NewConvert
His amazing solo effort aside he was actually quite average. Often releasing the ball far to soon and hitting long balls to kewell expecting him to make runs against a younger opponent. If you watched the interview with JVS you will notice that the instructions were for HK to be upfront ready to receive the ball from the midfield (441 formation), so in this respect he was following instructions (except when he kicked the goal). As far as releasing the ball too early I need to watch the game again. Also from JVS interview he needs to repeat last night's performance more often and he explicitly mentioned that he knows what DW can do and needs to deliver every week. United
His easily the most frustrating player in the team, before his typical one-off brilliance, he was just lobbing the ball to noone time and time again giving away possession when we were struggling to get a grip with 10men understandably. His too inconsistant, but then again he'd be in Europe if he had consistancy to his game, and not be playing for us.
MaliMate
Bit part bench player at best. Should go elsewhere if he expects to keep his contract (Aussie marquee isn't he?)
Kiro Kompiro
He really is an excitement machine. Probably the quickest player in the league over 50 metres. He just has to become more composed, could have really doubled his goals scored this season. I'm calling it now and I hope we keep him next season. Watch him tear teams up if we don't. SF33
His easily the most frustrating player in the team, before his typical one-off brilliance, he was just lobbing the ball to noone time and time again giving away possession when we were struggling to get a grip with 10men understandably. Not sure about that. He'd only been on the park for 20 minutes and by the time he came on, it was pretty clear that a point, given the circumstances, wouldn't have been a bad result. Several times, Williams or Behich got possession and were running up the wing and literally didn't have an option, because everyone was sitting back. So, in that situation, I'd probably rather them take the American Football option and just punt it as far and as high as possible, so Sydney takes over possession deep in their defensive half and our defenders and mids have a few seconds to catch their breath and regroup, rather than trying to invent something, expecting Kewell to win a one on three or something and ultimately giving away the ball to Sydney well in their attacking half. I like Williams, but not as our marquee Australian, obviously. We'd want someone Williams' age, or a bit younger, who will be in the squad for Brazil and that should be within our reach. I guess whether we keep Williams or not will depend partly on whether he'd accept a more sensible contract than what's been suggested here. mulhollanddrive
For 90% of that run, he was still David Williams, running fast nowhere with poor touches. He does have the ability to create moments though, and the composure and finish was outstanding, not something I would trust him with normally! Murfy1
Williams' memorable goal 1 February 2014 David Williams’ last-gasp winner for ten-man Melbourne Heart FC ensured that the 2-1 win over Sydney will go down as one of the more memorable nights at AAMI Park. And Williams’ effort will go down as one of the Club’s most memorable strikes. The super sub balanced the perfect blend of pace, power, technique - and a calm head - to score one of the Hyundai A-League’s goals of the season. But despite the Williams’ execution following a blistering run of pace, it was the magnitude and significance of the goal, which secured Melbourne Heart three points after the team seemed destined for defeat, that made it special for the Club and its supporters. “It was a good feeling, I’m still trying to comprehend the win, I think it was a good team effort again,” Williams said. “I know it’s pretty cliché for everyone to say that, but we dug deep and it feels even better to win playing with a man less and we really enjoyed it last night.” Williams’ came off the bench in the second half at the 69th minute mark as John van’t Schip injected two attacking players, with Benjamin Garuccio also entering the fray, in an adventurous attempt to secure all three points - despite his side possessing a numerical disadvantage after Orlando Engelaar's dismissal. The plan eventuated as a masterstroke, although Williams admitted his burst of pace didn’t come without strong mental determination, with the side tiring rapidly after having to fight for nearly an hour with one less player. “It’s different when you come on a sub because you seem to run out of steam, because you don’t have the time to work yourself into the game as you usually do,” Williams said. “But it’s a mental thing because we know our bodies are right and fit and it was more about just attacking the goal.” Williams said that the win rated as one of the best he had been involved in at Melbourne Heart. “It was very special and we’re just glad that it was at AAMI Park to include all of our fans as part of it as well,” Williams said. Despite the morale-boosting result and the fact that Melbourne Heart have collected seven points in its last three matches, Williams said the squad was remaining grounded. “We can’t get too ahead of ourselves; we’ve still got a long way to go and we’ll take it a game at a time before we start looking too far into the future,” Williams said. “I think we’ve hit a good part of form at the moment and take a lot of teams by surprise and hopefully be as dangerous as we were on [Friday night].” http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/melbourneheart/news-display/Williams-memorable-goal/84788 Edited February 1, 2014 by Murfy1
Murfy1
Really came up with the goods last night, good on him. I hope he can show more though in what remains of the season, as like JVS I think Williams can (and probably should) provide more. jw1739
The problem we tend to have as fans with all players is that we look at matches one at a time - they have a good match and they are a hero, they have a bad one and they are a villain. It's the coaches' (plural) role to assess players and squads in a holistic way over time and in various sets of circumstances, and judge accordingly. Last night's match against Sydney was a real cracker in many respects, but we shouldn't forget that what we saw is the sort of skills, intensity, grit and determination that a top side has to show every week if it wants to win silverware. Not just once in a while. I don't resile from saying that our present squad has not demonstrated that, and therefore a number of releases and new signings need to be made.

HEARTinator
LOL, in his cameo last night we saw the best and not-so-best of Willo. He runs fast, lets the ball get away from him often, but sometimes has a moment of magic that makes you think he's a genius. Problem is, and he's not alone in the HAL, that he is inconsistent and would give coaches heart attacks. If he is kept for next year I reckon he is suited as a super sub - energy, pace and hopefully a magic moment.

Does not do this very often and on Friday's night game he kicked the ball a bit further with the hope of beating the Serb but the Serb used his bigger body mass to shove him off. You are right about consistency in the HAL but I imagine that if they were consistently good they will be playing in bigger leagues.
