Harry Kewell

This is fucked. But it's not all that fucked. I rolled an ankle playing football once and had some ligament damage and swelling. It was just badly sprained I think, nothing broken. But I couldn't walk on it for a few days and took I suppose 2 or 3 weeks to mend. Maybe a little more even, can't remember exactly.

But we don't need to lose our shit just yet. He's done a pre-season. He's missed 3 weeks. Say he misses 3 more. In that case, there will be another 20 rounds left. Where he can get back to pulling hamstrings etc. (Just kidding.) In the meantime, a couple of rounds of golf would be good therapy for his ankle once it can handle it.

Kalmar should be ready for some decent game time, so that should at least strengthen the squad from last week.

I'm not into conspiracy theories. I don't see any reason to doubt the whiplash or whatever - I'm not a doctor. Or that the club would be cautious in giving him an extra week - he'd only just returned to training last week. Or that he just simply rolled an ankle at training and will miss another 2 or 3 weeks. I think that's all there is to it.

What about the "private matters cleared up" quote. That makes it pretty obvious that there is something not quite right.

Did some digging yesterday, and from what I was told Harry did a soft tissue injury during the derby.

The 'whiplash' story was concocted so he wouldn't have to put up with same old questions about age, fitness etc that were gonna be asked so they decided a cover story was better.

Kewell: The Walking Injury

Like clockwork, Harry Kewell’s commitment to becoming injured has prevailed yet again, with the most fragile man in football injuring himself a good 15 minutes after returning from injury. Having already missed the last four weeks of football, Medicare’s finest Harry Kewell returned to his first training session, only to be injured within minutes after being struck by a heavy wind gust. Let’s face the facts, Harry Kewell is the most fragile human being in existence. If you stare at Harry hard enough, something will break. He shouldn’t be kept in the midfield, he should be kept in a bubble. I don’t know how Harry Kewell signed a contract with Heart. No, I mean, physically, I don’t know how Harry signed a contract without a triple wrist fracture occurring. When he goes to see Johnny Knoxville’s Bad Grandpa, in cinemas November 14, there is a strong likelihood that he’ll break his funny-bone. And his pelvis. Which brings me to James McPeake. James is Wellington Phoenix’s fourth choice goalkeeper. He only gets a bench spot when fellow goalies Glenn Moss and Jacob Spoonley get called up for All Whites duty. So here is this season’s challenge: Can James McPeake get more minutes on the pitch than Harry Kewell this season? Even with Kewell having a 68 minute handicap on McPeake, my money is on the the young goalie prevailing, mainly because, unlike Kewell, he doesn’t have bones as brittle as shortbread

At the start of the season I wasn't against the Kewell signing. At the moment IMO he's just one of a number of players who need to be told that they are professional footballers and are paid to play, and that they need to get themselves fit and ready to do so. The club offers all the facilities in terms of medical, physiotherapy, and daily training, and I'm sure has programmes for individual players (if it doesn't it needs to). But I'm beginning to wonder if there are some players who are just milking the system and don't really want to play.

Contrast Aziz. Poor bugger runs himself into the turf week after week, cops an knock or a strain pretty much every game, but gets himself back and ready to go again every time.

HK was brought into the club through his friendship with JA. How will that pan out if JA quits or is sacked?

He's hardly in a great position to be in really with the mess that is currently going on, not just at MH but also in the national team space.

To me, HK lost all motivation the morning before the derby, with events that transpired in Paris. Ever since, he just seems disinterested in the cause, the game and anything remotely not golf related :)

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if he comes back.

7 months is a pretty short time to prove you're worthy of a spot in the Socceroos squad when you're barely even considered a fringe player now, especially in light of how little game time Kewell has played.

Would love him to return for us but fuck, this season feels beyond dead and buried already so I don't really care anymore!

Well the only thing is he cost us pretty much nothing and if he leaves we have a player slot open and the new manager can fill it when the window opens again.

The window's still open isn't it?

I think Sydney signed some Serbian bloke just the other day.

Looking across the squad, theres so many on their final year of contracts. I would have thought players would have been even more motivated to succeed, but not at MH obviously.

I would love for someone to come out at the club and say the TRUTH about HK and what is ACTUALLY happening at the club full stop.

Yeah they did. I don't know. I can't say I've paid much attention. I just assumed :/

Isn't the window open throughout the season if a player is uncontracted?

That's what I thought, as long as there's no transfer involved.

Although the transfer rules in the A-League have always been a little sketchy.

That's my understanding, and aleague clubs can't charge transfers to each other either?

got a good feeling that he will not return.

what a waste of a player slot.

48k was a good decision though, credit's due for that.

Time to cut Germano and bring in in a decent foreign playmaker me thinks.

yes but there's no more money from the Board for player recruitment so unless we find someone who wants to play for free...
