  1. Home and Away form whats the answer? More of Maddy doing her Surf Life Saving Training on the Beach.

  2. I don't see any real difference between home and away TBH. Our "style" of football has degenerated to the same low level for both. We have gone 8 league games and a number of pre-season matches against A-League clubs without a win. We sit far too deep, allowing the bulk of the play to be just outside or even in our penalty area (hence the number of penalties that we concede) and allow the pace and form of the game to be dictated by the opposition. The recent home game against CCM demonstrated that to perfection. 2-0 up with 30 minutes to go and we invited CCM back into the game - truly pathetic. The only difference that I see between home and away is that because when they are at home the opposition - whoever they are - make a better job of outplaying us for the usual reasons - in front of their own supporters, don't have to travel, etc. This malaise actually started in the second half of season 2, ironically at the time when we were in second place in the table. JvS went defensive for the second half of the season, and we just hung on for 6th place. Results have deteriorated under JA, and at the same time the club has seemingly abandoned its two basic ideals - those of developing and promoting young Australian talent, and possession football with a "European ethos." Negative and defensive football produces a negative and defensive mindset. Football is a very simple game - score more goals than the opposition and you win the game; do that quite often and you win the league. Whilst there is a time and place for being defensive, over the longer term it will not win any silverware. We have become so defensive that we have scored but 4 goals in our last 8 league games, and our highest individual goalscorer remains Eli Babalj, who barely played at all for us after season 2. To me the answer is pretty clear. If the coach won't change then the club has to change the coach.

  4. His words, not JA's... This bloke is a champ and hearing him speak reminds me that good defenders generally make better managers than strikers

  6. Different philosophy; At home we're obviously more positive, pushed higher up and willing to push men forward. While away we play an at the moment awful counter attacking style where we don't press (which is fucking retarded) and end up getting the ball deep in our own half, meaning we have to run 70-80 meters which is near impossible to rely on. IF Aloisi would diagonal press, and push higher up meaning we are on the halfway line/in our own half when we get the ball back more times than not we'd obviously be a lot better off. Our home style is really encouraging as it was last year, obviously we aren't going to be able to replicate that fully away from home, although Aloisi's counter attacking style is awful at the moment, he has the right idea because we have the players for the system but it needs major altercations - at the moment it's the same as last season and it got us nowhere and will continue that way because we can't rely on getting the ball back so deep and running it all the way up the pitch with at most 5 players.

  9. I agree that winning football looks good whatever the style and losing football looks ordinary. Results will trump style. Right now, weve got the worst of both worlds - unadventurous, uninspiring football and no wins. After Sunday's performance, the club would be negligent if they didn't start looking around to see what's available in case JA can't turn things around. We'll never know, but I would've liked to have seen how JVS would've gone in his third season because it at least looked like we were heading in the right direction. And if we weren't one of the top sides yet, we were earning some respect for the way we were going about it. Anyway, that ship has sailed. His ambitions are elsewhere and I'd like a coach who's heart is in the job. I think it's time to move on.

  11. Well, i guess you're asking about my family from the South? My father's father was born in Ievoli which is pretty much in between the main towns of Lamezia Terme and Catanzaro. (in Calabria) My father's mum on the other hand was born in San Michele, a five minute drive from Ievoli but more towards Catanzaro. (in Calabria) other than that, my mum's side is from Rome and Vicenza... us Nicotera's get around

  12. Great to hear one of our players telling it as he sees it and not afraid to give his honest assessment of the way we have played. Feel a lot better after listening. I wish he spoke english like he speaks Dutch. Ie Screaming at the interviewer hahaha click that link to the video of him in a Roja shirt

  13. I am one of those people who beileve those two ideas are not mutually exlusive, Forget the word attractive and focus on the fact that a certain style of football is more likely to result in you getting more shots on goal than the opposition and that will more often than not get better "results". You need more than a style to acually win ofcourse (Good players, staff, coach and the like) but I don't think you can win leagues buy rarley leaving your own half. To me parking the bus and fire off a counter attack when/if the opposition makes a siginificant mistake is not going to result in loads of wins.

  19. If Stefanutto and Franjic are out as well as Miller there should be no excuses. Aloisi should be drumming his players up and say shit like, "Right, this one is in the bag boys! Let's go out there and dominate! Even if they didn't have those players out we'd still beat them so no excuses guys, let's show these guys what it means to play for the Red and the White!" But he'll probably say something like, "let's stick to the game plan. Even if they dominate possession, we have faster players so we should be able to get them on the counter. Migliorini, Mass you guys sit back and look for that long pass to Mifsud and Ramsay. You buys up front, hopefully with some luck you can put it away...we're relying on you!"

