By having the anchor and two neutral mids the two non inner centre backs can actually play a little wider. Should a defender get dragged (ie long ball down the wing) the dragged player just jockeys until the DM drops into the back line and the two neutral mids cover as appropriate. A winger dropping back is more last resort in that instance.
