cant say i'm overly confident for this one.

 

of the three games Wellington has played at home, they've won 2 and lost 1 (the first game of the season at home to Perth).  the fact they really put Newcastle to the sword, and have beaten CCM away says to me that Wellington aren't too bad a side.

however, I get the feeling that Brown will feature somewhere (don't get why since he has been so shit), Williams will start over Marino, Mauk or Melling will be dropped for Murdocca (shame since both need game time) and Archibald in for Chapman if Chapman still isn't right.

 

would like to see Marino start with Williams coming on late.  the forward line just hasn't been working and Marino seems like he might be able to hold up the ball well / lay it off ok as part of a counter attack.  Williams can then inject pace late on.

 

would suspect Wielaart will still start (have been away at a conference so might have missed something if he is a confirmed out - other team lists on here don't seem to have him in).  Chapman is still coming back from injury and JVS hasn't yet shown much faith in Archibald in starting him so cant see it happening now.

Add to this surely one of the youth specialist LBs has to start in front of Ramsay (and Garrucio). For seven games it's just not working and costing us games. Every other team in the league now knows it and targets him.

Give a kid a crack much like Goodwin in the derby a few years back when he shredded Kewell. I honestly think it's that bad that something just has to be tried. We may be surprised but, in all honesty, they couldn't be too far worse if they have a poor game.

Obviously I know this not the case as I even seen wins there - But after a while all the Heart Away games I watch at The Gimp merge into one of two games...

Or that game I always seem to be watching where they score, they score again and we score straight after but never look like scoring again.

Would like to see Gooch at LB tbh. He was shit when he played there earlier in the year, has no positional awareness. But can definitely make a tackle and is not as suicidal going forward as Ramsay.

 

Just sick of watching Rambo retreat and not even bother attempting to tackle, block or foul an opponent. Just lets them run at him and measure their crosses.

 

Would prefer Mauk to Miller also, just based on the fact that in a few weeks time Miller will be gone (hopefully). Would rather give Mauk a go off the bench, give him some game time. Nothing to lose, more to gain.

Sorry mate but you got confused re- Ross Archibald.

 

Archibald is a centre back.  He deputised at right back for Hoffman in Round 1 and managed to get through the game without causing a catastrophe with a bit of luck (in my view anyway).  If you think Ramsay is bad i can only imagine what would happen if we played a young, inexperienced, right footed, centre back at left back in an A League match.

Honestly the appalling recruiting means that whilst we have 18 midfielders, Ramsay is probably legitimately the best option at left back, which is a large part of why I predicted a poor season for us.

Anyway back to Wellington, I am expecting a goal fest.

As always, because of our repeated inability to get off to a good start, this game and every one after it is critical to our season.

 

If we lose this we will be six points off fifth spot requiring a massive change in form to peg the difference back, and most likely be bottom of the league by Christmas.

 

I predict JvS will go for the older players over youth - he always does - and persist with this stupid high-press formula that doesn't suit the players he has.

 

Our record against Wellington is poor. Regrettably I think we will lose.

Garuccio, what to do with Garuccio. Vexed question. in another thread there is an analysis of last week's game, and I came around to the point of view that Ramsay followed the game plan, Miller did not. So should Ramsay play? Well yes but maybe not for 90 minutes. He should be subbed off for Garrucio so that the latter can have some more minutes. Problems as has been covered elsewhere is that neither is a LB and for Ramsay it may be too late but perhaps not for Garrucio. Same with Archibald and Wieleart. Don't care which player starts but they need to be subbed off. And yes that is two out of three changes but right now, I am pessimistic about this season overall hence I want something for next season.

From what I understood from that analysis is that Ramsay did everything BUT follow the game plan.

 

The game plan (apparently) consists of one full back pushing up the pitch whilst their opposite full back tucks into the centre of the park to fill the hole and stop the quick counter attack if we lose the ball further up the pitch.

 

In all those images of the analysis it shows Ramsay as high as Hoffman every time Hoffman had the ball high up the pitch. So yes Miller might be crap, but Ramsay seems to think he has a licence to roam free no matter where the ball is leaving Wieleart et al exposed and undermanned at the back.

Has Garuccio played there in a game, besides the one where he came on when Germano did his hammy? Without wanting to give him too much of a free pass, he may have been prepared for a completely different role in the second half, until Germano went twang. That's not exactly an excuse, but I don't think it's enough to put a line through his name for the rest of the year either. One of the problems with this team at the moment isn't just that the full backs are unreliable: it's that even though they are unreliable, they would probably feel as safe as houses in the starting lineup right now. Dropping someone to the bench gives a clear indication that a starting spot in the team can not be taken for granted, especially for players that have been underwhelming so far this season.

Yeah, I do remember him playing there last year, especially blanketing Thompson in the derby. I was referring to this year. As far as I'm concerned the game against Adelaide wasn't enough (especially considering he came off the bench) to not give him another chance for the rest of the season, especially considering how badly we are leaking goals on a weekly basis.
