Old JVS is back, too slow around the box, passing backwards instead of having a go.

Put the ball in the box, put them under more pressure

This is the first game after spending almost two years just bombing the ball to no-one, I'd say the current game is nothing short of miraculous given he had about 3 days with the players.

They need to learn to move for each other when we're playing with the ball on the deck, it'll come in time.

Yup. Am happy to give him a chance because the season is over, but already you can see that boring ineffective game plan creeping in.

At least he has a game plan!

The one thing he offered us was quality finishing and the ability to find the back of the net on a regular basis. No where near showing us that. He's fluffed too many chances now to blame delivery. Rather give GolGol a chance to develop or Williams a run in his preferred position over wasting our time on the mosquito.

And his passing is rubbish!

Like I said in the other thread. I was never expecting a miraculous turn around and its an improvement. But people jizzing off because we managed to knock a few passes between defenders instead of knocking it long is a bit rich.

I don't think it is. I think it has more to do with just how much damage JA has caused us the last couple of years.

Mifsud just looks like a forward who is used to playing against easy defenders and defences, which he did in the Maltese league for 3 years before joining Heart. Despite being only 32, playing at the low level of the Maltese league for so long has clearly weakened his quality as a footballer.

Every now and again he shows glimpses of quality, like when he beat 3 defenders after a throw in to get a shot away. But still, he isn't showing enough ability often enough. And then there's his finishing...

The hope that he'll score one or two and go on a run of good form is getting slimmer and slimmer.

But still, the club, namely JA and Didulica, and possibly the board (if they limited funds), deserve blame for expecting so much of Mifsud, and for only having Dylan Macallister as our only other striker.

Clearly they don't play the offside rule in Malta.

I was seriously asking during the game if he knew the rules? I was concerned.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt early on, but he has to go now. He struggles to finish the chances he gets and gets outplayed when he makes many of his runs. Easy to defend against.

This is the key point.

Meh, Archie Thomspon has made a career out of football without knowing.

Needs to be benched, and when he is put on he shouldn't play as a striker, but rather a high winger or mid.

His pressure is good, and his passing is decent.

As a striker his shooting is woeful, especially considering he doesn't hit them with power (which is a bit more haphazard and forgivable when they shank it) but he tries to gently caress his shots past the keeper. Unfortunately they are these limp shots that are never on target or if they are it's because they look like he miskicks them and they bounce gently into the keepers arms.

And how many times can he start offside? I'm not talking about trying to break the offside trap and moving a second too early, I mean he is standing offside when he continues his run. And way too many times he finds himself offside pre-pass, and yet makes no effort to get back onside, especially after an attack has just failed or hit an obstacle, so when we get the ball back unexpectantly and try and counter straight away he might as well be off the pitch because we certainly can't pass it to him.

At least in the second half yesterday he finally demonstrated that yes, he can actually retain the ball under pressure, and he did some good pressure acts and even created a scoring opportunity with a dangerous run, but so often he is just pushed aside. He has no idea how to use his body to protect the ball, unlike Murdocca who despite being the exact same size can shepherd the defender away.

At best start him on the bench, and tell him he isn't starting on the pitch until he puts away 2 goals at NYL.

You have to remember that the ridiculous number of times he had been in offsite position are not against strict and drilled top European clubs who play well defended, tactical football.

He can't time his run against HAL defenders who realistically wouldn't make B grade on the continent.

This poor discipline or lack of speed and timing is costing us games.

I'd rather he took a split second longer to launch and gave him self an opportunity to beat the defender.

Currently he is wasting some great balls through which translate to missed goal opportunities.

Being constantly offsite then turning around to give thumbs up to the player who passed the ball is not good enough.
