MUTD/MLBHRT/ESSNDON
Fuk I hope we are on the ball Sat... The Mongs looked really good last night, the game was lost when they took Broxham out of midfield and put in Mahazi. I've got faith in JVS to clog up the midfield and not give em the space to creat as many chances.
Tommykins
LR 9 come on down Given the success we had playing Goodwin at left back (which I think was also due to an Aziz suspension), I'm not going to call this a bad idea, yet. ae7smith
This is perhaps the best result for us, Victory will be deflated, tired, and missing key players. But still need our boys in red to bring their A-game, taking things for granted will land us in a lot of trouble.

I agree. I've always been of the belief that blistering pace, energy and flair are the attributes you most want in a player coming off the bench if you're chasing a game. Players with vision, good ball control and tight passing ability but are on the slower side are the kind of guys you want starting the game, that's partly why Kalmar never seems to show his true potential imo. Murfy1
I'd much prefer Kewell to start. He's one of our best players, and you want your leaders starting big games. Also, Kewell has demonstrably lifted the team before: remember when we played Sydney away and with ADP they effectively beat us in the first half. Then we subbed Kewell on in second half and the whole team lifted and we should have got something out of the game. Further, the away match against WSW, big lift when Kewell was subbed on on 70 minutes. This match reminds me a fair bit of the first derby. There were some uncertainties surrounding Kewell, and he started and played 70 minutes and was a stand out. This time he should be generally fitter as well, so if he's overcome the toe injury then start him. Murfy1
Heart-Victory Preview: Derby looms as key clash John van 't Schip's side can't stop winning after turning around their woeful early season form, while Kevin Muscat's men are good going forward but suspect at the back Feb 27 2014 Michael Huguenin It is not often that a team on the bottom of the ladder would be considered favourites heading into a clash with the third-placed side but that is exactly the case ahead of the third Melbourne derby of the A-League season. Melbourne Heart have turned their form around since midway through January, winning five and drawing one of their past six games. With John van 't Schip providing superior tactical knowledge from the bench than previous head coach John Aloisi and, crucially, marquee midfielder Orlando Engelaar hitting top form, Heart are making an improbable charge to the finals. For Melbourne Victory, last week's pulsating 4-3 win over Adelaide United took them two points clear in third position and kept the pressure on second-placed Western Sydney Wanderers but the Big V were humbled in the AFC Champions League (ACL) on Wednesday, going down 4-2 to reigning champions Guangzhou Evergrande. Victory will have little time to recover after returning from China before they have to take on Heart on Saturday night. The A-League's salary cap ensures the competition is both very even and unpredictable. In the league's nine seasons, it has been incredibly difficult for club's to maintain runs of form for much longer than a month. Can Heart buck that trend to make the finals? Heart have not beaten Victory in a derby in their past four attempts and with six games unbeaten, the Red and Whites seem due for a loss. Van 't Schip will have to refocus his side if they are to overcome their rivals this week. Can Kevin Muscat's Victory side score enough goals to make up for their leaky defence? The Big V have not kept a clean sheet since December and have let in seven goals in their past two matches. With Heart having scored an average of 2.5 goals per game during their unbeaten run, Victory goalkeeper Nathan Coe, who has not started 2014 in good form, is sure to be tested in the derby. The hopes of Muscat's men may rest on the likes of James Troisi and Gui Finkler to score even more at the other end.How much does Aloisi wish towering Dutch midfielder Orlando Engelaar had been fit all season? Engelaar has transformed the Heart, playing a key role in their destruction of Wellington Phoenix a fortnight ago with a goal and an assist, while he also scored the winner versus Brisbane Roar in Round 20. If the 34-year-old had not broken his leg in pre-season and missed the first 14 rounds, Heart might already be in the top six and Aloisi might still be head coach.Victory's first half against Guangzhou was one of their best 45 periods of the season, as they stunned Evergrande to lead 2-0 at the break. While the second half would have been bitterly disappointing for Muscat and his team, the reality is the Big V are getting closer to their best form at the right time of the season. But with an incredibly leaky defence and Muscat's disinterest in changing formation to add extra cover, Victory will be playing with fire through the rest of their campaign in both the A-League and ACL. Heart's attackers such as David Williams and Mate Dugandzic, who have looked reborn under Van 't Schip, will surely be excited at the prospect of taking on the worst defence in the league.Goals are almost guaranteed but with Heart having won just once Melbourne derby out of six in the past two years, Victory should have plenty of confidence. http://www.goal.com/en-au/match/108657/melbourne-heart-vs-melbourne-victory/preview Going off his own arguments in the above article, a Heart win sounds more likely in my judgement. Murfy1
A-League: what to look out for this weekend Paul Connolly 27 February 2014 A derby too close to call A contributing factor in the Melbourne Heart’s remarkable rise is the instruction coach John van ’t Schip has been giving his players to forget the outside world bearing down on them and simply enjoy playing the game. Sound advice, along similar lines to the saying “dance like there’s no one watching” (or, its variations, “use a public toilet like there’s no one listening”, “lather up in the shower like you know you won’t be disturbed” and “complete your tax return like no one will check it”). On the other hand, it’s going to become increasingly difficult for the Heart to ignore the wider context of their matches and the bearing of the result now that they have hauled themselves, incredibly, into finals reckoning. It’s one thing to play with freedom and joy when you’ve got nothing to lose. It’s another to do so when you’ve actually got something at stake. So here we are. Just as the Heart have got themselves in a position to climb off the bottom of the ladder (they could jump to eighth if they win and Perth and Newcastle lose – both reasonable occurrences) they come up against their bigger, handsomer, wealthier (well, temporarily at least) neighbours who have won three of their past four derbies. But in the Heart’s favour this time around is the head of steam they’ve built up, the cohesion Van ’t Schip has instilled, and the form of a number of players including Orlando Engelaar. Meantime, Victory’s euphoria at their thrilling win over Adelaide last week has been undercut by the little trouble they had in big China on Wednesday night. Gui Finkler, at least, was spared all the exhausting hoo-ha of baggage carousels and tray tables and tiny bathrooms with their disconcerting toilets and that awful sucking sound they make, but it’s a tough ask for Victory to play a derby just three days later. Hopefully for them, Tom Rogic – who also missed the ACL fixture – will be fit to play. Ordinarily you’d tip Victory in the derby but right now it looks like a toss of a coin. http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/feb/27/a-league-what-to-look-out-for-this-weekend Edited February 27, 2014 by Murfy1
