Fuck me, Aloisi has absolutely 0 excuses this season.

They club's given him everything he could ask for;

3 world class assistants + Hayden Foxe,

Improvement on Backroom staff too,

A very, very strong squad, by far the best we've had, with virtually 3 marquee players,

Sent him to England to finish his FIFA pro licence,

They sent him on an educational trip to Italy, Spain and The UK,

Brought over reps and coaches from AZ Alkmaar,

And the very best fans!

Nus boosts Heart's coaching ranks

David Manuca 08 October, 2013

EXCLUSIVE: Melbourne Heart FC has appointed Gerard Nus as an assistant coach at the club for the 2013-14 Hyundai A-League season.

Nus, who most previously worked at Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Championship, joins Heart as a co-assistant alongside Hayden Foxe.

Heart coach John Aloisi was delighted with the capture of Nus, claiming an extra pair of eyes around the club will be a massive boost.

“It all came about at the end of last season,” Aloisi told au.fourfourtwo.com. “We sat down and spoke about what we thought we need to improve on and go forward with, and one of them was to get another set of eyes.”

“A coach that can help me and help Hayden and help the players during the week.

“Gerard’s name come about and when I was over in London with Hayden we sat down with him and saw his CV, spoke to him about football and spoke about the way we want to play.

“We think he can bring us a lot and also help us during the year, and he’s got a good experience not only working with some older players but also with the youth players so he’ll be a big help to us.”

Gerard has experience working in a number of countries around the globe, including alongside compatriot Rafael Benitez at Liverpool FC as a part of the reserve coaching staff.

Last season he was working under Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet at Brighton as the Head of Academy Coaching before leaving via mutual consent in January of 2013.

Along with Nus, Heart also has former coach John van’t Schip on the coaching staff this season, something that Aloisi believes will be a great help to not only himself but also the players.

“It’s great because he comes to watch training and he’ll sit in the stand and after the training session I’ll ask him questions about certain things I’ve been looking at,” said Aloisi.

“We chew the fat about football all the time and it’s great to have someone with the experience that he’s got.

“He’s like a mentor to me. It’s also good for the club and sometimes he might have a chat with an individual player every now and then to just see how life is.

“He’s another familiar face around the club and everyone likes him. I’m lucky that he’s on board with us.”

Ron Smith is no longer at the club however due to his inability to move from Canberra after joining last season as a technical advisor.

“It was difficult because Ron couldn’t be with us,” said Aloisi. “So we decided we wanted someone who could be here day in day out.”

Gerard Nus seems to have started an online journal on the website of well known Spanish football journalist, Guillem Balague:

Notes from Australia

Guillem’s mate, Gerard Nus, is working down under as assistant coach to John Aloisi. This is the first of his blogs about life in the bush.

Wednesday 16-10-2013

Welcome to Australia

Without any doubts, this blog should be dedicated to Australia and Melbourne Heart FC, where I’m fortunate to work as assistant coach for John Aloisi.

I’m taking my first steps in Australia and it’s easy to see that apart from being a spectacular country, it’s growing steadily and correctly. A continent far away from everything, but aware of their identity and their beliefs.

The variety of sports is wide in spite of having a population of a slightly more than 20

million. The main sport is FA Rules, which is, Australian football. This sport is only played in this country and it needs to be seen to be believed! Magnificent stadiums, oval pitches, tall and strong players who pass the ball to each other and can score in three goals (the tallest one is like the rugby goal and the others two smaller goals on the sides).

Also in daily life it’s popular the Australian Rugby, known by all as the Aussies, with different rules from the European. And cricket, which is a classic in the Commonwealth. Punctually, but no less important, is the Formula 1 and tennis, especially for the Australian Open and the famous names who were born here.

Start of the season

The reception was fantastic and the competition has already started so I am adjusting accordingly. A few days ago the season started on the 12th of October. The A-League (Australian Football League) is composed of 10 teams played in 3 rounds, there are 27 matches. Once the regular season has finished the play-off are played to decide the league champion and to determine the teams who are going to play the next Asiatic Champions League.

For us, the league began with a derby between Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart in front of 45.000 spectators. Our team played defensively very strong and we had chances to score. The match ended with a goalless draw, but we had good feelings against one of the candidates for the title.

Melbourne Heart

Melbourne Heart is a club that is demonstrating ambition and growing up and competing well. We have got well known players like Harry Kewell ex Liverpool FC and captain of the team; Orlando Engelaar ex Twente FC, Schalke 04 and 14 times international for Netherlands; Rob Wielaert ex Ajax and Twente FC and Patrick Kisnorbo ex Leeds United FC and Leicester City, inter alia. Leading and managing the team we have a John Aloisi, well known in Spanish League as a striker from Osasuna FC and Alaves FC. For me it’s an honour to work with him.

  • 3 weeks later...

1.    Head of the Academy Coaches at Brighton & Hove Albion FC

2.    First Team Assistant Manager at Chunnam Dragons (South Korea)

3.    Reserve's coach / Fitness coach (1st team) / Academy coach at Liverpool Football Club

Let Nus coach out the season, and then sign him for next year if he performs.

Sound suggestion. Surely between Nus, Palatsides and Foxe we have enough know-how to take us though the remainder of this season?

More thoughts from Down Under. Gerard Nus shares his thoughts on the A League

Tuesday 12-11-2013

The A-League is going quickly now as we are in the second month of competition. We have already played five games and the teams are starting to position themselves in the table and define their playing style and their virtues.

Brisbane Roar is leading the classification with 12 points, followed by Western Sydney with 11 points. Melbourne Heart still looking for their first win, which they are finding difficult, but they are showing that they are competitive and they are giving good feeling, above all with the matches against Melbourne Victory, Central Coast Mariners and Western Sydney Wanderers.

The next match we will play is against Sydney FC, led by Del Piero, the famous Italian Striker. This game will be played 7.30 pm.

Interesting facts

I would like to take advantage of writing this blog to tell you some interesting facts that the European supporters might find strange about Australian soccer.

The long trips and the different time tables between cities make preparation of the matches complicated. For example, there are more than 4 hours by plane between Perth and Melbourne; also there is 3 hours difference in time zone.

Comparing this to the Spanish league it would be like if Barcelona played a League match against a team from Moscow (Russia) or if Chelsea played a Premier League match against a team from Dubai.

In addition, I found it curious to see interviews in the changing room during some moments of the match. It seems that in the others sports they do the same too. The television can go in to the changing room during the half time break and show images live on Fox Sport, who are televising the game.

During this break, the assistant coach can be interviewed by journalists, who try to get some information about the tactics for the second half.

Did you know that in the A-League the teams can have up to five foreign players? Or that all of the teams in the A-League have limited budgets? Which is to say that they can only spend what is permitted. This guarantees the stability of the economy of the clubs.

Did you know that every team can have 2 players which are paid higher than the agreed salaries? They are called “marquee players” and they are the marketing image of the club, also this is an elite element, which improves a lot the sporting level of the club.

Did you know that the football league is also played during the Australian summer too? For this reason, when the temperature is too hot, the coaches and referees agree a minute’s break to have a drink mid-way between both halfs of the match.

All of these details are a revelation for someone who was formed in  European football.

What is your opinion about this?

His mannerism are fantastic, very calm head in his shoulders it would seem. I would love to know exactly what he thinks about our football at melbourne heart and the players we have. Still don't have a good grasp as to how this guys mind works football wise. Besides his website there's not a great deal of information about this guy, so does anyone have any other links about him???
