I'm assuming that A League clubs haven't had much resources for philanthropy so if Melbourne City mirror what goes on in Manchester (City in the Community) then it'll bring a lot of pride all round.http://www.mcfc.com/the-club/city-in-the-community I hope that this recent news is the start of such efforts. Certainly is a promising sign. What is important to also consider is that MH has always had a very community minded approach, even winning an award for its work. Its not something that will be a new idea for the club, but will hopefully build it even further. Sounds like both sides will benefit then. Murfy1 Posted June 23, 2014 Report Share Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Yeah it's not looking too good on the club media front ATM. one other thing is the club is getting pretty limited media coverage as well (perhaps it's because the football journos are occupied with the World Cup, or perhaps it's largely just the short shift football always gets in the Australian media), so the club's lack of media makes for a pretty deafening silence. There was a not-too-subtle media invite in the announcement of Brown,Melling and Chapman signing: Brown, Chapman and Melling will be available for interview once they commence training with the Club in the first week of June. However, it looks like no journalists or media outlets were interested. Hopefully things pick up soon, especially so prospective members can hear some buzz and learn about the club, and get on board for next season. Because right now things are pretty low-key. It's fairly annoying as well because Manchester City FC and New York City FC seem especially good with how they communicate with their fans, and maybe even as much as big and expensive new signings I was looking forward to our club really connecting with supporters, by setting new standards with supporter engagement with club media and other forms of engagement (and a number of Man City supporters suggested we'd see impressive club media like that). To cite some particular instances where the club has been poor with information and communication, there is: - JVS and Didulica's trip to Britain and Manchester. The NYCFC coach Kreis has had saturated media coverage of his trip to Manchester, meeting up with Vieira and co., yet there was no coverage whatsoever of our trip to Manchester. Why were we treated so differently, with zero coverage? We are starting to look like the black sheep of the 'City family' - Zero coverage of our first match, that behind closed doors match against Whittlesea Ranges at Epping last week. Pre-takeover the club actually produced media about our behind closed doors pre-season games. Now when the club was contacted by a journalist about the match, the club just said "no comment", and refused to even acknowledge that this match was taking place - We've had Marino and Kuzmanovski with the club and training for at least/around 3 weeks, and not even an acknowledgement of them - Zero media of all of our new signings, Aaron Mooy, Jacob Melling, James Brown and Connor Chapman. The club put up interviews of Garuccio and Mauk on the day they were re-signed, yet apart from the incredibly sterile written announcements of these 4 players being signed, the club has produced no media with or about them - The team will probably leave for the UK next week, to do some pre-season and play some matches that the club itself hasn't actually acknowledged (instead we had to learn about these matches after the English clubs we're playing announced them). Again zero media, and it would be nice if we at least had a sketch of what was going to go on And I could probably come up with more points if I gave it some thought. Then there's the situation with David Villa. No one knows exactly what he's going to do at our club, and yet Villa is really the only new drawcard to make people sign up for memberships next season (if you discount the name and colour changes, and our affiliation with Man City [which is all fair enough, because people won't go to our games for those things alone], nothing really is different from last season). And ten days ago this was reported: The Asturian striker is set to retire from international football after the tournament, and has already agreed to join new MLS franchise New York City for the start of the 2015 season. In the meantime, he is set to play on loan at Melbourne City but he indicated that his appearances for the Australian club would be very limited. "I am not moving to Australia," Villa said. "I will set up in New York after the summer and will be with a physical trainer until the start of the season. He could be as jaded as Sibon for all I care, as long as he plays a respectable amount of games [say 10 games]. But now his words are casting doubt on him even playing that many games for our club). A final thing I'd add is the lack of advertising, which is lacking pretty much everywhere. If one didn't follow Melbourne Heart or the A-League (and IMO a great many Australians are ignorant of the A-League), then I don't know how someone would know about our club or its membership drive. It really is as primitive as it was last season, thus far being solely focused on social media and maybe internet advertising. So especially for the sake of prospective members, I think the club's communication is unimpressive, because it's hard to support a club you know little about (and for the vast number of Australians who don't even know of Melbourne City, it's very hard to support a club that you don't even know exists, or you don't know is selling memberships). So across multiple domains I really don't think the club's clammed-up approach to media is constructive. I'd actually settle for the amount of media we got last season, because in my judgement we are undoubtedly getting significantly less now. And to have a re-branded club especially be so light with media and information I also find strange, because I just assumed that when the club was rebranded it would want to generate lots of buzz and excitement ahead of the re-branded club's first season, and right now the club really isn't doing that, and it is to the detriment of current supporters and prospective supporters. The whole new approach would create a more professional vibe which can only help, but also if you are a forward you are going to be thinking along these lines, your options are: be good enough to keep Duff out of the side Be good enough to get the right wing spot ahead of everyone else Be hard working and versatile enough to show you can play in another position If you are a midfielder you are thinking if Lampard arrives as rumoured there will be only two spots left, so you have to: shine to get one show enough versatility etc to get a run in defence Either way anyone with complacency or a "if we win we win, if we lose we lose" attitude better familiarise themselves with the NYL draw and build contacts at NPL clubs. 6 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

With squad members and support staff departing from Melbourne with Etihad Airways on Sunday and Monday, the squad spent Tuesday recovering from the long-haul journey at the team hotel. On Wednesday, the team had an early morning pool session, followed by the first training session at Carrington Training Centre.
