  1. This is going to get your lots knickers in a twist but in no way he should be sacked. Pretty clear that our weak mentality goes further than the manager

  2. Our team is good, we know what we are trying to do, we are just missing the jewel in the crown. Like I said, there is not one player, other than maybe JMac if he gets proper service, that our oppositon fears ... Look at what happened when Ninkovich turned one of our players, or ran at us ... we fell to pieces, becuase that is what it takes to break down a team and make a genuine chance. Who does that for us consistently? Against the Jets, we played out of our skin, because of our one touch directness, and Generau killed it in that role, but that was a one-off, and partly cos the Jets were rubbish. We need someone who can make something happen from midfield potentially everytime they are on the ball. We would be out of sight if we had that player. If we dont get that player in Jan, we will continue to just make up the numbers and we may, if we are lucky, squeeze into Asia, BUT I wouldnt bet on it.

  3. We're still second, and had a large amount of guilt edged chances, so despite me feeling absolutely distraught atm it's hard to make the case it's quite as bad as I feel it is...HOWEVER....something within this club feels inherently broken at the moment. Change the manager, change the players, change whatever you like, there's just an inherent culture of failure and weakness that we seem absolutely unable to shake off. The Cup Final, the Derby and now this game are all further examples of this clubs inability to capitalize on opportunities or rise to the occasion, we could already have one trophy and be level on points with a team that is easily the best side in the country if we had at least the tiniest set of balls. The continuing refusal to use Florin lends some plausibility to the rumours he may be off in January. If he is this club absolutely needs to bring in a marquee level creative player, there is absolutely no excuse now. Despite crumbling at every hurdle so far, there is a very real possibility we can fall into the Asian places if we address that weakness.

  5. Sydney are clearly a much better team than us. We simply do not have a midfielder (or player to that end) that all opposition teams fear. Look at Sydney with Ninkovich and Le Fondre, Perth with Castro and Bruno, the Tards with Toivonen and Nabbout, Western Melbourne with Diamanti and Gypsy ... we have a weapon in McLaren who needs service ... but we have no fkn trigger. We cannot expect to do anything other than make up the numbers, unless we inject some proper class into the midfield ... we need that player that scares the crap out of the opposition ... at the moment, all the opposition has to do is block our lanes, and hit us on the counter.

  6. If we genuinely believe in promoting talent then that would be a travesty. Like Glover, Metcalf and Genreau, we should simply be working on the basis that if you're good enough, you're old enough. And he was not only serviceable cover last night, he was the best player on the pitch for us, good defensively, but able to move quickly into an attacking role. His speed of thought, his movement and his physical commitment were all exemplary.

  7. Exactly. To create a winning team, you need good footballers before you can worry about the mentality side of things. The building blocks need to be there first. No point in trying to establish a ruthless, winning culture if you can’t actually win. Joyce had it backwards. Mombaerts understands this though I think. What Mombaerts means by mentality is a collective will to dominate matches and essentially just destroy teams with attacking football and a suffocating press. It requires discipline and a lot of mental energy and focus. It also requires quality. Manchester City over the last few seasons have exemplified it. Liverpool have it now but in a much different way. But in every case, a team needs the footballers first. Doesn’t look like we have them.

  8. Sometimes it can happen and it's out of a coaches hands. I'm disappointed in the players more than anything else. I don't think Mombaerts did a whole lot wrong actually. He made good subs (Florian is another discussion) at the right time. The tactics were there except for the players making errors that cost us goals. It's actually surprising given the players we have that we are doing so well. Not sure it's an indication of our quality or the rest of the league's lack of quality. I think a bit of both. If our season continues to be this roller coaster then questions need to be asked over the recruitment of our foreign players. I still remember Postecoglou saying in an interview after he finished in the aleague that the key to success in Australia is the quality of your imports. Last night showed this was a huge difference between us and Sydney.

  9. Is it that frustrating though? Every other club in the HAL would have a similar record with Sydney recently given their dominance.

  11. Watching the highlights it's just so frustration how for about 15 minutes prior to conceding the second goal we sat so deep and defended. It's incredible to wonder where the confidence was in the team to go for the win and to want to be a top of the table team.

  12. Considering his history with Man City, we should've signed Yaya Toure when he was a free agent from the start of the season! Quality, fearsome and would've got a few more bums on seats

  16. I disagree, pretty much all those players you mentioned are on par or better than what we have in their respective positions. Expect for Redmayne, people complained about them without genuinely looking at skill levels. Brattan is a better footballer than Griffiths and Zullo is a better player than Jamieson, it keeps going. We should stop hiding behind the mentality rubbish, our players aren’t up to it sorry. It’s too easy to hide behind it, we can’t even score a proper goal against good teams if we don’t feed Macca properly, embarrassing. Mentality and professionalism is only a part of a quality footballer, not the other way around.

  17. My point, it's not about the individuals it's about the group culture. Everyone looks to someone else to save the game rather than taking their own responsibility. The group looks for a leader to save them, whereas only the group working together can save itself. It's worth reading about Bion's Basic Assumption groups to help understand. we have a dependant group If only the maestro takes responsibility for playing, the orchestra will sound bad

  18. The problem isn't with the individuals, look at the smurfs that feature Redmayne, Brattan, Retre and Zullo as starting regulars, all played for us. Look at Perth: Killer, Bruno, Franjic, all played for us. It's a group mentality issue, it's not the individuals. Part of the problem is in looking for individuals to solve a group mentality problem

  20. I think its about time we drop the 25-30yr old age bracket and go for someone older, a diamante/castro/Ninko type

  25. No, but we went a goal up against 10 men. Just like Brisbane when we were 3-1 up and couldn't hold on. It's just fucking mental weakness and inability to adapt to the way the game is going. Also repeated failures to put the ball in the fucking net. We sign players with the wrong mental attitude right from the start.

  28. Just put Sydney's visa/marquee players alongside ours. No comparison. We're not a serious football club. Too fucking up ourselves being "CFG this" and "CFG that." Over it. Absolutely over being let down by the club time after time.

  29. End of the world boys.... Losing to the team in first who have been dominate for the last 4 seasons while we are still comfortably in 2nd. Yep sack the manager, change back to Red & white etc. etc.

  31. I think this is a massive exaguration IMO. The kid is good but Riley McGree is by far the best young footballer based on actual output- goals and stats. And we should have kept him at City. Genreau has not scored a single goal and has one assist. How can he be the best?
