  1. Not sure I agree with the narrative developing that our visas failed, or aren't good enough or even should be axed immediately. For me this season was the first I can remember all of them actually contributed noticeably, okay not so much in the grannie but overall, and because I'm talking about overall the entirety of the season then I would say all of them minus Susaeta all helped the team make the grannie and finish clearly the second best team in the league. Individually I think everyone's expectations are skewed, but that's opinions. As a follow up you need to look at the oppositions visas and see they really didn't do a huge amount in the final either. I felt Berenguer and Luna were below but they were also had defensive roles on Ninkovic, and Noone was battling Grant, which maybe Grant won in stoppage time, but overall I think all these blokes should do another season.

  2. I'm actually really pissed off about this one. Atkinson was turning into very good player

  3. This. Luna, Windy and Noone are all contracted anyway. I'm happy to resign Susa as marquee if available, but if not we take the best possible available option in either the 10 or wing role. If that's Susa or another winger, then we keep Florin, if we can get him to stay on a modest deal (imo he's worth it at 200-250k), but a lot depends on what the cap does also. If its a 10 then we move Florin on and chase a winger. I certainly don't think the wipe the slate and start again approach has worked all that well for us, either as a team or a club so continuity as much as possible is key for a side thats so close.

  4. We’d have to be stupid to give up Pierias and then Atkinson in successive years

  5. I will be absolutely livid if we are letting Atkinson go

  6. Luna was fantastic once he got up to speed before the lockdown. He was clearly underdone at the restart considering he'd spent 80 days indoors whilst in Mexico and another 14 day quarantine in Melbourne upon his return. I'd happily keep him and Windy and use our 3 Visa spots on wingers and a creative midfielder.

  7. It's another case of a player who until Jamo didn't return to the hub wasn't getting enough game time so honestly when you look at it he probably had his mind made up a while ago and was keeping a lid on it until after the GF. If that is the case at his age you can't blame him at all. But it is another case and point of the same old City mentality.. We consistently start guys who aren't quite up to it and keep the younger guys on the bench who actually give it a 110% when they play which is what Atkinson did the last few games and now he will go on and be a starter at Perth and will flourish and everyone will wish we kept him. Case and point look at Caceras when he came back.. Was always on the bench with us and have a look at what he did playing for Sydney.. Zullo is another one who springs to mind. I can see Genreau killing it at Macarthur too..

  8. He kind of reminded me a bit like Jacob Melling when we had him. A hard nut who wasn't afraid to take on a player and would always give it his all. Shattered he is gone and it will just be our luck we keep bloody Wales..

  9. This club is fucked. Watch Wales get given a marquee contract.

  10. This makes me sick actually, without knowing the ins and outs - we really don’t seem to care about home grown bonuses and the advantages it brings. No transfer fee either. Shambles.

  11. Big Boy H's goal should have stood. VAR should have been put out to quarantine for the finals, and Chris Beath can eat a turd. All the ex City players at Sydney can also get fckd, especially flappy clappy Redders and smiling spanner Brats. ...and Andy Harper can eat Chris Beath's turd. ...as you can guess, I'm still smarting from the loss

  12. I think that this was a season of transformation. It was the first season in our existence where we had a good coach, not just decent, but good. OK, not Bielsa, but still good. The result reflects this as coaching has always been the weakest link in the chain. it increases the pressure on us next season, we really need to keep Erick (Bela Guttman's 3 year rule) or we risk losing momentum even with Kisnorbo, remember the womens team was having a mediocre season under him until Jess Fishlock stepped up to joint coach, then we won. It really is a crucial season if we want to take the next step beyond 'runner-sup' and cement the cultural change. It was a transition year interns of playing list. We were stuck with players like Florin, inherited from Wazza, next season, with ACL qualification and a partial season overlap with ACL, we have a chance to recruit well and have a clearer run at ACL. It does hurt that we lost 2 finals, but it shows how far we have come that we got into both finals. I give us a B+

  13. Ouch Melbourne City have become the first team in A-League/FFA Cup history to complete an iconic "Runners up" treble. FFA Cup Final - Lost 4-0 to Adelaide United Regular season - 2nd place Grand Final - Lost 1-0 to Sydney FC

  14. Re signing Delbridge is a must! Depending if Jamo plays on next season or not the only positive is that we have Galloway who has shown what he is capable of. He isn't afraid to have a shot from long range either which is an added bonus..

  17. I saw this and kind of felt the same way too. I can't see much changing either. Atkinson has left and we will probably keep Wales on.. That there speaks volumes. Each season have a look at our high turnover. Also look at the players we have had that have moved onto other clubs and flourished. I mean just look at the Sydney team we played on Sunday night. 5 of there starting 11 are ex City players. Would have much rather they had given opportunities to players like Genreau, Atkinson in his early days to get more game time over someone like Robert Koren for example. Our marquess never quite cut it and we don't have a real play-maker such as a Ninkovic or Castro. It's something that has always let us down. Florin for example played well after the restart but in the Semi against Western United and then the Grand Final on Sunday it felt like he was nowhere to be seen. You have to expect more from a marquee player it's that simple. It will be very interesting considering what is going on around the World and the pay-cut situation etc going forward. No offence to the bloke at all but I really hope Wales goes. He just doesn't have it in him. His crossing is woeful and whenever he gets the ball you know he isn't going to do much.. Wish we had kept Genreau. Felt like he added something and can see him flourishing at Macarthur. Same with Atkinson. It is always the case with us. Players move on due not getting enough game time etc and go to clubs where they start regularly and end up killing it and we all sit there wishing we had of kept them. It happens season after season...

