Kiro Kompiro
JVS simply cannot coach defence. He simply cannot do it. JA has his brother at Roar coaching defence. How hard is it for the club to bring in a defense coach when its obvious the team will schip many goals.
Heart of oakleigh
Caceres as usual fades in & out of games and our defence is a huge worry. We need a CB, LB, RB (franjic out indefinently) & an AM. With only 2 visa spots left i cant see which aussie players we can pick up.

Yep, just means that JVS was caught out with a crappy defensive line that was exploited all night. Thank fcuk for some nice work from Fitzy and the Bruno/Brucy combo for the second pen and Sorenson standing tall between the sticks and knowing when to run out to intercept a dangerous ball. Otherwise the night went well

Otherwise the night went well JVS clearly sees the defense a player problem-according to him, its the players that are at fault for getting caught by the simple ball over the top. No its not HIS instructions to the defense to play so high and for the CB's to spread so far apart. An absolute joke of a coach.
jw1739
Bearing in mind that the starting XI was almost unrecognisable from last season, I'm not too worried about things just yet. These matches away to a competent non-league side are always a banana-skin for the league side, and there's not a lot in it for the league side whatever the result. Win - oh, well, that's what they ought to do; lose and everyone is on them like a ton of bricks. We've managed to get over the line in a couple of tricky fixtures so far, and ultimately that's what counts. However, the result takes nothing away from the pressing need to get in two quality defenders to shore up our back line, and I agree with everything that's being said about that need. If the club can't see it then we are indeed in for another disappointing season.
Murfy1
Not worried, but underwhelmed.  The team that played was pretty much full strength player-wise. Melbourne had effectively 70% possession, and simply didn't produce anywhere near enough chances for a team that dominated possession that much. It took 2 pens to get us out of jail. And the NPL side Brisbane Strikers effectively had as many shots as us, and probably had the better chances from open play, despite only having the ball 30% of the time.  Credit to our hardworking wingers Fitzgerald and Kamau, as they produced the attacking moments to bring about the penalties. Also Bruno was quality as usual, with a top pass to Kamau for the 2nd pen, and he took his 2 pens well. Also credit to Sorensen for saving the team's blushes with some good saves.  Apart from them the other players didn't produce much again semi-professional opposition. Our midfielders Brattan, Kilkenny and Caceres IMO didn't create near enough chances, and didn't even get the ball into the the final third often enough for a team that had 70% possession. My concern that 3 good players--Brattan,Kilkenny,Caceres--won't compensate the loss of 1 great player in Mooy wasn't eased after this match. Also I fully agree with the comments about the defence. Not good enough. We need multiple new defenders, and I now believe that we need a marquee defender to compensate for our coach's complete inability to create an effective defensive system (it really is a massive indictment of JVS. Tony Popovic can turn 4 training cones into an A-League winning defence, whereas JVS needs probably the most expensive defence in A-League history just to avoid embarrassments from poor defending).  The main positive is that Melbourne City is now into the final 8 for the FFA Cup. At most only 4 out of the final 8 teams will be A-League sides (including Melbourne City), so the team has a decent chance to win something. Just 3 more wins to get silverware.  Performance-wise things have to improve over the next 6 weeks. With 2 more Visa signings, including 1 marquee spot, and only 1 long-term injury (Franjic) there are absolutely zero excuses for the team not to be competitive and exciting by round 1. The club needs to work overtime to make sure the team deserves all the buzz it will receive going into round 1 with our highest ever profile signing Tim Cahill in the team (for what it's worth I believe things will improve. But I believe 3 or 4 key changes need to be made before the season kicks off).
