Melbourne City 2014 Pre Season

The Heart community approach impressed many from Manchester they said.. Mentioning that some of the stuff Heart have been doing is likely to be implemented globally.

So there´s no culture clash there.. ^_^

I'm assuming that A League clubs haven't had much resources for philanthropy so if Melbourne City mirror what goes on in Manchester (City in the Community) then it'll bring a lot of pride all round.

http://www.mcfc.com/the-club/city-in-the-community

I hope that this recent news is the start of such efforts.

Certainly is a promising sign.

What is important to also consider is that MH has always had a very community minded approach, even winning an award for its work. Its not something that will be a new idea for the club, but will hopefully build it even further.

Sounds like both sides will benefit then. Love it. :-)

Yeah it's not looking too good on the club media front ATM.

one other thing is the club is getting pretty limited media coverage as well (perhaps it's because the football journos are occupied with the World Cup, or perhaps it's largely just the short shift football always gets in the Australian media), so the club's lack of media makes for a pretty deafening silence.

There was a not-too-subtle media invite in the announcement of Brown,Melling and Chapman signing:

Brown, Chapman and Melling will be available for interview once they commence training with the Club in the first week of June.

However, it looks like no journalists or media outlets were interested.

Hopefully things pick up soon, especially so prospective members can hear some buzz and learn about the club, and get on board for next season. Because right now things are pretty low-key.

He's taken photos with both our jerseys, our shirt and has been interviewed about it. He's knows he's coming to Australia FFS

This David Villa example illustrates why Murf's point is well made. Especially when conflicting statements appear it is in everyone's best interests for the club to keep the information flow going so that any uncertainties can be cleared up and don't start to fester.

Maybe he was "taken out of context", or people are reading into it too much. He was not speaking English remember, as it was a translation of what he said in Spanish. Not the first time such words have come out differently in another language than they were intended to say.

He has signed a contract to play here and there was nothing in his statement that appears that far off the truth.

A/ Hes not moving to Australia, and NYC will be his new home. True,

B/ Hes only coming to Melbourne for a short periiod. True. 10 weeks it is.

Afterall, I doubt they would want him to only train for what will be 8 months if he waits for the MLS season to start.

What is it with some people really... Melbourne City have had 10 x more media exposure so far than MH did, with quite a bit of signing and WC news, which often mentions that Villa is to be a Melbourne City player. Just settle down and have patience.

There are over 3 months to go before the season to get into advertising mode, and with a lack of footballing journalists in this city currently due to the WC, whos going to want to report about us? Just wait, as theres plenty of time to maximise exposure in the coming months.

My guess would be that the Spanish journalist didn't actually do any research.

Marca is also renowned for being full of tripe, I wouldn't look too much into it.

What about the quotes directly from the horses mouth? Again I bring up "if I go to Melbourne"

Lol he probably hasn't been told yet. He may have just signed a big money deal with them saying he will play where they want him to play

Not only that. Already 2734 have committed to 2014/15 with Melbourne City. In my view there's an obligation to keep them informed.

In reality though it has been quite on all football fronts across the world while the world cup has been on with the exception of a couple of minor signings in the epl

Furthermore villa just played his last game for Spain he was pretty emotional he can be forgiven for the loan stint in the a league slipping his mind

Looks like we're temporarily using Hume City's training ground now:

Melbourne City FC building towards Manchester camp

3 July 2014

Melbourne City FC are building towards the Club's trip to Manchester for a pre-season camp and have utilised Hume City FC's home ground in recent days as part of the team's preparations.

Hume City FC have provided Melbourne City FC with access to its home ground for a number of sessions this week.

“We are very thankful to Hume City for allowing us to use their training facilities before we head to Manchester," Head Coach John van't Schip said.

"The club and the entire community should be very proud of the complex they have developed and the quality of the facility is a great step forward for football in the area”.

Melbourne City FC players met with young Hume City players following the training session, spreading an important "Don't Stand By, Stand Up!" message.

It kind of looks like the training gear that Celtic has had from time to time...

Boys are training with a higher intensity than what most of them played competitive games with.

Amazing what a little bit of pressure to perform can do.

Too right.

The whole new approach would create a more professional vibe which can only help, but also if you are a forward you are going to be thinking along these lines, your options are:

  • be good enough to keep Duff out of the side
  • Be good enough to get the right wing spot ahead of everyone else
  • Be hard working and versatile enough to show you can play in another position

If you are a midfielder you are thinking if Lampard arrives as rumoured there will be only two spots left, so you have to:

  • shine to get one
  • show enough versatility etc to get a run in defence

Either way anyone with complacency or a "if we win we win, if we lose we lose" attitude better familiarise themselves with the NYL draw and build contacts at NPL clubs.

GALLERY: Melbourne City FC commences training at Carrington

Thursday, 10 July 2014 9:26 AM

Melbourne City FC commenced training at Manchester City FC's Carrington Training Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

With squad members and support staff departing from Melbourne with Etihad Airways on Sunday and Monday, the squad spent Tuesday recovering from the long-haul journey at the team hotel.

On Wednesday, the team had an early morning pool session, followed by the first training session at Carrington Training Centre.

The session commenced in the late afternoon in Manchester, with Manchester City's first-team having used the facility earlier in the day.

While the Club's Melbourne-based players settled into their new surroundings, new signing Damien Duff joined Melbourne City for the first time.

Click through a selection of images from Melbourne City FC's first session at Carrington, including images of Damien Duff.
