Honestly cant see how this bloke scores more than 6 or 7 goals next season. Another questionable signing

Waiting for people to say it's because of the service. Because our midfield is rubbish  .

Probably because that's exactly the problem. When we've got the service into him in the home games he has looked dangerous. Away from home isolated up front he has looked rubbish. But any striker in that position would.

Terra, Babalj, Tadic, Maicon, Mifsud-well maybe not Mifsud- all got shit service.

The common link: JVS or JVS's legacy that JA though he'd continue.

Yeah, maybe, but knowing that history and our style of play IMO it's still fair to question Kennedy's signing as a marquee player - although it's not our money of course - and whether we would have been better off signing a younger player with a higher work-rate and who didn't rely so much on "service" from others. Basically Kennedy's an aerial specialist who doesn't offer any flexibility.

But any striker in that position would. Of course it's been woeful service. How often over the last 3 games has JK had the ball played at his feet? That game against CCM I lost count the amount of balls that were hoofed from defense to his head expecting something to happen. Every attacking play that goes through him is arial. That's not his fault, that's the rest of the players. And they are being instructed by JVS. I saw in his first game when the ball is playe to his feet around or inside the penalty area he has enough skill to make something happen. But he just isn't being given enough opportunity to do so.

If we had Marino on the bench to come on for Kennedy for the last 20 minutes of the game, and a decent coach he wouldn't look so bad.

We all knew when we signed him he wasn't going to be running out 90 minute games for us. We're just that starved of forward options we have no choice but to play him for the full 90

I am a long way from writing him off. His fitness is still an issue and we've been light on wingers since he came in (& anyone expecting Mooy to play him in clearly hasn't been watching this year). His track record speaks for itself, so fully fit I don't see why he can't get 13 goals or more in a season.

27 goals in 9 years in Europe lol.

He was very low on match form coming to us. I don't think we can properly assess him yet.
The other thing is there are only so many marque options. Young players on their way up are going to go to Europe. So we either take a younger player who isn't going to make it in Europe or someone older who's played in Europe and is now on the decline.

Mooy could have been a marquee player and then we could have had more quality under the cap. You don't have to have a player on the decline as your marquee. Provided FFA approve the appellation of "marquee" to your nominated player (and are they known to have ever refused anyone?) then it's just a device to raise the overall quality of your squad.

mooy was aus marquee for 1st half of the season so that would of helped the cap

even without any kind of backup on the bench he struggles to even run out a half, ridiculous to waste a marquee spot on someone that could break down so easily

I think what is definite is JVS signed these players, it was his choice. So if they don't work out its his fault. This is where I want the first change to be the manager because I beleive we have enough proven takent out there to be doing much much better. Once the new manager comes in, if those players that JVS signed don't fit the bill then I'll be happy to get rid of them.

A good craftsmen never blames his tools. Especially when he's chosen the fucking things.

Absolutely. As you were posting I was making a similar comment in the Koren thread!

I am not entirely sure that any coach has a total say in his squad. Certainly from an AFL perspective the coach never has a full run of things because management has to be concerned through budgets. And I seem to recall that at Carlton Justin Madden got an extra year because he made John Elliot's daughter laugh.

So all the coaches (in plural) will have an input as well as director of football. What ever the case, the coach does carry the can for the collective decisions taken.

Well this was the tipping point for me regarding JVS. Months ago I wasn't sure whether JVS was right for the job, even though many had already been calling him out for quite some time. For me it rested on JVS control over player choices and recruitment. I found out through Davutovic that JVS is head of recruitment for Melbourne City which was enough for me to decide that he's not for the job. To his credit I think JVS has brought in quite a number of very good players this year, but now there are no excuses as to why the results aren't in our favour. I agree other people at the club, particularly Didulica, also have a strong input into these matters. But I, like many others call him out to be accountable and to be scrutinised for many of our players selections in the past.

Funny how every season 90% of our players are shit and need to be sacked, then when they move on they suddenly improve ie. Thompson, Beauchamp, Kalmar.

How about instead of turning our list over completely every season we start putting the blame on the common denominators?

Still not sure how he fits in the team, He's a good threat from the header but that's an increasingly outdated way of playing and we don't have the wingers to provide that kind of service anyway

Agreed on this point. Perhaps a pre-season is required for JK to be fully integrated into the team by a coach that has a clear idea on the way players play to one another. In the first half I saw some discordance between players not knowing where to go, not having the vision to pass to one another.

The more I see of him the more of a fan I'm becoming. He's not fast but has good positioning and good technique and should be used as more than just a target man. He does need support though, there are rarely players running off him to achieve the ball. I hope that he isn't occupying the Germano couch for too long

TBH I thought he was a complete passenger last night. Together with Dugandzic might as well have not been on the pitch.

Doesn't work hard enough, he's not ADP who can walk around the pitch for 90 minutes and still have a massive effect on the game. If we can get marino healthy, would start him in front of jesus

Needs support to fully get the best out of him.

We need to be quicker with our pass and movement and have players running off him. He's fantastic at positioning himself right and controlling the play with his back towards goal. Needs support in person and in structure.

Said it a few times but formation needs to change.

He's a very good a league player.

IIRC it was Kennedy's tackle that had the ball delivered to Koren who then passed it to Novillo who scored. So not quite an assist but as good as an assist. yet no credit on this forum...

I'll bet that if Iain Ramsay made a tackle that delivered to the ball to someone who then passed it to someone else who scored...the suggestion that somehow Ramsay had "assisted" would be ridiculed.

very true. The way I see it is that these forums help people vent their spleen and then some.

Kennedy was substituted for David Williams in the 54th minute and a scan on Monday revealed the towering front man had injured a hip rotator muscle.

The injury leaves Kennedy doubtful for Melbourne City FC's Round 22 clash against Sydney FC, but the striker could return for the following match against Brisbane Roar at AAMI Park.

Everyone on this forum saw this coming expect the club. Useless. Sack them all. Don't they ever learn from their previous mistakes. WTF!!!

Saw what coming? An injury which has left him 'doubtful' for this week, but a chance to return for Brisbane? If it was anyone else in the squad, Germano aside, it would barely rate a mention. If one week turns into two and two turns into three, then fine, play the 'damaged goods' card. Until then, it seems like a mountain out of a molehill.

I think Heart of Melbourne has a point, even though it's perhaps a little over dramatic. Kennedy was rested appropriately last week only to have a minor break down during Saturday's game. I hope I'm wrong but to me its a sign that his body is still problematic, even with three months of training and game time, and its most likely a matter of time until he has another injury.
