How much longer do we supporters have to suffer? No joy in this team, no poise, no calm - just stressed-out, under-achieving football in the image of their coach. JVS hasn't got the vision, he's from the past, and has to go.

It really is hard to believe how disappointing this team has been all along. There were moments with Sibon, Behich, even Kewell - but mostly, all I feel is despair at their lack of intensity and self-belief. Why do I keep renewing my membership? Masochism, and the foolish belief that one day the stands at AAMI will be full, and we'll dominate a game. Sad.

Fucking terrible obviously, but gotta agree about the terrace, I switched ends at half time too because so many fuckers around me refusing to chant and instead bag out the capo.

The Cove didn't stop once and we were clearly out chanted yet again, and no it's not the fox mics being turned up.

Sad but true, active's been kind of disappointing this season.

Doesn't help that the team is complete and utter shit but still.

So frustrating once again! How did we beat Brisbane?

The moment we get on some sort of run which looks threatening, we just stop and hold up play. No one is running through and supporting.

I heard it so many times in the stands the frustration. Everyone is right when we only get into the game at the very end or if we have got a late goal, same thing happened against the Jets at home.

What just happened in the active support area? A lot of police just flocked to it.

Just trying to justify their presence tonight. Should've been in the North terrace last night, but took the soft option and waded into our terrace with the pepper spray. They'll be in the media tomorrow saying how they quelled any trouble tonight and took action. They were spoiling for action all night.

Positives

Negatives

everything else.

This was a very poor game, the result was clear from the second minute when we were flat, second to every ball, aimless, second to every second ball, not compact and allowing Sydney to play between the lines. It was 12 minutes before we even had control of the ball in our attacking half. I see no progression in the team despite demonstrably better players than last season. We won't keep a single clean sheet with this back 5 and have nobody on the team that can score important goals. CFG, you've underestimated the size of the task and underestimated the Melbourne sporting market, both in competitiveness and sophistication. There are 4 major football codes here, summer cricket including Test cricket, major events like the Grand Prix and Australian Open - people are not going to waste their time and money retuning to watch the football being played by their franchise. 9,000 again, but this time for a Saturday night game, soon we'll be back to 6,000 idiots.

Disgraceful performance really ... nothing good to be said other than Melling looks like he will be ok for us. Team is a rabble & our defence is easily the worst in the league, with the Hoff probably being our best defender ... what does that say??

Way too many cops there tonight ... they were looking to create trouble and spraying capsicum spray like a school kid let loose with a fire hydrant, seemed uncalled for.

What a shit night ... Thank you City

Marc Janko double for Sydney FC sinks Melbourne City

AAP

November 22, 2014

A MARC Janko brace tonight kept up Sydney FC’s fine start to the A-League season, sealing a 2-1 win over home side Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

From the outset, both teams showed their intent to attack but Sydney boasted the edge with Bernie Ibini and Janko upfront.

Janko’s first was a classic back-post header from Ibini’s cross after 10 minutes, with his second coming courtesy of a shocking Rob Wielaert error.

The Dutch centre-back gave Janko a perfect through-ball with seven minutes remaining, Janko making no mistake from the one-on-one chance.

Erik Paartalu’s late header set up more late drama for City but where Central Coast stole home with two late goals to draw 2-2 last week, City fell short.

With Ibini showing his best form in a sky blue shirt, Graham Arnold’s side exploited Melbourne City’s high defensive line time and again.

The first goal was a sucker punch — City’s obvious weakness exploited by a ruthless Sydney side.

Despite the early setback, City remained committed to their high defensive line and attacking outlook.

Coach John van ’t Schip’s attacking plans nearly brought reward just a minute later.

Damien Duff had a penalty claim waved away when he was brought down by Vedran Janjetovic as the pair jostled for a ball.

But if City were unlucky not to have their spot kick, FC would lament wasting a handful of top chances as they went down the race at half-time.

Ibini continued to threaten, while Janko’s decision to set up Alex Brosque rather than shoot himself was peculiar.

Two minutes later, a one-on-one expertly fashioned by Terry Antonis for Ali Abbas was well saved by Andrew Redmayne.

