kingofhearts
A suggetion at the fan forum in sydney a couple nights ago was for a state of orgin consiting of one team being a combination of the two melbourne teams and the other being a combination of the two sydney teams. Has there ever been a stupid idea ever suggested?

InMyHeart
it should be a league state of origin...... for example all the aussies in the a league where they were born..... so We get behind victorian players say for example against NSW born aussies Merging the 2 melbourne a league teams to rep VIC is terrible
yelawolf
we shouldn't even be thinking about this shit.. do the FFA realise this league is played in other states and another country ffs it's bad enough we have an all stars match (which looks like will be done every year now) but this is just a terrible idea
Deviant
exactly what InMyHeart said, but i thought that was a given. That's a given, it should be where you're born that governs the sides. VIC vs NSW would be a cracker. especially if cahill comes back. mus-28
Would rather and All Stars v Spastics game. Regardless of how they work it, its a bad idea

Regardless of how they work it, its a bad idea The reason why State of Origin is a success in NRL, is literally because many fans actually care more about it than their own NRL club. In fact probably 50% of NRL fans think this way, and for many PPL in Sydney these are the only games they watch all season. Therefore when Sports like A League and AFL talk about establishing a Successful State of Origin concept like that in League they need to realise that the Colourful and Exciting NRL version comes at the massive detriment to Club Support. I much prefer a league like we have where Club Loyalty is the major emphasis amongst most supporters.

Naming the teams could be a good concept, since the end of AFL State of Origin the West Australian Football Commission has named a team of West Australian AFL players if a game was to be played under the old rules and sends out State of Origin Jumpers to them every season. I reckon it could be good if the FFV etc did so as well. Edited February 14, 2013 by cadete

cadete
am i reading that right? they send them tops? even though they haven't played the state of origin in years? rofl Well for a 25 year period basicly the biggest honour in WA sport was to represent the State against Victoria in AFL, as these games were seen as even bigger than the WAFL Grand Final for many supporters. Therefore the WAFC likes to contuine the tradtion in honouring a big part of its history.
Bozza
I'm not a big fan of this idea, however I can see it potentially having an effect on many of the unconverted people out there, giving Football in Australia a bit more appeal to many of those who can't get into it. At least all options are being looked at, which is all that can really be asked. As a League that is still developing we need to look at everything, even if we personally don't like it, to at least weigh it up, because we all like different things except for that one big one, which is loving a successful and thriving sport! Not for the A-League though, although Grella would captain Victoria.

Im not born in Victoria, and feel no connection to WA anymore so I could not give a shit about a state of origin series. Its only wanted in the AFL because there is no way to see the best of the best play against each other...we already have the Socceroos to see our best play constantly.
