I hope I am forgiven for saying this, but clearly there are some stupid people at the club who have no idea about football.

There will be no room for some new good players if we just re-sign these hacks.

Bottom four written all over us for next season already.

This is just my opinion...

Player - New Contract Length

Kalmar - Two Years: He will never be a superstar of the league, but what he will provide is a serviceable midfielder who will be relatively cheap. He has also shown a remarkable improvement this season compared to past campaigns.

Josip Tadic - Two Years: Has proven in patches what he's capable of, i believe that he never reached his full potential and that he'd be able to hit double digits if given another season or two.

Garcia - One Year: A class player, but we will need to be able to provide quality players in and around him. I only say one year as i don't believe Garcia would sign a two year deal at this stage.

Mate Dugandzic - One Year: We all know what he's capable of. Coming off a significant injury, we don't know exactly how he'll be post-recovery so a longer term contract with a possible extension based on performances in the first half of the season.

Jonatan Germano - One Year: I believe he'll be able to shake off his inconsistency and become a prominent player for us. We've seen the quality of football that he can bring, and he didn't have a great start to the season with a lengthy injury which was quite a hindrance to his preseason and subsequently missing a fair few games at the start of the season.

Scrap the rest.

This would leave two VISA spots with Fred being released. I feel as a club that we should be trying to lockdown international players for a longer period of time rather than having them for a season or two. It looks to be another offseason of large turnover, we shouldn't be signing players on a  season by season approach. We need a multiple year plan and try and keep the core of the squad together rather than new key players every year.

His performance this year certainly warrants a pay rise in my opinion. Having said that, i don't know what he is currently on. I also believe he has the attributes and the attitude to take over as captain. With over 200 matches in Europe and several caps for Australia, he would be an ideal candidate for captain and provide inspiration and direction for the younger players such as Walker, Mitchinson, Vrankovic and so on...

Thought Hoffman would've been told of his impending departure a while ago and would've been signed up by a VPL or NSWPL team already. The fact this hasn't happened is quite worrying. I don't think I can take another season of his dismal attempts of being a footballer, I'll be sending my psychiatrist bills directly to Heart HQ if he's given a contract extension.

There are a lot of players that need to go. J.Kosmina and Miron said it clearly and that is.. The 4 visa players are critical signings and these players need to perform week in week out and provide Goals, Assists, creativity and leadership and in that regard I would only keep P. Gehart as far as the local players a massive clean out needed and 1 criteria on top of the list when recruiting player is Mental Strength...

But we're not going to see it by the looks of things.

The Board is sending completely contradictory messages - 'loosening the purse strings' on the one hand and then we are apparently re-signing proven non-performers.

My earlier post showed that we have 10 players already contracted for next season. If the rumoured re-signings come to pass, that number will be up to 14. Leaving 9 places if we sign the full complement of 23 players for the senior squad. But my worry now is how many of those 9 places are we going to fill with decent, new players who are going to give us a chance of challenging for the title.

Get the signings wrong and it won't be a lucky 9th. next season. It will be last. Could someone please help me understand on what basis Jason Hoffman is a required player for next season?

Would Brisbane sign him? Would Central Coast sign him?   Would the Wanderers sign him? Would Victory sign him? Would Perth Glory sign him?

I'm just despondent about the whole club right now for a variety of reasons.

jw1739 sums it up well. List Management is deplorable. We have a chance to re energize the whole club by signing a whole lot of new players who will give their all for the club but it seems the club haven't got the slightest idea.

In the Football Department as in the Admin Department, the club have lost the plot.

I agree with the club losing the plot. There is nothing coming out of the club for us fans to cling on, I can only assume that the club is talking and listening to a small minority of Heart supporters that agree with what the heart is doing or lack there of... The representative group for me is to quite and are not communicating with the wider supporter base.. It looks like they got this wrong too...

Email to members:

Bolton. Thompson. Fred. Colosimo.

We have had to make some difficult decisions around a group of players who have been wonderful players for Melbourne Heart.

For Melbourne Heart FC fans, these four have become household names. With 253 matches between them, they have each made a significant contribution to the club at different times.

I was a foundation player of the Club and I know first-hand how hard Simon (as our inaugural captain), Matt and Clint worked to bring the club to life with their performances and their work off the field.

Fred has also been a great captain for the past two seasons and pushed himself to the limit every training session and every match.

As members, you would have witnessed their passion and commitment to this team and enjoyed their performances over the years. I know I speak on behalf of the Club in saying that we will always be thankful to them for committing and giving so much to Melbourne Heart.

We are also pleased to announce a number of re-signings ahead of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League Season.

Mate Dugandzic, Jonatan Germano, Nick Kalmar and Sam Mitchinson have all agreed to extend their time with the Heart while the Club is also delighted to announce that 25-year-old Iain Ramsay will join the Club from Adelaide United, a player I know will fit right into the club’s system.

We have a very talented group of younger players who are growing together, with the current average age of the players we have signed up for next season being just over 22 whilst we will now continuing scouting the globe to ensure we can bring the available international players to the club.

The Club continues to negotiate with a number of players who are coming out of contract, including Richard Garcia and Jason Hoffman, and is hopeful of retaining them for next season and beyond. The Club also remains in discussions with Clint Bolton about extending his tenure with the Club in a non-playing capacity.

Players Signed for 2013/14 (15): Eli Babalj, Mate Dugandzic, Ben Garuccio, Patrick Gerhardt, Jonatan Germano, Nick Kalmar, Dylan Macallister, Stefan Mauk, Golgol Mebrahtu, Sam Mitchinson, Iain Ramsay, Andrew Redmayne, David Vrankovic, Jeremy Walker, David Williams

So glad Thomo, Fred and Shime are gone, that frees up over 700k, and almost 1m when you include Bolton. And good to see that Bolton could stay at the club in an off-field roll.

