mattyh001
Club plays for first time in home town and won't be able to make it Don't think the buses run much beyond 8.30 during the week but it's been a while since I've taken one in Ballarat Globe hotel and Atlantic hotel are probably your best options in terms of proximity. Can't really speak for the grub at either but both should be decent My old haunt is the Golf House up on Doveton St Nth. Great bars meals and are pretty inexpensive. On the other side of town but. jw1739
Is their a game on tonight against Whittlesea in Epping? Has it been officially confirmed?? Even if it is "on" it isn't being given any publicity and therefore must be closed to spectators. The match in Ballarat is being billed on the MCFC Facebook and Twitter pages as the "first pre-season hit-out", and the only reasonable interpretation of that is that there is no match against Whittlesea today. I suggest that a telephone call to the club would be a confirmation one way or the other.
yampy
Ballarat venue is cool. Easier to get to for us of an evening than making it to Melbourne. We will be there. Hope there is somewhere to hang the banner up. Need to check with the club that they will still let us put the Bellarine banner up at home games this season too, we can't afford to 'rebrand' like they did!

Jun
Any reason why Scott Munn met with the ambassador of Korea today?
Murfy1
Munn might have met with the Korean ambassador because of this development: Melbourne City Football Club partners with city council to promote cultural events JOHN MASANAUSKAS JUNE 18, 2014 9:02PM KIDS will get free coaching and top soccer players will take part in cultural events under a major partnership between the city council and the re-branded Melbourne City Football Club. The council has allowed the club to use a stylised version of the City of Melbourne coat of arms for its logo in return for a program of community engagement. Melbourne City officially became the new name of A-League club Heart this month after English football powerhouse Manchester City bought the team earlier this year. Melbourne City sought a partnership with the council based on similar ventures with local authorities involving Manchester City and its US franchise New York City FC. Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the memorandum-of-understanding signed with the club came at an exciting time with the World Cup underway in Brazil. “Melbourne’s growing legion of soccer fans will have access to free coaching and participation sessions on match days and during school visits,” he said. “The community engagement activities offered by Melbourne City FC as part of the MOU will complement Melbourne’s status as an active, sport-loving city.” It is envisaged that club players will take part in city cultural events such as Chinese New Year celebrations, the Antipodes Festival and Lygon St’s Italian Festa. Melbourne City FC CEO Scott Munn said the club already had a long association with the City of Melbourne that affected more than 10,000 people a year. “This new agreement will enable us to expand that impact even further through the delivery of world-class sporting, cultural and community programs tailored to the needs of the City of Melbourne and the State of Victoria,” he said. Mr Munn said Melbourne City would also draw on the expertise of its sister clubs Manchester City and New York City while delivering the community and cultural programs. Melbourne City’s chances for the upcoming season have been boosted with Spanish superstar David Villa to play several matches on loan from New York City and the signing of former Ireland international Damien Duff for a one-year deal. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/football/melbourne-city-football-club-partners-with-city-council-to-promote-cultural-events/story-fnk6pqhd-1226959177516

I was worried that the obvious use of the City of Melbourne Coat of Arms would provoke opposition from the Council, and it's good to read that MCFC have been smart enough to head that off at the pass. IMO to have the official endorsement of the City of Melbourne via an MoU is a giant step for the club for the future.

TonyM
I'm assuming that A League clubs haven't had much resources for philanthropy so if Melbourne City mirror what goes on in Manchester (City in the Community) then it'll bring a lot of pride all round. http://www.mcfc.com/the-club/city-in-the-community I hope that this recent news is the start of such efforts. Certainly is a promising sign. What is important to also consider is that MH has always had a very community minded approach, even winning an award for its work. Its not something that will be a new idea for the club, but will hopefully build it even further.