City burst out of the blocks in the second half, controlling possession Janko did his bit at the other end, clearing off the line from David Williams on 48 minutes when Janjetovic flapped at a cross.

With City’s surge at an end, Ibini’s sweeping pass nearly made another goal for Janko on 68 minutes, requiring a last-ditch intervention from Patrick Kisnorbo.

Ibini continued to torment Ramsay, but it was Wielaert who provided the knockout blow to the consternation of van ’t Schip.

Sydney’s defence was breached for the first time in more than 500 minutes when Paartalu headed in with three minutes left, but all the mad finish yielded was a red card to Milos Dimitrijevic for time-wasting.

Sydney FC maintain great start to A-League season with win over Melbourne City

DAVID DAVUTOVIC

NOVEMBER 22, 2014

COMICAL defending gifted Sydney FC a 2-1 win and a fourth win of the season, while Melbourne City is winless in four at AAMI Park.

An 88th minute Erik Paartalu header gave City brief hope but in the end a brace from Austrian beanpole Mark Janko was enough in a heated contest in front of 9474 fans.

While City’s Aaron Mooy returned from international duty and impressed, it was Sydney FC midfielder Terry Antonis who stole the headlines with a midfield clinic on the ground where the Socceroos open their Asian Cup account in 47 days time.

Marquee Janko was outstanding but Antonis, who turns 20 on Wednesday, had the type of performance that will ensure he not only makes the Asian Cup squad is a serious starting contender.

And aside from his stellar range of passing, he’s added penetrating runs and a harder edge to his game, cementing himself as a deep-lying midfielder of note.

City has technical quality but appears one paced and slow in transition and the imminent return of marquee attacker Robbie Koren can’t come quick enough, so too Socceroos striker Josh Kennedy’s arrival.

The killer second goal came with seven minutes of normal time left, when Rob Wielart’s woeful backpass went to Janko who headed to goal. Keeper Andrew Redmayne sat on his line and didn’t advance despite a heavy Janko touch, allowing him the easiest of finishes.

Sydney wasted little time getting into the game as Bernie Ibini broke down the right and sent in a beautiful deep cross and with Redmayne misjudging the flight, Janko was left with a simple header within 10 minutes.

Moments later Damien Duff looked like he should’ve had a penalty when he was upended by Vedran Janjetovic, but replays suggested the FC keeper had eyes fixed on the ball.

Janko got another splendid cross from the right, this time from Pedj Bojic, but sent his header crashing into the upright.

Giving away 23 centimetres to Janko, Mate Dugandzic then showed he’s no slouch in the air with a nice header from David Williams’ cross but Janjetovic was on hand to palm it away.

Comical City defending then opened the door for FC to double their lead before the break, but Redmayne pulled off good saves from Alex Brosque and Ali Abbas.

The frenetic end-to-end action continued to the end of the first half, with Duff having a good chance after Williams’ shot was saved.

City withdrew injury replacement signing Liam Miller at the break for Jacob Melling and the former Adelaide United midfielder added a spark.

Within minutes Williams almost equalised but Janko of all people was on hand to clear off the line.

But the pendulum slowly swung back Sydney’s way and only a handful of last-ditch Patrick Kisnorbo tackles stopped the visitors from doubling their lead.

And Redmayne then tipped Ibini’s 75th minute blast over the bar, before City coach John van’t Schip sent on teen striker Marc Marino as the final sub in search of an equaliser but his chance didn’t come until two more were scored.

Paartalu headed home Duff’s cross after Janko’s second and then Milos Dimitrijevic was expelled for a second bookable offence.

Marino got on the end of a long pass a minute into stoppage time but his shot was deflected for a corner.

That was it as Sydney successfully wound down the clock.

Also, Melburnians - the "we hate Sydney" chant gets old fast. Negative chants are boring. Megaphone too loud again.

I honestly believe this chant is no good. Not much creativity and something I feel your ten year old brother would use as an insult.

Agree, I don't like negative chants but if we are going to use them then they have to be funny.

Janko double brings down City

By Iain Strachan

22 November 2014

Sydney FC kept pace with their fellow A-League title contenders by beating Melbourne City 2-1 away from home on Saturday night.

