  2. Seriously makes me happy to think of: Redders shit keeping, Hoff's shit defending, and JA's shit coaching all having nothing to do with me anymore.

  3. Did the NPL assistant coach tell you that as well? Lol No one believes you have a consistent inside source. You got leaked wishy washy shit once and now you're pretending to be across things as clandestine as player's wages. Turn it up mate.

  4. What I don't understand is, if I am right and this guy isn't an out and out goalscorer, why are people upset? We had guys who would have no trouble scoring, Kennedy and Tadic come to mind, but they never got any service so it didn't work out. Even as shit as Misfurd was, it takes two players to cause an offside, and there was always someone retarded enough to constantly pass it to him in offside positions. Poor service has always been a far bigger problem if you ask me than having someone to finish off the moves. This season in particular, look at who everyone thinks will be our starting wingers, Novillo and Gameiro. When Novillo gets the ball, in his head all his teammates disappear and all he can see are the goals, while Gameiro being primarily a striker would also be pretty interested in scoring goals rather than creating them. Neither of these blokes are going to be putting in crosses or creating a great deal of chances. What has always characterised our team? It has to be that we have a knack for 'dominating' a game, but not scoring the goals to match that dominance, and then the opposition goes and scores one and we lose/draw. Dominance without scoring goals is often symptomatic of not having a link between midfield and attack, having a bloke who could play as a false 9 seems more valuable to me than an out and out goalscorer. Frankly, for the first time I can remember, there is some sense in who we are signing and what JVS is trying to do. It actually wouldn't surprise me if we went on a good run of 5-10 wins to start the season, before we are found out and JVS is too rigid to change things up and we barely scrape through to the finals. Of course, I could be completely wrong, and there is some serious 'JVS logic' going on here, and Bruno (at 5'10") is going to be played as a target man

  5. Post that on Facebook and Twitter with one of those trendy harsh tags and sit back and watch the death threats roll in.

  6. Far too logical Murf. Based on previous experience, I'd say our Promotions Assistant - Regional Australia (S. Munn Esq.) has the following files spread out on his desk: 1. Morwell, 2. Ballarat, 3. Albury-Wodonga, 4. Lismore, 5. Gold Coast. In all seriousness though, this is a test for our HQ management team. Play at AAMI Park or give our loyal supporters another kick in the their pre-season teeth.I know it's only a hypothetical, but if we'd drawn MV where would we play the match?

  7. I remember now that Henry (quite rightly) identified that mining royalites were inefficient and should be replaced with a super profits tax (the logic on that is Royalties are constant, you have to pay them even in the bad years, where as an APT would only be paid in the good years). Rudd's "solution" was to keep royalties and ADD an additional profits tax. He then also had the front to have this kick in at normal profit level (about 10% I think), which is less than a project's internal hurdle, in effect attempting to render most (new) mining projects uneconomic and stripping the existing ones like a robber baron. (The problem for Prime Ministers is that royalties go the states, obviously you require some major taxation restructuring if you are going to abolish them and not face a state's revolt, Rudd couldn't be arsed doing that, so he just whacked on (or tried to) a huge brand new tax. BTW the assertion of some that mining companies don't pay tax is simply false. I know when i worked for one of the major's the minimum host country tax (including taxes by any name) was just short of 50%. People can make it sound like less if they ignore stuff like royalties for instance (in much the same way the government wants us to think that the medicare "levy" is not a tax).

  8. It probably won't be at AAMI, which is a great shame IMO. Last night's Central Coast and WSW home matches were at proper stadiums - CCM's normal home ground and Penrith Stadium respectively - and both drew crowds of 6,000, whereas Newcastle were at Magic Park and drew just 2,500. I've got no doubt I'll go to wherever our match is played, but Epping is a shit of a place with zero facilities and last time I was there for a match the toilets weren't even unlocked. If this competition is going to take off then A-League clubs drawn at home should play at home, especially against A-League opposition. Otherwise it remains a pre-season Mickey Mouse affair.

  9. It wont be at AAMI. Best we can hope for is Epping. They should bring in a few mobile grandstands and play it at the CFA that would be amazing.

  10. Another reason why this season JVS really will have no excuses. He is very lucky to get this many chances and to now really mould the team in his way with very few players left over that weren't signed under his watch. Most managers don't get this sort of chance.

  11. Can see the FFA putting the game at Lakeside. Would give them an opportunity to see how the facility functions and would give SM the chance to show that they can host top level games.

  14. Besides being our best player and all that I wonder whether CFG saw some intrinsic value in keeping Mooy at almost "any cost" - Fan favourite, commitment to keeping best home grown players at the club, etc.

  15. That's tops. Absolutely fantastic. Any aspiring A LEAGUE player will now look at us as being the biggest paying club in the league. In one deal we are now possibly the Real Madrid of Australia.

