Can you please turn up, it looked ridiculous having all those empty seats on the eastern side Although when you tried to buy a ticket at Ticketek it said Premium A and B tickets were exhausted, this was never the case. Early games in the year, club keeps A and B seats reserved in case people want to buy memberships rather than selling them a one game ticket for that single match. Obviously they want to cash in on the Villa interest still, but whether or not that will translate into sustained interest after the first home game has come and gone will be the big question. To get 15.7K to the first game seems to indicate that many were there to see him and got into the hype, but they got to see a goal from Villa but not a win for the club so it will depend just how good they thought the product was. Those around me didn't know any of our players eg: "Gee that guy is quick"-talking about David Williams. So I think we had a quite a few first timers, casuals. Will they be back? RedAndWhitePride Posted October 20, 2014 Report Share Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) One major positive yesterday (imo) as compared to say the old Heart days when we used to shoot ourselves in the foot in front of a bigger non-derby crowd, was that the overall atmosphere was much better due to the top deck being opened, so therefore I honestly believe it would have given any casuals a more positive outlook on the experience despite the result. That, and as has been said, Villa scoring would have helped too. Also, don't forget we have nearly 10k members now, as well as the active area being much bigger this season, so things are clearly on the up. Now, we just need to start winning some fucking games. Last year I could rock up right on kick off with a group of 6 or so blokes and find seats behind the active support. This year I rock up 15 minutes before kick off and can't find a group of 3 seats together, except for right up the back of the corner. It's 5 years of building a solid fanbase around a shitty team and staying loyal to it so don't trivialise the time and money spent by others over the years to make it look like Melbourne City grew from nothing in a few months. I reckon we got an extra few hundred members on the back end of a good/ exciting finish to the game with Villa producing the goods. We may have 10k this year, but most of that is based on new owner hype and the Villa boost. Without that, unless they have tricks up their sleeves (ie. more big name loan/guest), I can't see many staying on without some confidence building this season. They have probably spent most of the day taking calls from frustrated members. The last couple of days have not been great for us really, with a lot of momentum lost from that hype that was still there for us. When we look at what is left from all these big signings, Duff, Mooy and Partaalu are about all that there is anything to be excited about. With Koren's injury, Villa's pending departure and even Chapman's illness, the squad looks less exciting by the minute, with a tinge of concern about what we have left.
