  1. No better feeling than knowing that when I knock off work on Friday I'll be heading into the city for a few cheeky beers and a sausage from the sausage stand and an evening at AAMI Park. As painful as being a fan of this club can be at times I wouldn't miss it for the world and I'm so glad football's back!

  2. saw an amazing article about Berisha the other day. How he had to walk about 1200km as a refo to get to Germany (as a 7 year old). Article kind of explains why he's such a prick. Dealt a tough hand in life.

  3. Meh, whilst I think our gun laws are a great thing and would not want them loosened, it's more than just the second amendment that causes these American massacres. Guns are just a weird part of their culture. Canada has a comparable gun ownership rate to the US but has nowhere near as much violence. The laws will never change and neither will their culture unfortunately. Recommend watching Bowling For Columbine as it provides a pretty good insight into this stuff. *EDIT* inb4 "Michael Moore lefty cuck scum"

  5. Not sure that argument in particular carries much weight these days. Lets be honest, if a full scale civil war broke out, guns aint saving anyone.

  6. Because of your youth you have conveniently overlooked ( or simply just don't know about them) all the other mass shootings that occurred before Port Arthur . I reckon there was at least 3 in Melbourne alone and due to our propensity to adopt all things Yank, I would expect we'd have had quite a few since if not for the gun laws. Relevant stats you are overlooking: Gun massacres since gun laws were tightened = zero.

  10. Melbourne City Fan Representative Group Meeting 28/08/17 In Attendance: Club Staff: Luke Wyman, Scott Munn, Nick Becker, James Crouch (Retail), Travis Davidson (Membership) FRG Members: Steve, Haydn, Michael, Glenn, Russell Absent: Rodney, Matthew, Alice, Bridget, Natalie The first FRG meeting of the season commenced with CEO Scott Munn introducing new members of both the FRG and Melbourne City staff as well as detailing the objectives of the group as being a two way sharing of information between club and fans. At the time of the meeting Scott mentioned we had one foreign spot remaining to fill and that this would be a marquee. He also explained that due to work visas it was difficult to bring players. For example due to the relationship we had with Holland we could bring a Dutch player on a tourist visa and this can progress to a working visa, however as a point of comparison a Serbian player can’t come until the working visa is obtained. Therefore we‘re often linked to players but we can’t announce players until this is official otherwise we’d get in trouble with the visa people. There are also two Australian spots left. Marcelo Carrusca is training with us for fitness but nothing is guaranteed and depends on the right deal. At time of the meeting the list was injury free (Bruno Fornaroli unfortunately injured himself the following night in the FFA Cup). Reports were that Fernando Brandan has worked hard and is ahead of schedule. Daniel Arzani has made the biggest leap to impress this preseason. Warren Joyce has now settled in after initially having to adapt to our long preseason. He has managed to balance the requirements of shifting gears between a preseason and the FFA Cup. He has already stamped his “hands on managerial style” on and off the pitch. This includes spending extra time speaking with fans at sessions and events. The Woman’s team start mid-September and while no names were revealed Scott said that the core playing group will be re-signed. There will be more double headers with the woman’s fixture to be released early September. Games will continue to be shared between CB Smith Reserve and AAMI Park. Two boys teams will be added to the NPL next year bringing Melbourne City to a total of four teams in that competition going forward.
Nick then spoke about memberships where we’re at similar ground to this time last year with over 7 500 members. We have been working closely with our City Clubs for clinics and fan events as a response from fan feedback to engage more. We finished the 16/17 season with 13 078 members and are aiming for over 15 000 this season. This season’s membership campaign is “City to the core” with street posters and a digital campaign. The recent kit launch and Stomping Ground Brewery events went down well. The club is hoping that the desire to do things for the fans has come across. We’re looking at holding a similar event at Stomping Ground, mid-week during the week after the round one game (Likely to be a Tuesday or Wednesday). The club is working on ways to keep evolving the match day offerings. We’re working on licensing for a new pop up bar in partnership with Stomping Ground Brewery to be sold at Gosch's Paddock prior to the game as well as Biggie Smalls, so we want fans to get on board! James has joined the club recently and is in charge of merchandise. He mentioned that the fans have a chance to make their mark on the club with the recent competition to design a fans shirt. For anything non Nike we are locked into licenses with Classic Sport who tend to cater for an NRL market, so we’re trying to change this up and customise for our fans. We have the same approach with the New Era caps, we’ll have say six hat designs for the season to choose from and this will include some limited editions to test the market. The idea is to offer street wear or designs you can wear outside of game day. Official junior shirts will start at size six upwards. We are limited with each Nike license agreement to supply eight items per season and there are certain rules about what we can and can’t control. The club feels we have a good range and aim to have a point of difference that feels unique to city. Membership packs have landed and will start to be sent out soon. For the very first time juniors will get a backpack with their memberships. A member of the Melburnians suggested a unique shirt or polo to be added to member packs next season. While this was considered a good idea Nick mentioned that we’re still restricted by official licences and that the quality of the product might suffer as a result so would rather have a good quality polo as official merchandise. The club feel they have the perfect balance between home and away shirt designs this time around. Last season was polyester and before that was wool. You can still customise your membership photos however the suggestion was for members to get onto that ASAP. The TV coverage was discussed with the new free-to-air deal showing one Saturday night game a week on one of the Network 10 channels as well as the usual Foxtel coverage. The W-League will also show one game a week on 10 and an extra game on either 10 or the ABC. Finally it was also announced that Luke Wyman who has been with the staff in charge of match day is moving on to a new position with Formula 1. Both the club and the FRG wish him the best and thanked him for contributing. The next meeting is to be scheduled prior to season 17/18 kick-off. If fans have any queries or items they’d like to raise please contact membership@melbournecityfc.com.au
 Kind regards, The FRG

