  1. Hardly that Tony I just want to help a bloke out, who is a true rusted on supporter, like us all. this is a great forum, with some really good people, as I well know, who gave me great support through a difficult period just over a year ago it is the least I can do

  2. I would like to personaly thank all the guys that offered tickets for me and Mrs Johnno but we sat down after Friday's Shemozzle and decided we would stay at home, we have had enough dissapointments from the team for this season and the mrs gets very fed up when we lose games we by rights should win plus the inconsistency has dampened our enthusiasm for a while but we will be back next season. Once again many thanks for the offers, come the boy's in blue.

  3. More or less agree with most of what has been said above. However, I don't think that the squad is nearly as good as some make out, even after the activities in the January transfer window. If we look at the listed forwards on the club web-site they are: Fornaroli, Gameiro, Novillo, Kuzmanovski, Dekker, Marino and Brown. From that group we have been carried this season by Fornaroli and to a lesser extent Novillo, the latter a "problem child" if ever there was one. Injuries to Gameiro, Dekker, Marino and Brown. In midfield the listed players are: Melling, Garuccio, Retre, Mooy, Trifiro, Fitzgerald and Caceres. Obviously the stand-out player there is Mooy, with lesser roles filled by Fitzgerald and Caceres, but the others look to me like square pegs in round holes, especially Garuccio. In the defence, well, what can you say. Franjic, Kisnorbo, Chapman, Clisby, Zullo, Hughes, Malik and Wilkinson. I've been very disappointed with Franjic and Zullo, and again the club signing injured players has backfired. Hughes - best say nothing, because that's been his contribution on the field. Chapman was injured for a significant period, and we've relied so much on the old warhorse himself, Kisnorbo. Goalkeepers: Sorensen and Bouzanis. I'm not against using a visa place on a GK, and although Sorensen has played well enough overall I've been less impressed as the season has gone on, and I'm not convinced that Tando would have been worse. Really the team has revolved around just a handful of players. As such I think that fourth place might even flatter us, despite the great football we have seen, the 63 goals, the sensational individual goals along the way, and the privilege of watching Mooy and Fornaroli in City shirts. We do at least have a home final, but the fragilities of Melbourne City are still there - signing injured players, poor use of visa places on the roster, and the tendency to choke when grit and determination are called for.

  5. I remember when I was in South Africa for the 2010 World Cup, Our bus/truck driver was around 60 years old and lived in Soweto. He loved football and his national team, but had never watched them play live since he couldn't afford to. So our tour group put money together and bought him a ticket right on the half way line close to the dugouts to watch South Africa vs France (I think). He cried his eyes out when we presented him with a ticket as he knew he would never get this opportunity again. When we saw him again a couple of days after the game he manged to get some autographs from the South African players on his hat which I'm sure to this day he keeps treasured.

  9. I'm pumped. Want revenge on Perth for last week and the final last year. The boys deserve a good end to the season, which at times has been ridiculously entertaining, despite JVS. Come Sunday night another chapter in our history will be written and I'll be there supporting the lads with a level of vigour that will embarrass the Mrs and scare my kids

  11. I've known alot of dickheads over the years and not all of them have been disruptive in the team sense. Some are the likeable rogues. He didn't after all punch or kick any of his own team mates he went after Mauk. So without knowing exactly what's been going on behind the scenes being a moron shouldn't be the determining factor alone. Just saying.

  12. I'd say his time with City is falling apart. Can't control himself either on or off the pitch. Plenty of visa players out there who don't behave like dickheads.

  19. Have you watched the last two games where Fornaroli has been mobbed by defenders? Maybe we should fly Koren back in he might save us.....

  20. Im not his greatest fan but understand his value to the team, in saying that that footage of him "kicking" is piss poor and cannot see why he would be even cited. I might be influenced by my AFL upbringing but that is really nothing unless he connects. Play on!!!

  21. Yeah that's a fantastic number for a little A League club. Especially when you consider the salary cap is only 2.5 million. Would love to see the figures in detail for no other reason that I'm a curious bastard.

  23. Why not Garuccio on the left wing, and Clisby to LB? Makes me laugh how people crap on about how a strong squad we have, but as soon as one starting player is unavailable we don't seem to have a replacement...

  24. Guys we have to have 3 up front. Whenever we haven't the other teams have basically put 4 defenders around Bruno. Now most teams still couldn't stop him, but Perth seemed able to. 2 wingers means they have to keep an eye on them and that will give Bruno the space he needs to reek havoc. So its Fitzy on one wing and one of Merino (baa), Kuzi or Brown on the other. From the little I've seen of those 3 recently, I'd start Marino and put Kuzi on the bench. His pace will petrify tired defenders, (even if his decision making relaxes them).

  25. Well I guess he helps the prep before the game and half time if its needed. An experienced pro Like Sorrensen surely wouldn't need much coaching though. Anyway if they needed someone there is a guy called Clint Bolton at the club, no ones brother i know, but I think he might know a thing or 2.

  32. Apparently PDF tickets are getting emailed out on Wednesday. Fair enough but surely they (both MelbourneCity and Ticketek) needs to communicate this better to the people purchasing tickets. We're ready to go with our credit cards but so many unanswered questions, much confusion and doesn't help that passwords weren't working when it turned 9am this morning.

  35. Hi all A friend of mine makes a tv program for ch31 for the Dutch community here in Melbourne although her program is shown on Aurora across Australia as well, Her kids did an interview with JVS which was nice of him to do. Do check it out, its at the start of the show. Warning: Opening credits may contain funky, 70s style music. You have been warned. cheers Peter

  37. No way. Have heard via the grapevine Eyigun, Millar and Brown are in. Sorrenson will plug the troublesome left back spot and Chapman will be in goals.

  41. They join the long list of players who played for us and have won silverware at other clubs. Adelaide had more Heart players than City did on Friday and they still managed to win. Strange.

  44. Last night was another reminder that there's a strong potential supporter base out there for this club. If the club gets around 12k or more non-derby crowds, then that's a solid supporter base that's only really bettered by WSW and victory (and with this club growing by 1,000 supporters every season or two, if we had those numbers then it wouldn't be long before the 1st level of AAMI was packed every game and the top level had to be opened every game). So the interest is there. It has always been there: Melbourne Heart got 11k to its first ever home game at AAMI as well. But then as now the club's been fucking things up and making it an undesirable club for many to support. IMO these potential supporters just want there to be "light at the end of the tunnel"--that is the club to be a real chance to win silverware every season or two, and then to actually win silverware every now and again. But instead this club comes across as allergic to success, and the biggest underachievers in the A-League. I really do believe that success is the only thing preventing Melbourne City from growing into one of Australia's best football clubs with strong crowds, and maybe one of the best clubs in Asia. But tragically this season has been a double-whammy with the club A) failing to be successful (first the FFA Cup, now the Premiership, and probably the Championship) and B.) the club re-affirming its pathetic loser underachiever reputation, that promises prospective supporters more disappointment than enjoyment to support, and hence keeps many supporters away. Think about it this way: if you were told how this club's first six seasons would pan out, would you have become a supporter? It's been 26 months since CFG took over. CFG need to pull the finger out and make some power moves to set this club up for success, and do so ASAP.
