Hey all, I'm back from China for several weeks. For multiple reasons, it was much harder to follow the team from over there then expected. But anyway now I look forward to seeing the team up close, and watching every minute of every match! I've seen some of pre-season, but overall I've got a lot of catching up to do. In particular, I'm very keen to see how some new elements--new coach in Joyce, new players in marquees like Budzinski and McCormack (rep. for Fornaroli, I know), and a pretty new defence--impact the team. Also, I gather the league has tightened this season, with seemingly strong recruiting from every club. So this season looks very interesting from the outset Look forward to being at our truly top class stadium AAMI Park later to see the action!16 points

Gotta say, Malik was MOTM for me. Didn’t put a pass wrong all night and looked solid defensively. I’m not a fan of his usually but that was his best shift in a City shirt apart from maybe the FFA Cup final9 points

Are you kidding? Osama was pinging them forward all night. Easily best performance I've seen of his in a city shirt. Absolute metronome in midfield. All in all solid and disciplined team effort. Not world beaters but 3 points and a clean sheet I'll take it5 points

I was thinking of posting my opinion of tonight but every time the basic fact that Brisbane were utter trash kept coming back. They were woeful and judgment on us should be made with that in mind. It was an awful game to watch. Defensively we were superb and as a foundation that is a relief but if we are going to win matches we need to improve creatively. I'll enjoy the win and go into the Derby quietly confident.4 points

Bort so cool in defence. Physical, strong, quick. So well done it went by under the radar. Promising signs, early days.3 points

A tactical defensive master class. We never let them have freedom in their final third and we were dominant in the mid field. A perfect foundation to build upon. Kamau is shit, but if he is shit at everything else and scores 2 goals then he deserves credit especially when he is executing Wazza's plan perfectly by cutting into the box aggressively. Ross is class and created forward momentum. All in all a very well organised and solid performance. Credit to Wazza's leadership. MOTM La Rocca, Bart or Malik with a special mention to Muscat, Brattan, and Jacobsen3 points

He needs better service. He had f all tonight. But considering he has only been a week with the squad it will take another game or two to develop the understanding. It will be interesting to see him and Carusca in tandem.3 points

The only real reason you could argue that Malik wasnt motm tonight is that kamau scored twice. Terrific performance by everyone, in particular the gaffer whom i thought absolutely nailed it tactically. Everyone was good tonight, kudos on a pragmatic but effective approach.3 points

FYI memberships are fully transferrable, provided they would otherwise be in the same category or lower. Ie adult for adult. Obv you can't get an adult in on a kids membership etc 5 kids? Man you could have done with more TV games a few years back!3 points

To me it seemed like while he wasn't firing lasers around the ground, he'd get an important touch in heavy traffic or under pressure to release a teammate in space time and again, If he can do that regularly, he'll deserve to be pushing for a starting spot.2 points

Winning comfortably and rarely being challenged, despite not playing especially well. I'm enjoying the novelty of this feeling.2 points

Thought it was a mediocre performance against a crap team. Take the points and pull our finger out next week Slow ball movement and for fucks sake I thought the constant switching play in defence was done for when the tanned cunt left Jako good apart from the massive chance on the wing 2nd half2 points

Tonight Bruce Kamau proved that you can score 2 goals and still be the shittest on the pitch.2 points

Tough to split Fitzy, Schenkenveld and Brattan for MOTM. Kamau probably worth a shout too given he scored a brace.2 points

I thought the defensive inclusions of Jurman, Risdon and Behich were all really good moves and it seemed to work until Ange subbed Risdon, requiring a formation change. Aaaaaand everything pretty much went to shit from there. The penalty was obviously contentious but we shouldn't have been in that position anyway given the service Mooy was delivering first half, it's unfortunate Juric's finishing was abysmal and Kruse has the first touch of a rapist but what's new really.2 points

Try living on the Gippsland line. Having to race to Southern Cross straight after the game to catch a bus because the trains always get cancelled. Whats normally a 90 minute trip can be 3-4 hours.2 points

Can confirm this will be sang at the game Tonight. Always For Melbourne2 points

I decided not to buy a Richmond membership this year and look how that turned out for the club. I'm going to take one for the team here and not buy a City membership so that we win the premiership. It's a fool proof plan.2 points

I'll take a win and three points, but FMD that was an awful match to watch. I don't blame active for being quiet, whatever the reason. It took just 10 minutes for the bloke sitting next to me to suggest that we needed a counter on the big screen giving the number of City back passes. I certainly hope that we're going to be more creative up front as the season progresses.1 point

Full credit to Malik he played a completely sound game, and barely put a foot wrong so completely warranted for a vote. Bort was also equal to Malik in his performance. Looking at the stats though I'll def go with La Rocca for the following reasons: 100% tackles won 100% aerial duals won 100% all duals won for the match 90% pass accuracy He didn't put a foot wrong the whole match.1 point

Ahaha thanks Wazza but god damn I hope both teams were a bit nervous and rusty. Was a bit dire at times1 point

A similar criticism was made of Makelele once. Fwiw don't take this as trying to defend Malik as he has been a rubbish player for us (couldn't watch game tonight so cant comment on his latest performance).1 point

We got the 3 points, Kamau both goals, not a fluent display with lots of kinks but then again a lot of upside possible. Well then how bad was Aloisi's Roar? Aloisi OUT1 point

Got zero service tonight. Did what he could with what he got. Will be a good signing if we can play more creatively and get the ball to him early.1 point

Outstanding performance, mainly because there is clearly a ton of improvement in this team. Budzinski, Kilkenny, Carrusca and Cahill playing zero-minimal part, just glimpses from McCormack. I think the most promising thing was that basically all of our whipping boys (Kamau, Muscat, Malik, La Rocca, Brattan) played really well. Schenkenveld had a great league debut after a howler to cost us the first goal in the Cup Quarter Final. Jakobsen solid in an unfamiliar role, though he was found wanting a bit for speed at times. And I'll always love the red and white stripes, but geez the new kits look classy.1 point

I know it's only a half but we have never looked that solid defensively One long range shot from calletti and one scuffed shot from skapetis is all they have had Brattan, mauk and Malik have controlled the midfield well Kamau was terrible but then scored so hopefully confidence lifts Need to keep going and kill them off, and not leave it at 1-01 point

Man, Clint Bolton hates us. Is that because of how he got let go by the club?? True English lower league style1 point

Probably playing 4 CBs just to make sure. Smart move for the first game IMO as they have some quality up front. Edit.....Sorry make that 5 CBs, I don't think Wazza wants to concede1 point

Lol. Not necessarily a bad thing considering we are also sponsored by McDonalds.1 point

Nothing better than having a high quality player that is fit, hungry, has a point to prove, and has his future riding on his performance over the next 3 month's. Very encouraging.1 point

We've always looked good on paper. We've rarely lived up to expectation, and that's what Wazza is here to remedy.1 point
