Betting scandel

This betting scandel will go pretty deep in all sporting codes in Australia, one game out of the A League has came up as having $40 mil spashed out on it.

To me its quite obvious which game this was, any game featuring Hoffman should be considered corupt because one cannot simply put him on the park and expect to win! The crime groups must lick their lips as soon as they see him in our squads weekly.

Seriosuly what are other peoples opinion on this? Will this affect the A League in the short term? and the Heat most imporantly?

Source for betting scandal please, I'm only aware of the AFL and their drugs + European clubs accused of being fixed under a Singaporean crime network.

I listened to the press conference live on SEN yesterday and they mentioned the game was in Melbourne.

You guys really are living under a rock!

If people are seriously asking for a source, please get out from your rock. It has been on every news coverage for two days now, and the A League game has just came up yesterday, maybe if you read the papers, you wouldnt have these problems

MATE, if you're seriously not posting a link/source in the OP, please get out from under your internet rock. Spellcheck pls.

There was no mention anywhere in the media of the 40 million betting splurge game under investigation as been played in Melbourne...they didn't even confirm the sport involved let alone where the city where the game was played in....some in the media suspect its A-League but that is as far as it goes.

This does not surprise me at all.....as soon as they allowed sports betting to be legal then what do you think will happen??? The problem now is there is too much money involved and its too far deep in all sports that it will be impossible to stop unless they ban it world wide. One only has to open a newspaper, TV or radio and we are bombarded with sport betting odds. All these annoucements by ACC yesterday will amount to nothing......window dressing unless they lock up individuals, players, officials or ban entire clubs. Telling us all there is a problem with drugs, betting and their links to crime gangs in Australian sport is stating the obvious......

Victoria's Police Deputy Commissioner Graham Ashton said bets from a single Asian-based bookmaker had been placed on an A-League clash in Melbourne [from foxsports.]

It all adds up now, the derby was fixed. Strebre the dog.

And this is why etihad was trashed, some people just don't tolerate this bullshit.

Hang an effigy of strebre and then burn it

4-1 win Roar, 9 Nov

3-3 draw with Jets, 24 Nov

1-0 win Perth, 2 Dec

1-2 derby loss, Dec 22

other Melbourne team

Hmm....interesting...one game above might stand out a little but depends on whether the $40million splurge was for a particular team winning, losing or by losing by a certain margin.

As far as I know from what I have read, the game in question has not been specified, other than it was in Melbourne and was late last year. The Asian betting syndicate that took the bets has said nothing offically....

Melb H games in December:

2/12/12 - MHT 1 vs Perth 0

22/12/12 - MHT 1 vs Visitors 2

other Visitors Games in December:

15/12/12 - Visitors 1 vs Brisbane 1

28/12/12 - Visitors 3 vs New 2

Mods, until details of the specific are revealed, I suggest this topic be moved to Australian Football, rather than under Melbourne Heart

There has been a few leaks from the document that was spoken about yesterday about drugs and betting. 9 AFL clubs are getting investigated with 6 of them being Victorian, 7 NRL clubs and 3 A league clubs. I don't know if those A league clubs are getting investigated for match fixing or drugs or both. Hopefully we are not connected to any of that.

These betting plunges are not necessarily about the final result of sports fixtures. They can be on all sorts of specific incidents during a match.

The thing that irks me about the report yesterday is that it makes general and sweeping statements about widespread corruption in Australian sports. By so doing, every single sport and every single match or competition is now tainted until proven otherwise.

If there is genuine evidence of the fixing of particular sports outcomes then the specific matches, competitions, clubs, teams, individuals, - whatever is the case - should be investigated.

There is absolutely no place for general and sweeping statements. They are an abuse of process.

I agree that its unfair on the clubs and leagues which are clean and have been tainted with these allegations, however from an investigators point of view it's much more effective to have people coming to you rather than going for them. Not only is it going to use less resources, but chances are you're going to get people coming to you and giving you information you'd never discover from your own investigating.

It's all worth it for the long term to have these people coming out from the cracks, if it means that sweeping statements have to be made in the short term.

Mmm derby maybe? Or even our win against Perth....? Or the Brisbane game at half time ball was called out yet it SA clearly in and we ended up winning 4-1

Won tickets to that Heart of Business lunch today and David Gallop was very specific and very proud about football not being implicated whatsoever in this betting scandal. Stated that no A-League games were being investigated so not sure what this $40m game is.

Spoke to Julius, the Heart media manager, afterwards and he confirmed that Heart had come out clean, not involved in this mess at all. So that's good news.

Front page of today's Age is now a big story. There's always been some form of corruption in sport. Australians have always had this belief that we were clean and didn't go in for that sort of thing. We've always been quick to jump on other nations when they've been caught, but have tended to brush off any Australian caught as a minor indiscretion e.g. Cricket match fixing involving Warne and Waugh several years ago.

Given our poor run of referee decisions this year, it would be easy to suggest that some money has changed hands ;-)

Media making a big fuss over nothing. Match fixing happens all over the world. Also love how as soon as Soccer is mentioned the media jump on it straight away,

95% of the talk has been about AFL and NRL, footy classified started 3 weeks early to solely talk about the problems with AFL. All the back pages are filled with AFL, and SEN spent all day replaying Gallops soundbite saying the ALeague is clean.

Not really sure how you can complain about it, or have this casual attitude that match fixing is no big deal because it happens all over the world.
