James Meredith for left back? Not sure what his contract status with Bradford is but not a bad age and i'm sure he'd be able to do a serviceable job...not sure how he is getting up the field

yes would take

But im pretty sure he has rejected A-league offers before and says he prefers england

pretty sure we tried to sign him last season but he rejected the offer and said maybe he would consider the a-league in his mid 30s

Would love him at the club but don't need that type of attitude

We've barely got enough fit players for a squad to face Manchester City and Edgeworth at the moment unless we call on some of our NPL players. Going on what we're hearing from the club (almost nothing) our recruiting seems to have pretty well dried up. IIRC most European transfer windows are open and ours is open until 31st July so we ought to be getting a move on especially with the remaining visa players.

Just keeping things quiet and preparing for the doubling with memberships that the announcement of Carlton Cole will bring.

Could do with his passing skills. His through ball to Defoe in 2009 was exquisite!

Unfortunately for him, by that stage Defoe was playing for Tottenham.

As it stands we barely have a defense. Our back for would probably be Franjic Kisnorbo Chapman Clisby. And only Hoffman as depth. No centre backs or left backs at all, even Garuccio who can play there but is a natural winger is injured. If Chapman or Kisnorbo cop an injury we're in big trouble

The problem that I see, with the central defenders at least, is that we'd be pretty committed to starting the season with Chapman and Kisnorbo there. So the only option that I can see is to get a Safuwan or Jaliens type (or a couple) that can play a variety of roles, to provide the depth at centre back. Preferably someone who's also good enough to start at left back.

Yeah and that player should be Clisby. Sign a (preferably visa) left back and then have clisby on the bench who can play centre back or left back

lol, at best he would be a first 11 A-League player right now, not anything special, in his mid 30s he wouldn't get a game.

We're apparently trialling Lambadaridis and Trifuro, and possibly chasing Maclaren, but in general that list shows why the A-League is where it is.

Over the past 5 weeks the club has announced one signing every week, except for the week that Redmayne's departure was announced. So I'm pretty sure we'll hear something next week.

The CBA negotiations grinding to a halt must have slowed down Melbourne City's, and all other A-League clubs', recruitment, at least somewhat. As it was reported last week "Clubs are growing increasingly frustrated about the lack of clarity, particularly as they set about shaping their playing lists for next season" and "Melbourne City had to sign Ivan Franjic to the terms and conditions set out in last season’s contracts" (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/a-league-collective-bargaining-agreement-talks-could-result-in-melbourne-victory-re-signing-archie-thompson/story-fni2wcjl-1227411668544).

On Clisby, over his senior career he's played CB more than LB. He's more than capable of filling in at LB, but it's the centre-back position where Clisby won the WA's best state league player award before joining Perth Glory (where he played as both a centre-back and a LB).

Agree about the slim pickings with Australian A-League free agents. Which is why I'm pretty pleased with the Australian players we've signed, Franjic, Gameiro, Kuzmanovski, as I reckon they are in the first rank of Aussie players available.

If the club can keep on signing the very best Australian players, and in particular the very best young Australian players, then Melbourne City could establish itself as the main destination for up-and-coming Aussie players. And that would pay off dividends for years to come, well beyond the value of the particular players we sign this pre-season.

He didn't want to come here from the start.

Why the fuck would a youngster not want to come to a club in the same league with a direct link to an EPL side....? Not to mention the facilities...

Also, why the fuck would any player transfer to a team that has been publicised of recent as having financial troubles...?
