Harry Kewell

We'll still end up winning with this signing. He's on chump change remember? We weren't pinning all our hopes on him were we? He was just going to be part of a bigger picture

I think we'll still win on the deal, but i do think that in that in the end, we have pinned a lot of hope on a 35 year old with a history of injuries.  When you looked at our squad pre-season it looked pretty good, with decent coverage for all positions except #10.  Might seem harsh on Kelmar, but I think he had a lot of question marks against him, so therefore we are relying on HK being fit every week.

Personally I love Harry, but play every week??

Harry isn't sure about playing against Adelaide.

He will call JA Sunday morning.

All depends on the weather, looks like ripper golf day!!!!!!

The game doesn't start until 5pm. Plenty of time for 18 holes first. He'll be a bit tired though so he'll let JA know that he'll only be able to play for 15 minutes

But of that 15min he requests to play, he will only play 7 min of it before succumbing to an injury.

There are five months and one injury left for Melbourne Heart captain Harry Kewell.

Not just, as he hoped at the start of the season, to win a place on the plane to Brazil.

It's to prove he can continue his career at all.

Kewell, who had already barely played for a year, needed everything to go right if his hopes of being selected for Brazil for one last Socceroos hurrah were to come to fruition.

It hasn't. He has played just 70 minutes of A-League football this season, and none in seven weeks.

Barring a spectacular and injury-free run of matches starting with Sunday's home clash with Adelaide United, he'll be swinging a club around Melbourne's sandbelt rather than swinging in crosses amid Rio's sands come June next year.

He's had a head knock. Whiplash. An ankle injury at training. A sanctioned round of golf on match-day. And bugger-all football.

There is little doubt that if Kewell is out of action again for any length of time, the career of one of Australia's greatest footballers is finished.

If the 35-year-old breaks down again long-term, it could echo Vinnie Grella's sad exit at the Heart last campaign. Don't be surprised if it too comes mid-season.

I agree we've got a circus on our hands. We are currently all about gimmicks, media appearances and other superficial things. And IMO this all started around our 2nd season, when the board started skimping on the football department's budget, and then it got progressively worse by our 3rd season and this superficiality has reached its zenith now.

Opting for JA over Milicic between our 2nd and 3rd seasons was, of course, our biggest blunder, and a move that prioritised media appearance over football substance.

Then by our 3rd season we began relying on aging former Socceroos, namely Grella and Garcia. Cheap players, who the Australian media thought well of, but they didn't have enough quality to drag our team to success.

And this season while other clubs went overseas and did demanding and motivating preseasons, we stayed around the outskirts of Melbourne and had One Direction people train with us.

Then we signed Kewell as our captain. Our damn captain! We didn't get an expensive captain like Del Piero or Mark Milligan. We didn't even have a decent A-League veteran left in our squad to promote to captain, like Brisbane have in Matt Smith and Adelaide have in Galekovic.

Kewell has been too much like our club in general. He presents himself very well in the media, but that can't hide fact he's been a complete non-entity this A-League season. No amount of media spin can conceal our god awful football performances and results

The only awards our club has won are the Football Media Association (FMA) Club of the Year Awards. And we're now back to back winners (over our 2nd season and last season)! It shows where our club's priorities have been.

2 quick things. It should be said that doing well in the media and having good PR is fine, BUT not if you lack substance, hence not if you're a football club that can't play football. Also, it should be noted (credit where credit is due) that our club made baby-steps back in the right direction this season with the signing of Engelaar and a few new VISA players (indeed our new players like Murdocca and Kisnorbo have been among our best). But all this just shows how far we strayed, how bad we had become, by the start of this season, with our hopelessly inexperienced coaches, deadwood (Dmac, Hoffman, injury-prone Germano) and generally cheap and badly inconsistent squad.

Harry would rather a sink a hole in one at royal Melbourne than score the winning goal for Melbourne heart this weekend...

Still a legend of the club though

Legend... never quite believed, but on the other hand, because of its vague possible basis in fact, never quite dismissed as fiction.

Going by JAs comments there is zero chance kewell will be playing. I don't know, and maybe someone can explain, how you can still have swelling in the ankle and expect to play a full flight football match? If this is the case then him being named in the squad is more of a cover up to calm shit down, knowing people will be pissed off even more at him and at the club. This then takes up a spot in the squad list for the game, technically we are using up a spot for a player that can barely play yet. It all doesn't make sense...
