The Socceroos midfielder had just come back to full fitness after a year out of the game due to a leg injury suffered on national team duty against Korea Republic in November 2012. Valeri's childhood dream of playing in Serie A has taken a massive blow as Ternana is deeply entrenched in the bottom half of Serie B. He came so close to Serie A that he could smell it. But after managing only a handful of bench positions for Sassuolo this season as it battles to stay up, Valeri and his coach Eusebio di Francesco decided that changing clubs would be in the player's best interests. Ternana will offer him the opportunity of regular football that should keep him in the frame for a spot in Ange Postecoglou's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad. Valeri has played 50 times for Australia, which includes three appearances in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Valeri was unavailable for comment. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1179346/Valeri-joins-second-division-Ternana Edited January 22, 2014 by gundam

Murfy1
Davutovic actually wrote yesterday that 'more players could leave in this January transfer window' for Melbourne Heart. Presumably we'd have to bring in a player or two if we let more players go. By the way, apparently the transfer window closes on February the 5th (http://www.theherald.com.au/story/2035008/chinese-dispute-puts-joel-in-doubt-for-jets/). No idea who we could sign, though. I suggested a few Australian players on page 6 in this thread, but with the change of ownership it's very hard to guess what could happen. jw1739
Looking at your list, Burns stands out. Does anyone know if Eli or Rukavtska are getting game time? Eli hasn't played since September. Last I read was he'd had a hernia operation. Rukavytsya gets a few minutes in the 2 Bundesliga. Has started just twice, full game just twice. Scored one goal in 10 matches.
Thrillhouse
Mata on guest stint anyone?
Murfy1
Rukavytsya's on loan to FSV Frankfurt until the end of the season, and I think players that are loaned out can't be loaned out again. His actual club, FSV Mainz, has him contracted until June 2015. Eli had surgery towards the end of last year, and was reportedly 'really close to full training' at the start of this month. And he seems to be eager to prove himself at AZ right now, so he may not be interested in a loan move. I'd be pleased if we could get Nathan Burns. He's a good, versatile attacking players, who's a good age (25), and it seems he'll be available for the remainder of the season (it's not clear that the Jets will move to re-sign him). He'll definitely be snapped up by an A-League club at the end of the season if he's still available, so it might be smart to move for him now. Thrillhouse
With the new owners we can have a real crack, anyone think we could possibly bring in Frank Lampard? Turning 36 in June and i think his contract ends in May. Maureen could tell him it's time to move on, who knows, he was stupid enough to not play mata and sell him. Wages won't be an issue if he's made international marquee We need to aim big

jw1739
Despite the takeover etc. etc.I still think it's worth trying to bring in a no. 9 for the remainder of the season, or a guest player for the final 10 games (who can be foreign BTW). At the moment we haven't had a proper no. 9 all season. 1. For the supporters, who have endured so much. 2. For the players, who are effectively playing a man short all the time. Given the expenditure that is envisaged over the next three years I would have thought we could do this as a gesture of good will.

marn11
Fabio Ferrera & Luke Brattan are still the top of my list of A-League targets. No Idea but think ferrera is out of contract at seasons end. International signings. I want a #10 Ronaldinho Rosicky my ultimate targets. We are now in a position where we can totally raise the bar of quality of imports. Although the league has a salary cap, the new ownership has made us an extremely attractive proposition for a certain type of international player. We have access to 36 scouts around the world, and probably even more contacts on top of that. Taking all this into account, we should not be settling for the Fabio Ferreira's. Use our new resources to find players of a higher quality. Rosicky is a good shout as a marquee though. Still looks good at Arsenal and is out of contract at seasons end. Hard worker, good passer etc.
billyheart
Yeah FF is apart of my before new overlord wish list and agree with elwhat you say RE imports. 36 world wide scouts is the single best thing about this take over. Just a little better than having JD on YouTube looking for players. Rosicky is the centre of rumours to the MLS and of late Bayen munchen, he'd be perfect to own this league. The type of player I want ultimately as marquee.