  20. No reason why we shouldn't look abroad. Think how good a Ian Holloway type would be. IF we lose this weekend by a fair margin and dish up the same rubbish what is next for us as fans? Protest? Petition? Nothing? Tbh, I wouldn't even care what happens on the field if we got Ian Holloway. His press conferences alone would be worth signing him, absolute champ.

  21. While this isn't strictly the thread for it, the Aloisi appointment has brought a few things to the fore in terms of the clubs coaching selection policy, as well as the autonomy they allow a coach to have over first team decisions. I'd suggest they need to stay away from Okon and Vidmar. Rudan and Milicic would be my primary choices, but again, not the thread for it.

  22. Refreshing to hear Bolton say that. A bunch of new players + new season + same old coaching staff = same old performance. Wow, the problem is??? Bolton > JA+Foxe No disrespect to Clint in any way but you'd hardly need to be an astute knowledgeable observer of the game to say the same thing. There are 6000+ season ticket holders saying exactly the same thing. True. I'm sure Aloisi and everyone at the club must be feeling the same thing. But it's just good to hear somebody at the club acknowledge it. The first step is to acknowledge you have a problem.

  23. FFS it annoys me when Foxe is lumped in with Aloisi. The bloke's just doing what he's told and that's what he's paid for. I have no doubt he'd more than likely to be a better job if in charge.

  27. Attractive? I have to disagree. Not as horrible to watch as JA's brand of course, but generally speaking (like i say with the exception of our wonder run) we did not play attractive footall

  28. 1. Youth development 2. Attractive style of play 3. Results The two boxes we ticked were youth development and we played an attractive style of play. Results was something we were lacking in, although season two produced a finals place so that to some extent was a success. Not sure what other stuff you thought I said but that's the only things I mentioned. We had multiple young players which moved on to overseas clubs because they had opportunities to be recognised, Hamill, Good, Behich, Babalj and to a lesser extent Goodwin. That to me is successfully achieving a one of the major objectives of the club.

  31. So I think Aloisi is so incompetent that he relies on this best players to do the job, but the problem is his best players may not be the best player for the position he plays them in! I bet Aloisi looks at the team list: Melbourne Heart FC Squad: 1.Andrew REDMAYNE (GK), 3.Robbie WIELAERT ©, 5.Sam MITCHINSON, 6.Patrick GERHARDT, 7.Iain RAMSAY, 8.Massimo MURDOCCA, 11.Michael MIFSUD, 14.Golgol MEBRAHTU, 15.David WILLIAMS, 16.Aziz BEHICH, 17.Jason HOFFMAN, 19.Benjamin GARUCCIO, 20.Tando VELAPHI (GK), 21.Stefan MAUK , 22.Nick KALMAR, 23.Mate DUGANDZIC, 24.Patrick KISNORBO, 25.Andrea MIGLIORINI, 28. Paulo Retre Unavailable: 4.Orlando ENGELAAR (Fractured tibia – long-term), 9.Dylan MACALLISTER (Hamstring – 3-6 weeks), 10.Harry Kewell (whiplash – undisclosed), 13.Jonatan GERMANO (Hamstring – three weeks) ...and Aloisi must think: 1. Okay Kewell's out again! Well I think Williams has more speed over Kalmar, let me put him into Kewell's spot. 2. Well Kalmar isn't needed because I have Williams playing attacking mid so I'll drop him. 3. Hrmmm...now I need a right winger, well Dugandzic needs more match fitness, but I'll start him on the bench and put Golgol in his spot; he's scored a goal before, hopefully he can do it again. 4. Hoffman trains really well and although he's not a full-blown right back I'll play him ahead of young Walker. 5. Mitchinson is a promising left back, but Aziz runs his heart out and tries so hard so I'll reward him by dropping Mitch altogether 6. I'll keep our 2nd Best player of last season on the bench and use him only if there's an injury...oh crap... 7. I could've moved Macallister to the long-term injury list (or release him) and sign up Brent McGrath to boost my fire power, but Dylan's a good guy and he has a family, he deserves a second, I mean third, I mean fourth...fifth go? 7. If we defend defend defend all game and kick the ball out of danger the worst we can end up with is a draw! 8. If we're lucky one of those hoof balls out of defence will find our 5"5' striker who with some luck will find the back of the net. 9. I got no fucking idea what I'm doing here, but with some luck we might fluke a draw and hope Kewell's back next week. 10. Hopefully I can keep my job long enough until Engelaar is fit and he will be my...I mean 'our' saviour. 11. I deserve to be coach because I scored THAT penalty in 2005 to get us into the World Cup.