  16. With the players we have becoming fit in the lead up to this game, as well as our recent signings, and Wellington's ins and outs (most of their strike-force out: Nathan Burns, Kenny Cunningham and Joel Griffiths, and merely one NPL striker in) I'd say this draw is fine for us. A good chance to look at some of the new recruits as well. IMO It's a no-brainer to play the match at AAMI. Melbourne City have to focus on building a football club, and not on providing charity to regional areas. Like with the other A-League examples mentioned above, there will be the biggest turnout of supporters if the match is at our big home stadium rather than some small local ground. Also "Melbourne City" has played very very few matches in Melbourne over the past 2 years, so the club should throw it's Melbourne-based supporters a bone and play the match in the centre of Melbourne.

  17. It's a good concept, but flawed in design. I cannot see why the draw has to be rigged at all. The 10 A-League teams should come in at the Round of 32 (16 matches), but the draw should be random as it is in the FA Cup. At worst, all 10 A-League clubs would be drawn against non-league sides, but even if they all win, 6 non-league sides must still go through to the Round of 16 (8 matches). At worst all 6 non-league clubs will be drawn against A-League clubs in the Round of 16, and at worst all 6 will lose. But it is unlikely that a random draw will always produce the same "A-League vs. non-league" outcome every time, and in any case the FA Cup regularly turns up a giant-killer on a cup run that grips the whole of England (been there, done that). So I'm pretty sure that we would see non-league sides getting through to the quarter-finals on a regular basis, and occasional giant-killing feats. IMO the present format of A-League sides either playing away, or even if "at home" not on their usual home grounds, and the rigged draw, take most of the gloss off the competition.

  19. Agreed. I agree its a good concept, but the gap between state leagues and the a-leagues in skill level is a lot greater then I anticipated making the tournament boring and predictable. I don't know how you solve that without throwing more money at the state leagues to buy better players? The fact the draw is rigged to ensure state league teams make it deep into the latter part of the tournament takes a bit of the magic away from the tournament for me. Just think it would be better for us to have a pre-season against some a-league teams tbh.

  23. The combination of Barca and Real dominance along with the economic problems in Spain has really created a large gap in quality pretty quickly. Still the second tier teams are very good, Athetlico, Valencia and Seville, to the extent that even the top 5 teams are better than the top 5 in any other league, but then it drops off very fast and you have all these Spanish guys coming to the A-League now who are probably not far off the quality of the relegation battle teams. It seems like it's a case of if they can't get a contract at a bottom La Liga team then they're better off going overseas looking for more money than playing in the Spanish second division. Certainly the bottom 10 in England are better than the bottom 10 in Spain. Especially now that it seems the money is actually starting to bring some good European players to teams like Stoke.

  28. It saves the post that you are typing, which is a pretty handy feature, but yes it is annoying when it's a post you changed your mind about making months ago and it's still there. But personally I'd rather take the half second to delete the post I dont want to make in those circumstances, then having to retype some long post that I accidentally closed the browser while making. I concede that I probably upgraded to early as there are seemingly a lot of issues still, but they are some improvements and overall I'm confident with a few more updates it will turn out much better. I've just seen there is a new update I have to install so they are rolling them out pretty quickly. The main issue for me is that they seems to have tried to make the editor (the thing you type your posts in) too 'noob friendly' and now it's just a piece of shit and the source of 90% of the issues. Could probably make some minor improvement to the editor myself tbh, let me see.

  38. People are saying no excuses now like we've just made some massive change to our squad; we had Mooy, we still have Mooy and we signed him as a marquee on the day the FFA announces that the second marquee doesn't have to be Australian! IMO Bruno is the bigger signing because now we actually have a dedicated striker who (hopefully) won't be doing a Ramsay, Williams or Mauk in front of goals! Just being able to finish simple sitters will see Bruno score 13+ goals!

  40. Great for Mooy's signing to be officially announced. IMO it's the best outcome for both the club and the player (at least for the next 2 or 3 years. Then after that Mooy can move to a respectable European club and quite possibly be a regular starter). Excellent to see Mooy's keenness to remain at Melbourne City with the long term contract, and it's a real plus to see CFG breakout the checkbook to re-sign Mooy. The visitors across town didn't have the money to keep Milligan around, so it's a real statement that Melbourne City is willing to pay big money to keep one of our most important players, and other Australian footballers will take notice of the significant amount of pay Melbourne City can offer Australian players. Undoubtedly Melbourne City should finish better than top 4 next season. The way things and the team are shaping up I'd say some silverware or perhaps a finals appearance should be the expectations upon the club and club staff next season. So hopefully everyone at the club is aiming big, thinking big and talking big heading into the season, because having low expectations heading into the season won't be good enough.