Must sign Garcia now, whatever it takes really.

Also, did anyone notice no mention of Tadic...? (edit: I can only assume he is part of the group who is still in negotiations...?)

Melbourne Heart FC is pleased to announce a number of re-signings ahead of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League Season.

Mate Dugandzic, Jonatan Germano, Nick Kalmar and Sam Mitchinson have all agreed to extend their time with the Heart while the Club is also delighted to announce that 25-year-old Iain Ramsay will join the Club from Adelaide United.

The Club also confirms that Simon Colosimo, Matt Thompson, Fred and Clint Bolton will not be offered new contracts when their agreements expire on April 30.

The Club has also released mid-season signings Marcel Meeuwis, Jamie Coyne and Cameron Edwards.

Heart Head Coach John Aloisi is excited at the addition of Ramsay and securing a key clutch of important talent.

“We have a very talented group of younger players who are growing together and Iain will compliment them well,” Aloisi said.

“He has great qualities as a footballer and as a competitor. He is hungry to succeed and will really add an important dimension and depth down the flanks, which we probably lost when Aziz [behich] and Michael [Marrone] left.

“We have also had to make some difficult decisions around a group of players who have been wonderful contributors to Melbourne Heart.

“I was a foundation player of the Club and I know first-hand how hard Simon [Colosimo], Matt [Thompson] and Clint [bolton] worked to bring the club to life with their performances and their work off the field.

“Fred has also been a great captain for the past two seasons and pushed himself to the limit every training session and every match.

“I know I speak on behalf of all the Club’s staff and members that we will always be thankful for their contribution.”

Ffs why are we keeping D-Mac. Why are we negotiating with Hoffman.

Signed for two years, no point paying out his contract really.

Rather well handled by the club really a nice send off.

And in a moment of brilliance from myself, my next article for my blog was going to involve the signing of Iain Ramsay :D

Ummm Josip and Germano?

also not sure about Kalamr...

VISA spots could be put to better use.

Kalmar was easily one of our best players this season.

well last time i checked Josip was one of the best in the league, even with a supply line which includes Roffman and Thompson.

Not sure about the other 2 TBH.

Germano is on minimum wage which should be considered, but i think that we could find better also.

Kalmar is very inconsistent. at his best hes MOTM and at his worst hes subbed off at 60'.

Tadic may get below average service from time to time but from watching him in the games this season he bluntly looks very flat footed. Far too many times Tadic got caught out and lost a 50/50 ball by simply being too slow / not physical enough against the defender over his shoulder. How many times do you see Berisha or McBreen beaten like that?

You're quite right about Kalmar in that he can be inconsistent. That being said, how many players this season weren't inconsistent? From the glimpses Kalmar is one to work on. Same as Mebrathu, same as Vrankovic. It would be good to see Kalmar with more to work off.

Hoffman has to go. Seems a good kid, just not an A League standard player.

What I'd love to see for next season is the club to sign a proper out and out lead striker (ie Breisha, Heskey), a calming older influencing Centreback (ie Madaschi, Zwaarnzijk) and a couple of really solid, up and coming Centrebacks (similar to both ex Heart players Good and Hamill).

Ultimately I think Gerhardt would play brilliantly / do wonders as the holding midfielder but has to play in the backline since there is no-one else. Honestly I think he would be better for us if he could, which is sad since the team really needed someone there this season gone. If the team could get that Madaschi / Zwaanzijk like character at the back then Gerhardt would be right to step forward.

Why and how Macallister and Hoffman got contracts for next season is beyond me.. Crazy stuff..

As far as I know Hoffman staying on hasn't been confirmed anywhere and D-Mac signed a two-year deal at the start of 2012-13 so he was always gonna be here next year.

That is my interpretation too.

I hope the club will soon give members an up-date on the situation with the remaining players coming out of contract in just a few days. I'd rather not rely on Twitter and Facebook for authoritative news.

Just saw this on the Heart website

Inaugural Melbourne Heart FC player Jason Hoffman and number one goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne have penned new deals with the Club.

Hoffman will enter his fourth year with the Red and White after signing a one-year deal, while Redmayne has agreed to a two-year contract extension which will see him remain at the Club until 2015/16.

Redmayne, 24, initially signed a two-year deal with Heart before his debut campaign with the Red and White last season, but renegotiated an extension with the Club, which saw him sign a fresh three-year contract.

“It’s fantastic; it has been a good week with the boys back in training and I’m very happy to commit to a long-term deal,” Redmayne said.

“The Club has been excellent in my development and this contract gives me motivation and focus to improve on last season.”

Redmayne played 13 matches for Heart last season, after Head Coach John Aloisi promoted him to first team goalkeeper in January and he quickly illustrated his potential with a number of standout performances.

Hoffman, also 24, has been a regular fixture in Heart’s squad in its three campaigns and continues to be one of the Club’s most committed and outstanding professionals.

Hoffman was signed in 2010 as a member of the Club’s inaugural squad and has made 44 appearances over the Heart’s past three seasons.

“I’m really proud to renew my contract here at the Heart,” Hoffman said.

“I’ve obviously been here since day one along with John Aloisi, so I’m definitely looking forward to the season ahead and trying to take a bit of leadership on this year to make sure we finish in the Finals Series.”

Heart Head Coach John Aloisi said the dedication and commitment demonstrated by the pair meant they were deserving of extended deals.

“Andrew and Hoffy have been fantastic role models for the Club and their work ethic, week in, week out, has been excellent,” Aloisi said.

“We are looking forward to both of them continuing their development and expect big things from both of them this season.”

Happy that Redder's contract has been extended but Hoffman's contract being re-signed after his performance last season is questionable