  32. If you're *the* JD, even if you're not, you've missed the point. The "bitterness" is not born out of this one game, but of more than 2 years of shit football and insipid player effort. ended up walking into watch the second half after my preset recording messed up and couldnt start watching from the start. from the sounds of it I got lucky. on the basis of the second half and reports about what i missed in the first, i am really pissed off. frankly i dont care about records - not winning interstate for nearly two years, getting smashed for passes and possession yesterday, etc., etc. they are all just stats that reflect not heaps by themselves. yes you can look at them as part of a collective and at that point they do start looking bad. but that then starts flowing into my next point. what really grinds my gears is that nothing has changed since last year. Aloisi has no idea of how to change things. the way I see it is that he has three plans: (Plan A.) get the ball to Kewell, let him do some individual brilliance (Plan B.) insert player XYZ in place of Kewell when Kewell is unavailable, let him do some individual brilliance (Plan C.) hit and hope well Aloisi, tell us more how we will succeed with this. tell us more how this is well devised, because frankly we don't look up to performing well on the basis of your well thought out plans. across the three games we have maybe had a dozen chances, most of which have been half chances that have fallen our way. by all means, we have had some chances that we have done well to create but watching yesterday i get that sinking feeling things wont improve this season until Aloisi goes. for a really long time i have hoped that Aloisi could manage the team well. last season i was even willing to say it was useful as a learnnig curve. but FFS i question what Aloisi has learned and how he has then applied it all. Positives (1) Weilaert at the back. (2) we still have the hottest physio (3) Mifsud look ok given it was his first game and lack of service / players working off him (4) Redmayne actually pulled of a couple of decent saves and couldnt do much more on the goal (5) Murdocca and Migliorini look like they can play together well, just dont have the support going forward (6) Ramsey has shown glimpses of doing well just doesnt have the support from Behich and subsequently has to play isolated Negatives (1) Hoffman being Hoffman. i will admit that he did do a couple of things well but got beaten a number of times poorly and unnecessarily. (2) Behich in general. personally i believe he his largely benefiting from the last time he played for us reputation wise. doesnt get forward well enough, looks lazy (doesnt cut in or overlap well enough to create options or space frequently) and is constantly late or diving in with bad slide tackles. better than Hoffman but then again, the marking point is Hoffman. (3) the fact that Murdocca and Migliorini just dont have the support going forward (4) Golgol in general; looks lazy and doenst know what he is doing. a poor man's Bruce Djite. (5) Dugandzic in general; doesnt know how to use space, pass the ball consistently nor make options (6) Williams inconsistency (7) Kisnorbo's injury for the most part i thoroguhly agree. the problem for me with the highlighted passage is that to deal without a Kewell (or even an Engelaar) is to use a Plan B or Plan C. to reframe your question a little; what do we do when we have Kewell playing and he is either playing shite or being marked outta the game? What just expect / hope something else works? games like this is where you get your pattens, your other play to work.

  34. Murf, I usually agree with your posts, but not this one mate. It would be different if we were Borussia Dortmund. It would be different if we were Barcelona. It would be different if... The issue is that it isn't any different whoever we have playing in midfield. It's the same shit as last season. Doesn't matter who we play there. Or in fact in the defence or the forwards. We're just not winning. We must stop looking for that magic bullet, that player who is going to solve all our problems. We've already got good individual players all over the park. It's the style of play that is at fault, and it all goes back to the gaffer.

All of a sudden his brother yells up "Quit making sandwiches your getting mayonaise all over my face!" - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - An 85-year-old man was requested by his doctor for a sperm count as part of his physical exam. The doctor gave the man a jar and said, "Take this jar home and bring back a semen sample tomorrow." The next day the 85-year-old man reappeared at the doctor's office and gave him the jar, which was as clean and empty as on the previous day. The doctor asked, what happened and the man explained. "Well, doc, it's like this--first I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, still nothing. We even called up Arleen, the lady next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezin' it between her knees, but still nothing." The doctor was shocked! "You asked your neighbor?" The old man replied, "Yep, none of us could get the jar open."

  38. One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along side the road eating grass. Concerned over the scene, he ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate. He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?" "We don't have any money for food;" the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass to survive." "Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said. "But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree." "Bring them along," the lawyer replied. Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You may come with us, also." The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, "I am grateful for your generousity, but, sir, I also have a wife and six children with me!" "Bring them all as well," the lawyer answered. They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine. Once under way, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.” The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it. You'll really love my place. The grass is almost a foot high."

  39. The new Yarraside scarf, minimalistic by design, highlights the progression of the Yarraside brand. Once having to utilise strong contrasting colours and bold, in your face text, which at times felt like it was screaming at you for attention, these days a new direction is evident. Almost arrogant in it's simplicity, it features vibrant red, utilised sparingly, and juxtaposed on a chilling white backdrop. Yarraside Melbourne, the message remains the same, but the delivery couldn't have evolved further, no longer screaming for attention, it is self assured in it's recognition. Only one word could really describe it, classy.
