MHFC vs WSW 16/3 aka We're having a party

Wsw is what melbourne heart should have been on and off the field. They had a clear vision for recruiting fans and players, we had no vision on recruiting fans, and player recruitment has changed completely over the last 3 years. We started off with targeting talented youngsters who would make up the majority of the squad to targeting a league duds like dmac, coyne, gol gol (who hasn't shown anything on a consistent bases to be deemed a success).

We are not Sydney's West... There was no clear area of football nuts crying out for A-League recognition, which in itself is a good chunk of why WSW has been so successful with it's fans.

Where they really have thrived is how engaging the club/players etc has been with those fans.

As for the recruitment. You can't always have the best of the best, especially if you've already sold them off and are awaiting the next crop... And we can't just fill the gaps with our youth team, because then if the youth aren't good enough you will see us lose every game by goals galore and there will be even less fans.

Club needs some work... We all know this. Time to stop the blame game and start the noise game and fucking bring it on saturday, and maybe, just maybe, our band of merry men can do something special for us in return.

What we do have over most teams, particularly WSW, is that we started from nothing and have continued with no assistance.

Had the club shown more foresight we could have. There is a town an hour away full of football fans that both Victory and Heart have neglected. Geelong is craving for a team.

The A-League was stupid not to look closer at Geelong when they looked for a second Melbourne team and we are even bigger idiots for neglecting a city so big with fans that would travel.

Western Sydney has a population of around 2.5 million people.

Geelong has 185,000.

0 people from Geelong lobbied to be the second Melbourne team, 3 groups from Melbourne did.

JVS was given a great budget for Season One and with the exception of Ono one that was better than what WSW had at its disposal,

Imagine if he had spent it properly and we had won more games than we lost in Season One?

Imagine if he was not a glorified Youth Coach?

Dont you recall how we were predicted to make finals in Season One before we had kicked a ball?

These posts are dumb - are you saying that you don't want to support the Heart anymore and that the Heart shouldn't exist? Are you with us or against us buddy?

This is also not the thread to be discussing this sort of stuff. THere's about 100 expansion/ Heart marketing threads for it.

Anyway i'm quietly optimistic about this game. We can still do it boys, chins up!

No way, Heart man through and through, but just suggesting it should have been an avenue looked at. I think more-so Heart should spend more time down here and even playing a low drawing team down here in the future.

I know there is a difference between the sizes in population, but if we can get on board 5,000-8,000 people from Geelong every week our attendance almost double.

But back on topic. Heart to win 1-0.......

Considering the first time we played WSW we gifted them an own-goal and the second time we missed a penalty only to cop one late in the match - we're not too far away from these guys!

With a cool 22 degrees forcasted for Saturday arvo, I think we'll play our usual home-game-attacking-style and put the new kids on the Bloc back in their place!  :D

GO

What about possibly playing 1 maybe 2 home games at geelong each year? To expand our brand and gain more support. After time you would get a contingent of Geelong people travelling to Melbourne to watch heart. They don't mind coming to watch the cats. Thoughts? Or just stupid?

Raised so many times before in so many threads. Forget it. The regional games experiment by FFA just does not work. It's hard enough to get a second club going in Melbourne with nearly 4m people.

could get more $$ playing there and more fans but then if it goes too well, then we could get moved even though its highly unlikely.

I like the idea.

the reactions from most people though would be horrendous. especially since we bag out the visitors because they always play in hobart.

We used to have a nice spread of Socceroos in our squad, and while this is probably adventagious to us, it to me shows how much of a backwards step we have taken.

To not have one is disapointing in my opinion, but I don't think Babalj or Garcia deserve a call up right now. So fair enough.

Anyway full squad including two important pieces in Gerhardt and Germano, we are every chance here and hopefully the boys come to play.

I will be there ready to lose my voice again and stand with the Yarraside as we show the RBB what we are about.

I would say that is more likely the quality of the competition the Socceroos are facing...

Twitter reports that there will be an official player announcement from the Club tomorrow morning. Bolton's retirement? New signing?

could be because of the twitter message i sent bolton..

Get a feeling its going to be Fred announcing his retirement. Anybody think its weird that this guy is our captain, and yet on a contract year we haven'e heard one word about him wanting to stay or go?

I think after his last injury he may have told the board he was retiring.

Please something like this;

Redmayne

Walker   Gerhardt    Vrankovic   Thompson

Garcia   Meeuwis    Kalmar

Mebrathu  Tadic   Williams

That front three could be formidable and seeing the seasons over might as well try something different

p.s. Coyne is just the worst

what id like to see. Start Gol Gol! Garcia central FFS! No Fred, Thompson or Colosimo. Some Yoof on the bench getting a chance would be nice.
