Cost: $250 per person "outrageous"

Really?

I personally hate these sort of things (when I'm not actually involved) and wouldn't go if it was free (though if drinks were free too would start thinking about it), so I guess it depends who its for?  Seemingly club people and people with suits and $250 to splash.

I reckon Germano might be a shout for the Clubman Award. He does work hard for the club, often in spite of his frail body. He was Villa's translator, did a shift in the NYL team even playing as an emergency goalkeeper, and popped up with arguably the most important goal of the season in the must-win final match against Brisbane. And Germano was pretty superb in the final 3rd of the season overall, ready to do a job in any position.

But still Mooy is maybe slight favourite IMO for the Clubman Award (although who knows with that award, as the criteria is pretty vague/open to interpretation).

Aaron Mooy scoops City pool in club awards

Michael Lynch

May 12, 2015

At times this season it felt as though Melbourne City was a one-man team, such was the dominance of midfielder Aaron Mooy and his importance in their tactical set up.

The league's most inconsistent side could rely, it seemed, on only one thing: that whatever the weather, the conditions or the strength of the opposition, Mooy would front up, give his best and quite often be the most influential player on the pitch.

His excellent form was rewarded midway through the season when he was called up by Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou for the national team's friendly against Japan. He missed out on the Asian Cup squad – surely the unluckiest player in Australia to do so – but was recalled for the games against Germany and Madeconia in March, so he clearly still figures in Postecoglou's plans.

That consistency and all-round ability was further recognised on Tuesday night by his own club when Mooy, who joined City from Western Sydney Wanderers at the end of last season,  scooped the pool of awards at Melbourne City's Player of the Year dinner.

Mooy was awarded the Golden Boot, Etihad Supporters' Player of the Year and the Player of the Year.

Former Irish international Damien Duff won the Clubman Award for his contribution both on and off the field, while Phil Petreski was crowned the National Youth League Player of the Year.

Mooy was a virtual ever-present through the season. The only match he missed was the round 24 win over Brisbane Roar because he was with the Socceroos in Europe.

He is primarily regarded as a creative midfielder, but he also weighs in with plenty of goals. The 24-year-old netted seven times this season and made eight assists for his teammates – the only player in the A-League to top both categories for his club.

Mooy ended the season having contributed to 47 per cent of City's season goals, led the entire A-League for balls into the penalty area, completed crosses, completed through balls and shot assists, while defensively he was second in the competition for effective tackles.

The Sydney-born midfielder also topped the league in total crosses (250) and chances created (92), earning him widespread praise and Fox Sports' Alex Tobin Award, although he was overlooked by his peers in the voting for the Johnny Warren Medal, where he didn't figure in the top five in a poll topped easily by Wellington's Socceroo Nathan Burns.

Melbourne City FC head coach John van 't Schip said Mooy's hard work, commitment and ability made him a deserving winner.

"We knew Aaron's capacity and potential and this is one of the reasons we wanted him at the club in the first place; we knew what he could offer us," van 't Schip said.

"What he has achieved with us this year is credit to his hard work and professionalism. His creativity is evident from the amount of goals he has scored and set up this season and his defensive work sets a great example to everyone in the team.

"After his first season, Aaron has demonstrated what a quality player he is and he has been invaluable for us.

Former Chelsea and Fulham winger Duff played 15 matches for City before injury ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign in February.