  18. Wales is rumoured to Western. This rumour seems to be on the money back in May

  21. Did anyone else listen to Simon Pearce last night? He was very self-satisfied, almost smug, saying that City is now "where we want it to be." Therefore I can't see us changing our approach with Melbourne City and the A-League. Get ready for more of the same.

  22. I suspect we'll take more notice now. We're not under the financial pressure of others. We're the only ones who continued to play our players during lockdown. Next season with a reduced cap we are able to out spend some others by being canny on issues like this. Agreed. He should be front and centre in the future of our club. And yes, future captain material.

  23. Highlight: Flying to Adelaide for the Cup final on a whim and being welcomed by a great bunch of people at the pub and the ground. Lowlight: Flying to Adelaide for the Cup final on a whim and seeing us get smacked 4 nil. Can't wait for next season!

  24. Not just for us as a club, but it would make no sense for Atkinson to leave us. I think most people would agree he will eventually head overseas, why wouldnt he give himself more options by staying with CFG, and he also gets to play ACL next season. It's not like he doesn't play games for us, if I was advising him. City is the best place for him at the moment

  25. Loved his passion on Sunday night future captain. Need to keep these players which is what builds culture been here from our academy. We get concessions need to take advantage of them like Sydney as Connor, Nate, Ramy, Colakovski all wages outside the cap homegrown players

  26. Hope he bloody stays! He wears his heart on his sleeve and has come forward in leaps and bounds the last couple of seasons.

  27. Hopefully we keep him homegrown player outside the cap starting fullback why would he leave top 2, acl next season, GF. Perth manager just walked out the club. there was a rumour last season and in January regarding Perth. His Instagram said “we will be back”. Have to wait and see

  28. If we're going to have a 2020-21 season running from December 2020 to July 2021 we're going to have to have something from the A-League administrators pretty soon. Otherwise departures for places such as India are inevitable.

  29. Highlights: - Qualifying for the ACL Qualifiers for the first time. - Runners-up in the FFA Cup, the Premiership, and the Championship. - Jamie Maclaren as Golden Boot winner. - A real goalkeeper at last. Lowlights: - Just falling short in everything. - Not winning the matches that count - we still have nemesis teams (notably Sydney and Perth with whom our record over 10 seasons is very poor). - Just not delivering with our visa players. - Luna the only one to deliver. Unfortunate injuries to Windbichler and Hendry, Berenguer and Noone very disappointing, and not convinced by Cabrera and Susaeta before they left anyway. My Player of the Year is Tom Glover. Edit: Additional lowlight: Mombaerts leaving.

  30. Couldn't agree more with this! Noone looked good throughout the FFA cup but has since pretty much disappeared. Wales is not worthy of starting and is a bench player at best but let's be honest who else do we have that can play in that position? Something we have always lacked apart from the days of Novillo is wingers who are creative and can provide the striker with good crosses etc and to score goals.

  31. Reckon Florin needs to go. He had a brief good spell when the league resumed but the last few games he disappeared yet again. He isn’t worthy of a marquee spot that’s for sure and we inherited him under Joyce. Luna and Noone I think have their good days. It’s a shame we couldn’t see the form Noone had throughout the FFA cup. One thing we lack and seriously need to look at is a player to support Jmac. Lets be honest if Jmac was to suffer an injury who do we have to step in and replace him. No offence to the bloke but Wales isn’t cut out as a starter. He is a bench player at best who could come on with about 20 mins left to tire out the defenders. Just my opinion.

  32. He got more, that's not a final tally. I'm currently in process of getting all the votes together, and waiting for last night's poll to finish

  33. My favourite match- the game against Newcastle when I was convinced that Uruguay was going to take Cabrera and Luna as their front 2 over Suarez and Cavani My least favourite - FFA cup final, closely followed by the Christmas derby. How the fuck did we lose to those retards this season

  34. Wales was offside and in the 'wrong area'. Can't say conclusively whether it affected Redders or not, but i think disallowing the goal was probably justified. Really harsh on us, but i think that's football, not an error by the ref. Glad Le Fondre didn't get the penalty but if the same thing had happened to Maclaren, we'd be furious about it. Could easily have been given. Don't want to see someone sent off in a grand final because they momentarily lift their shirt. Would have tarnished the result if we'd then equalised or won in extra time. Was the briefest of indiscretions. Everyone's having their say, so there's mine. In short: Very proud of the season. Not the most entertaining Heart/City season, but real progress was made. We had our chances to win the grand final and didn't. That was down to us, not the ref and not even really the opposition. Why Noone didn't pull the trigger from 18 yards in the first half i don't know. 3 half-chances from headers from Curtis Good he'll wish he can have again. Too few players had real hunger. Atkinson did, possibly too much, but many others were passive when the grand final was there for the taking. I'd want City to keep our starting back 5 (+ Galloway). Put Glover on a 5yr contract. Keep Brillante, Metcalfe and Maclaren. The rest can leave because i think we can recruit ample or better replacements for Berenguer, Luna, Noone and Wales. Keep the youth and give them some serious minutes. Most of them will fail but 1 or 2 won't and that's what a youth system is for.

  35. Totally agree in a normal season, although i do think this wasnt a normal season either with so many compacted games and the hub etc I think we sorely lacked a sub that could come on and change it up last night, but that was basically a COVID consequence when we lost Genreau and Susaeta.