  12. I live near the G - I couldn't move my car for four days because I would never get a space back... and had to make even supply runs I was literally besieged by the Tiger Army. So I was like Medieval George Costanza having to deal with dudes everywhere up down my street who have finally left their Outer Suburban Patio's to have a beer elsewhere for the first time since 1993 so they are going to make it count. Lets see how long the Media give them next year... until they concede it was a Pat Cash once off thing as the Bulldogs got way to many excuses from the Media right until the end this Season.

  15. City confirm leadership Group Melbourne City FC has finalised a five-player leadership group ahead of the Hyundai A-League season. Tim Cahill, 37, has been appointed ‘Club captain’ and Michael Jakobsen, 31, team captain, with the defender to wear the armband in City’s season opener against Brisbane Roar this Friday night. Jakobsen represented City at the A-League's season launch on Tuesday morning at Port Melbourne Soccer Club alongside representatives of the other nine A-League clubs. The group will comprise all-time Socceroos top goal scorer Cahill, Danish centre-back Jakobsen, two-time A-League Championship goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic, defensive midfielder Osama Malik and 21-year-old attacking midfielder Stefan Mauk. Appointed by Head Coach Warren Joyce, a player from each key on-field positional group – goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack – has been selected. “I’m an advocate for having multiple leaders, not just one captain, who can share responsibilities and keep everyone in the team accountable,” Joyce said. “Each player has been selected as we believe them to be natural leaders. Tim inspires our players in his actions and through his experience; he’s worn the armband for Everton and for his country at the highest level and we expect him to continue to represent City with great passion to motivate our players. “Eugene’s achieved everything there is to achieve in Australian domestic football and his resume speaks for itself. He’s a great character who lifts everyone around him, but also provides expert tuition to our other young defensive players. “In Michael we have a player with ingrained leadership qualities, Osama is a fantastic character and player we see great potential in developing, while Stef is an intelligent player, who, even though still young, has matured through his recent experience in Europe.” Bruno Fornaroli, captain last season, will be involved in the group upon his return to the first team. “Bruno’s will no doubt play a part in this group at some point during the season, but his sole focus now is on working with our medical team on his rehabilitation.” Malik ffs

  16. He shouldnt be pushed back to CB at all unless we are out of all other options (Bort, Jako, Tongyik and La Rocca) imo, or is replacing someone off the bench after an injury. His best games have all been as a DM, he's pretty much useless at CB.

  20. Tbf Malik's best games for us have been very good. Ill certainly never forget how good he played at Adelaide away when we won 1-0. Unfortunately Ossies good games seem to be roughly 1 in 10 and are far outweighed by his bad ones. I get what people see in him, but surely You favour consistency over the odd brilliant game in a squad this talented.

  22. I'm posting these notes at the request of a member of the FRG who's not active on this Forum. I'm not a member myself so I can't answer any questions. Just from my perspective IMO there's some very good explanations here of the reasons behind some of the usual gripes on here - delayed announcements of signings, and restrictions on merchandise.

  29. The argument isn't that an armed citizenry would be able to beat any military in conflict. I don't think that's ever been true. But an armed citizenry will be able to do enough damage and any conflict would be so bloody that it's sufficient to act as an effective deterrent to tyranny. North Korea haven't been developing nuclear weaponry for decades because they think they'll win armed conflict. The regime is simply self interested and nuclear capability is a great deterrent for the kind foreign intervention undertaken by the US in the middle east. Plus people tend to treat you with a bit more respect when you have such capabilities. It's the same thing on a different scale. I'm just a humble 62 year old Camel milker.

  40. I reckon he's fit enough to start. The bloke has lovely touch too, way superior to the other lads with probably Carrusca the only exception. I think he'll do well for us if he gets some sort of service. OTOH, I'm not sure how fit Budzinski is though. To my eye he looks like he hasnt had a full pre-season or he's just very one paced.
