Gerhadt or go home

Rofl, was telling my brother of when those Semi Trailers almost crushed FB's car just on the weekend.

That will always be a lasting memory.

EDIT: Anyone else see a bit of Cha Du Ri in these youtube Videos of GoHard?

I'm going to be severely disappointed if he isnt more aggressive than Shroj, given whats been read/seen and his new nickname. Need someone on that Materazzi level TBH. That would make me very happy. Blatantly kicking opposition players in the balls, etc.

why hasn't he officially been announced? Didulica confirmed it on twitter, he's already training at the club, yet we still havnt heard any official word from the Melbourne heart website or the newspapers which I find strange.

Presumably there's some 'official' paperwork to lodge and have approved before there can be a formal announcement?

I doubt that we'll get any clear air for a while. Victory get more PR out of someone who's left them than we do over someone who's joined us. And the FFA and the media will be preoccupied with WSW for a long while to come.

especially in the derbies. It was great to see rutger worm put in a crunching tackle on Kewell last season right near where I was sitting, gets the boys fired up. Now that Kewell and Hernandez are gone, hopefully Gerhardt can send Foschini or Jeggo into the grandstand, those guys are hacks.

As for when this signing is announced, maybe the club is trying a new strategy of waiting until the last couple of months before the season to start making announcements. It was always going to be hard with WS and Ange at victory, but I'm sure the club is a bit more relieved now that Kewell and Hernandez are gone.

ROMANIA, Canada and Bosnia are more popular backpacking than soccer destinations and, for the past four years, Melbourne Heart's newest import has called these places home.

So it's little surprise Patrick Gerhardt's elected another tourist hot spot for his latest odyssey.

The Swiss-born midfielder is a current Liberian international who rejected better offers from Russia, Germany and Turkey to sign for Heart.

"I told my manager I wanted a change from Europe, maybe Asia - then he said there was interest from Australia and I thought 'why not?' Australia is a nice country and Melbourne is a great city," Gerhardt said.

"Some players don't care about the destination as long as the money is good, but for me it's not just about the money. The combination must be good.

"I had better offers to go to Russia and some other leagues but I don't want to just stay in a hotel and have no life.

"When I'm not happy I cannot play good football, I must feel comfortable."

Gerhardt, 26, came through the Young Boys Bern ranks and eventually ended up at Bosnian club Zeljeznicar (which produced Man City's Edin Dzeko), playing a key role as they claimed the league and cup double.

A defensive midfielder, he's been capped twice by Liberia, most recently in the 3-1 FIFA World Cup qualifying loss to Papiss Cisse's Senegal on June 2.

Gerhardt, who was alerted to the club by former Heart midfielder Josip Skoko, trained with the squad last week and completed a medical before signing a two-year deal.

Heart coach John Aloisi said he'd been impressed with what he'd seen.

"You can see he's got leadership qualities, he's someone who can coach on the pitch and, even though he doesn't know players well, he's been talking a lot," Aloisi said.

"And he'll break up a lot of play in midfield, which is what we need, plus he's comfortable on the ball."

MEANWHILE, Heart defender Curtis Good has been selected in Paul Okon's 23-man Young Socceroos squad for the AFC U22 Championship qualifiers in Indonesia from July 5-15.

The Young Socceroos take on Indonesia, Macau, Singapore, Timor Leste and Japan in group E, with the top two teams advancing to the finals.

Gerhardt will be wearing number 6 next season with Thompson switching to the number 8. Confirmed by the club on their Facebook page

EDIT:

While primarily a defensive midfielder, Heart head coach John Aloisi said Gerhardt can also be used anywhere across the back four.

"Patrick will bring a lot to the club. Defensive midfield is the position we see him most suited to, but he's versatile," Aloisi said.

maybe an indication that Gray won't be signed?

Who is this "Gray" i read about?

Nice to read a confirmed signing for next season. how many free spots do we still have to fill?

So he didn't sign based on the payer wage???? Lets home this is not just a splash and dash on route to asia.

Either way as long as he is mildly better than shroj then i will be very happy.

Well he signed for 2 years, so if Asia want$ him they will pay for him. Unless of course the club doesn't sign him past the 2 years and he goes on a free...

Any chant ideas? Since Terra has left the "ants go marching" chant is available.

Paddy Go-Hard! Paddy Go-Hard!

Yes mate, I think the consensus was we are going give this a go - As its more original.

http://mhfcsupporters.com/topic/915-paddy-go-hard/

It think it be better save the other tune for Striker (Such as the new one we sign) seeing as we have always used it for Strikers in the past: Terra, Sibon.

Had our first look at him last night. Thoughts?

We've always needed someone who's better at passing out from the back, and I think Paddy could fill that role. Seems to often go for longer passes coming out of defence, and seems to have decent accuracy with them. I thought he looked like he'll fit in well.
