The same Murdocca who played regularly in arguably the best side to have played in the a-league? ie. Roar under AP. Murdocca was probably one of our most consistent players and does a decent job at being the link in midfield. The problem was the lack of genuine quality occurring in front of him most of the season. He was moving the ball forward at various stages to Williams, Kalmar, an injured Kewell or inexperienced Mauk as opposed to Broich, Berisha, McKay etc. Obviously someone of Engelaars ilk is a class above in that role but there are far worse players we could have than Murdocca. As for Mauk he is developing nicely. Is starting to impose himself on football matches more which is key in his position. Early doors I was unsure on him as his positioning was quite often poor and seemed easily bullied. Towards the end of the season he was definitely finding his feet at the level with the extra minutes JVS put into him. Next two years will be massive in his development. Murdocca's a strong squad player and was definitely one of our better players this season but that in itself doesn't really say all that much. His energy and workrate is second to none and his ball control is excellent but I think his passing leaves a lot to be desired, he often turns himself into trouble and also has a tendency to lose the ball in crucial areas. I agree in the sense that he's definitely the type of player who would benefit from better quality players around him, but I don't think he's a starting XI player if we're to challenge for the title next season. Just to continue on from Nate's point, the other thing that annoys me about murdocca is his constant reluctance to shoot. So many times last season he gets to the top or around the box, and either plays a pass down to one of the wings, or tries to put through a narrow ball into the box, which just isn't there. Obviously a good striker would help this, but whenever he would take the ball forward last season, the opposition would just sit off him. He needs to become a goal scoring threat otherwise, it may get too crowded in the box for our new striker to operate properly. Yeah agreed but have you actually seen him shoot? About as much power as an 11 year old.

But is it a blatant lie if they chuck a bit of red and white on the away kit and a dash on the badge, with the home kit being sky blue?

Only real criticism I have off the Hoff last night is his body shape when defending. Mabil burnt him outside when they were inside the box. His body shape was all wrong and his momentum was actually going the other way, so he just got clean past, no resistance, into a very dangerous area. I noticed this even happened last week against Broich who definitely isn't the quickest player.

Well that was absolute shit. Same shit, different week. Last 4 games, exact same things. - Can't break opposition down. - When we do get chances, we fuck them up horribly. - Concede cheap goals On a side note, the ref is an absolute spastic. Bloody disappointing. Was a poor performance all round. We just can't break down teams who sit back. We started creating chances regularly in the small period between Orlando's goal (holy fuck, what a goal) and their equaliser, as they started to commit a few bodies forward. Then they just sat back again. You simply can't concede 2 cheap goals like that, especially when you're struggling to break them down at the other end. I think there was a lack of movement in midfield and up top. We've still got a lot to work on, but I think a few new signings and a full pre-season under a decent manager will do us alot of good.

Got the feeling he's more talking about re-signing players, although the work on new signings has surely begun and nonetheless this is positive news. Exciting times.

Garuccio's interceptions and tackle stats are high because every single time they attacked down that side he either dived in for a challenge or tried to win the ball in front of the attacker. In doing so, he got turned many times and then they were in behind instantly. If he's going to be consistently successful at left back he's got to learn when to try and nick the ball in front of his man and when to just sit on the attacker and hold him up. You could tell it wasn't his natural position. Would like to see him play on the wing next week.

Just a flat day in general. Performance, atmosphere, everything. We have a lack of movement in midfield and up front, making it very hard to break down teams when they sit back. Much work ahead.

Despite all my rage and frustration earlier, we can still make finals. 4 wins will hopefully be enough. We have 3 home games against Mariners (been very poor and have ACL), Wellington (aren't great and we smashed them), and wanderers who haven't been that impressive recently and have ACL to contend with. Have to win all 3 of those. Then we have away games against Brisbane, who we beat and normally do alright against and Adelaide, who we should've beaten over there when we played them. Obviously, it's very unlikely and it will also depend on other's results but it's not completely over yet.
