says he is in squad for sunday , has he played this season for BR ? if not a not match fit defensive midlfielder is not what the club needs ! what he has done in past is irrelevant BR let him go ,wonder why ?

apparently started one game and came off the bench for another.  imagine with the fall out he had with Mulvey that Miller's issue wasn't fitness

which does raise a question around if he'll be a good fit personality wise

on closer inspection, I have read that he is a short term

Miller, 33, will be eligible for selection under Football Federation Australia’s National Team Replacement Player rule.

so only a couple of weeks

Fills a need for a brief period, and doesn't take up a spot in the squad. Seems sensible to me.

Exactly. In one thread we're worrying about who's going to be in the midfield for us on Sunday. Now, we have signed a midfielder (strictly as a national team replacement signing) that has extensive experience in Europe, the A-League and in a pretty decent national squad and people still aren't happy? FFS, would you rather have Miller, or someone like Kalmar starting for us on Sunday? His age is irrelevant. He'll probably be here for three weeks, not three years.

NEWS: Melbourne City FC Sign Liam Miller On Short-Term Contract

Tuesday, 11 November 2014

Melbourne City FC can announce that Liam Miller will join the Club on a short-term contract and will be available for selection for this Sunday’s Hyundai A-League match against the Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park.

Miller, 33, will be eligible for selection under Football Federation Australia’s National Team Replacement Player rule.

Miller trained with Melbourne City FC this morning and will be in John van't Schip's calculations for this week's match against the Mariners.

Melbourne City FC midfielders Aaron Mooy (Socceroos) and Stefan Mauk (Olyroos) will be unavailable for this Sunday’s match through national team duties, while Robert Koren (calf), Jonatan Germano (hamstring) and Massimo Murdocca (groin) remain sidelined through injury.

Hear, hear. Look at the circumstances. Five of our midfielders are unavailable - Mooy and Mauk on international duty, and Koren, Germano and Murdocca are injured.

He will be here for 2-3 weeks initially, and then possibly as an injury replacement. for a bit longer. And he's fit and ready to go.

FFS, people on here are getting a bit choosey - a couple of seasons ago we wouldn't have dreamed that players such as Villa, Duff, Koren, Mooy, Kennedy and now Miller would even look at this club let alone pull on our shirt.

Good signing on a short-term deal. And that's all it is, he's an injury replacement player (probably for Koren).

As the club's announcement above fairly clearly suggests, we are short on mids with our first 4-5 choice midfielders in Koren, Mooy, Mauk, Germano and maybe Murdocca out. Koren, Mooy and Mauk could miss 1 whole month of football (Koren could be out a bit longer). So this short term deal makes sense.

People have been calling for the club to not leave spots free, and to be more pro-active when it comes to recruitment. Well, this is probably the best short term signing that the club could make with very little money, an A-League proven player who can come in immediately and do a job.

There's not much downside. Miller is a good player at A-League level who can do a job, and he only left Roar due to a falling out over him playing in the NYL (and perhaps the bad  atmosphere in general at Roar, where all their personnel seem to be going off at one another). Miller will be a handy signing for a couple of weeks, and once the other mids (Mooy, Koren, Mauk) get back he can be phased out. So a good signing.

Proven A-League quality player, in as a replacement, so we'll get to see how he goes. Can probably keep him on a bit longer as an injury replacement, can even sign him if all goes well as we have a spare visa spot I believe. Nothing to complain about here.

Thank fuck we don't have to entertain starting Kalmar now.

I remember seeing this guy score against Lyon at some ungodly hour whilst back at Uni in Perth and thinking Celtic had discovered another possible superstar.

Alas it was not to be but it will still be good for Braveheart, Bannon, myself and a few other Celts to see a player who has worn the Hoops at such a level playing for our local side this Sunday.

very hard to fault this - exactly what we need for the time being - and lets not kid ourselves as he had obvious issues at the Roar this campaign, if all goes well he is more than good enough to be on our list full-time.

How many games is he available for exactly? Can we move him into a permanent position?
