FIFA World Cup 2014

"Spain might be relishing the prospect of playing Australia in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and that might have just as much to do with the fact Kevin Muscat has long since retired rather than the gap between their world rankings.

A popular Spanish football website compiled a countdown of the most violent players in the history of the game and the former Melbourne Victory captain was crowned football's dirtiest player.

El Gol Digital posted a list of the ten worst offenders of the past and present including Luis Suarez, Roy Keane and the infamous Andoni "The butcher of Bilbao" Goikoetxea but they all paled in comparison to the villainy of Muscat, according to the website.

The now Victory coach first made a name for himself as a hard man in the United Kingdom while playing for Wolves, Crystal Palace, Glasgow Rangers and Millwall but it was the shameful end to his A-League career that earned him this unenviable gong.

Footage of Muscat's vicious tackle on Adrian Zahra in 2011 - which resulted in a career ending suspension - went viral to become his lasting reputation in continental Europe.

The list: 10) Nigel De Jong, The Netherlands, 9) Marco Materazzi, Italy, 8) Mark Van Bommel, The Netherlands, 7) Roy Keane, Republic of Ireland, 6) Gennaro Gattuso, Italy, 5) Luis Suarez, Uruguay, 4) Andoni Goikoetxea, Spain, 3) David Navarro, Spain, 2) Pepe, Portugal/Brazil, 1) Kevin Muscat, Australia."

I guess Musky has done one good thing. Now the Spaniards will fear the Socceroos thinking they will get chopped and leave the 50/50 balls.

Spain plays Bolivia tomorrow morning in friendly and Netherlands plays Ghana on Monday morning. Will be keen to see how our opposition is travelling. Looks like van der Vaart ruled out of WC2014 making Socceroos chance of getting out of the group chance still Buckleys and Nunn.

So Spain beat Bolivia 2:0 but it could have been 3 or 4 nil. Bolivia were tight when defending, which was about 75% of the time, they had 5 across the back, 4 in midfield and 1 up front. Spain had possession with ease and pretty much knocked it about as they wanted. Bolivia had three shots and none on target. Spain had 25 shots and 8 on target. Fabregas, Villa and Iniesta were brought on as substitutes!!!!

Well it will be interesting to see how Ange approaches this. A high pressing Socceroos strategy could easily come undone and then we'll get hammered - no doubt. Or does he take the Bolivian approach and set to defend and frustrate the Spanish and keep the loss respectable? If we win the game it would surely go down as one of the great WC upsets.

He has said he will play his usual aggressive, attacking style. We will get hammered significantly.

It will surely go down as one of the greatest WC losses.

I don't mind going on the attack or at least attempting to. It beats letting them dictate the game the whole time, where we will lose anyway. But on the flip side Ange like always will play his system win lose or draw. And like against equador he won't change his game tactically or doesn't have the ability to change his game tactically to counter any changed tactics from the opposition. Hence why club level has been good but national level stuff has been poor in the past. And the lack of quality and depth in the team this World Cup will hide any of his shortcomings. We could lose 10-0 and he will be the last reason why we lost.

OK, Netherlands beat Ghana 1:0 with the goal in the 5th minute scored by combination play of Sneijder to Robben to Sneijder with a cut back to RVP GOAL!!!!! That was it.

Ghana had possession but hardly fashioned a shot on goal. The Oranje had a solid back line repelling attacks without too much problem. I can see us having more possession against them but coughing the ball up in the middle will be fatal. The standaout player for Ghana was their goal keeper. Saved two certain goals from Robben. Arjen was wasteful in the first half making a hash of it just a couple of metres directly in front of an open goal. All in all not an impressive display by the Oranje compared to Spain.

If Matty Ryan has a blinder and our backline is tight we could jag a point when we play them. Or more likely we'll go down 1 or 2 nil.

So fucking excited

I have no allegiance but I hope Croatia beat Brazil, their tears would be delicious

Gotta feeling that Hrvatska will give Brazil a run for their money until the ref gives a soft pen when Neymar goes down tooooo easily in the box - the slimy, wriggling shit. The Croatia boys then start arguing, get sent off and Brazil cruises to a 2:0 victory. Or maybe ....