A Marc Janko brace ensured the Sky Blues took all three points away from AAMI Park, where John van 't Schip's hosts struggled to break down the stubborn visitors until late in the contest.

Erik Paartalu's header and the sending off of Milos Dimitrijevic gave City hope in the closing stages, but they proved unable to snatch what would have been a dramatic equaliser.

Goals

0-1 (Marc Janko 10')

Bernie Ibini advanced down the right and swung in a deep, looping cross to the back post. Andrew Redmayne, perhaps misjudging the flight, failed to clear it and Janko got there before Patrick Kisnorbo to nod the ball home.

0-2 (Janko 83')

Wielaert's criminal attempt at a pass across his own back four gifted possession to Janko, leaving the Austrian free to waltz in on goal and slide the ball beyond Redmayne.

1-2 (Paartalu 88')

A short-corner routine saw Damien Duff float a cross into the danger zone and Paartalu's header looped beyond Vedran Janjetovic, ending the goalkeeper's streak of successive clean sheets at four matches.

Key moment

A minute after Sydney's opener Janjetovic appeared to obstruct Duff, the veteran winger going to ground inside the penalty area. Referee Kris Griffiths-Jones gave a foul against the Irishman, confounding those of a City persuasion. Had that decision gone the other way, it could have been a different game.

Opta Data key stats

City had more of the ball and registered more shots than the visitors, who demonstrated their doggedness and solidity by making 20 interceptions, 14 more than the home team.

Coach killer

Minutes after getting booked by channelling his inner Kevin Muscat, the Dutchman knocking a Sydney FC substitute off his garden chair in an attempt to retrieve the ball, Wielaert cost his team any hope of a point by serving up the ball for Janko on a silver platter.

Back to the drawing board

City had more of the ball (59.8 percent of possession) but were frequently caught on the counter in the first half, Janko hitting the post and Bernie Ibini sending in several dangerous crosses after exposing Iain Ramsay down Sydney's right.

The Sky Blues though were guilty of considerably profligacy in the opening 45 minutes, Janko and Abbas both wasting one-on-one opportunities.

If City want to play with the ball and force the issue against teams, they need to tighten up at the back and avoid being caught out.

Sydney meanwhile must be more ruthless if they are to turn their organised, hard-working foundations into consistent victories, because they won't receive gifts Wielaert's every week.

The Final Word

Sydney will visit Pirtek Stadium next weekend more confident of beating Western Sydney in their own back yard than they have since the very early days of the Wanderers' existence.

City meanwhile face a long trip to take on a Wellington Phoenix side who are likely to be out for revenge after successive narrow defeats away from home.

Teams

Melbourne City: Redmayne, Hoffman, Wielaert, Kisnorbo, Ramsay, Paartalu, Miller (Melling 46'), Mooy, Dugandzic (Marino 77'), Williams (Brown 66'), Duff.

Sydney FC: Janjetovic, Bojic, Ryall, Petkovic, Gersbach, Antonis, Abbas (Grant 68'), Dimitrijevic, Brosque, Ibini, Janko (Smeltz 94').

Scorers: Janko (10', 83'), Paartalu (88')

Red cards: Dimitrijevic (89', second yellow)

Yellow cards: Bojic (18'), Wielaert (78'), Dimitrijevic (70', 89')

Conditions: 30 degrees, dry

Attendance: 9, 474 @AAMI Park

What can we expect when our defensive line is WORSE than last season? The only difference is that we've lost Behich and brought in Ramsay who I feel sorry for - why is he being forced to humiliate himself by JvS every week?

Our attack is also similar to last season...Duff is the only addition to our forward line at the moment and he is continually devoid of support.

No question that JvS is being outcoached by every other manager in the league, but equally we are so obviously devoid of quality across our backline and attack. You have to question City's recruitment...signing players like Duff, Williams, Paartalu and Mooy who take up so much salary cap space that we need to balance them out with awful signings like Brown.

City remind me of the team on football manager that you're delighted to see when you're having a bad run - the guaranteed win. How hard can it be? Simply switch the ball repeatedly to Ramsay's flank and you'll grab a couple of goals.
