Jovan
So that's a good 4 weeks to work with the squad. That to me is clear statement of intent that he's not here just for a kick, rather he's going to be cherry ripe for season kick off. Very promising!

Cinnamon
I'm happy with a 2nd sept arrival, especially given the rumour was he'd be arriving in oct. Gives the team a decent amount of time to work with him before season start
Alexxandro
He'll probably play the first round game. Will be huge. A win in Sydney would really get the season off to a flier.

Red or Dead
Gombau: Villa hungry for success in Australia Wednesday, 27 August 2014 - Aidan Ormond Comments Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau says Spanish compatriot David Villa isn’t heading to the Hyundai A-League just for a holiday. In a huge coup for the Australian league ahead of its tenth season, the Spanish World Cup star and former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker will arrive in Melbourne before the new season. The striker has signed on for a 10-game guest stint with John van't Schip's Melbourne City. For Gombau, who like Villa spent a number of years at Spanish giants Barcelona, it’s his job to devise a plan to try and stop the classy striker when his Reds play City in the new season. While the pair weren’t at the Camp Nou at the same time, Gombau says Villa is the ultimate professional and knows his mentality will ensure Australian fans see his best. “Sometimes you can bring a star, a player that can have this (big) name and they come here just to enjoy themselves,” Gombau told www.a-league.com.au. “But David Villa is not like this, he’s a player that a winner. He’s a player that’s hungry always. “This will bring lot because David is playing here to be successful and he will always try his best. He always plays like this. He has this mentality. “He’s the top striker in Spanish history, he’s won (La Liga) the last two seasons with Barcelona then Atletico Madrid and played the final of the Champions League. This is amazing. “He will come here and want to beat everyone and try and score the most goals as possible as he can. We will enjoy to see it.” @Guaje7Villa to arrive 2Sept to play 10 matches w/@MelbourneCity #welcomeVilla @EmbajadaEspAust@ConsuladoEspMel pic.twitter.com/0DsvxTkkX8 — Cristina Teijelo (@CristinaTeijelo) August 24, 2014 Heading into his second season with the Reds, Gombau is impressed with the standard of the competition and its continual improvement. And he believes the influx of foreign coaches and players like Villa will only help lift that level. “For sure. When a new coach comes he has his knowledge from his country, his background, he has his style and he shows it to the players in Australia,” said Gombau, who also coached the Foxtel A-League All Stars in August. “This means they improve and also when good players come here. “Training with them every day, the intensity of the training is more high so the value of this player is important.” http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/article/gombau-villa-hungry-for-success-in-australia/cclikjf7zuvh1nsp9b7gu980c

Attack11
100% Alexxandro... Service to him will be the deciding factor .. With Duff, Koren and Mooy I think he will get decent goal scoring opportunities... Just a thought, what's to say David Villa doesn't come back to us next season for another guest stint??? Maybe a player returning from injury or perhaps being warehoused, etc.
Dylan
At a guess the embassy handles some papers in a case like this..? Well I guess all embassies offer 'consular assistance' but him being such a special case I wouldn't be surprised that the consulate, rather than the club, would handle the majority of his (I hate using this word) affairs. The visa was probably approved weeks ago since its been known about for a while... Just glad to have him here so early so the club can use him to grow support. Ill admit that when I saw the rumor of the first week of October I was a little irked even though I said in this thread I didn't really mind. n i k o
If it's true though CFG must have let the embassy know or else they wouldn't have released the news
M13
Not sure if Villa got a standard Eurovisa (12 month, 3 month work permit) as he might be "working" more than three month, so at a guess the Embassy might have been involved. But for the trade commissioner herself to state a date is odd, it tells me that either the embassy is filled with soccer mad people (always a possibility) or they have plans of their own for Villa.
