The Frank Lampard thread

I agree that a Lampard announcement would be more likely to come from NYCFC first. And there actually was a lot of media pre-World Cup saying that Lampard was going to NYCFC, so it's not like there hasn't been a lot of smoke around that potential move.

But there has been a lot of smoke around Lampard joining our club on a guest stint as well, and whilst I'm not sure how the announcements could (will?) be made, I reckon there's enough media suggestion to think that Lampard coming to our club for a stint remains a real possibility.

I don't believe channel 7 that much, but here's a voice I believe more, Mike Mulvey, and look what he said earlier today:

We’re not about necessarily getting big names but I welcome those big names to Australia, they are fantastic and Melbourne City have done a great job in getting Frank Lampard and David Villa.

"The names are great and the fans will flock to watch these players play in Brisbane. And that’s what we want."

http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/roar-buck-big-names-for-rare-gems-20140715-zta68.html

I think Xavi might well have been a complicating factor on any Lampard announcement, and Xavi becoming on the market again (after the Qatar move fell through recently) could have pushed back the announcement/s about Lampard. The latest on Xavi seems to be that he is pretty much certain to sign a 3 year contract with NYCFC, worth 6 million Euros a year.

Anyway, I think there's bound to be some news probably before this month ends. And I think all the smoke around a Lampard guest stint here might be onto something.

Hopefully all this stalling is because they are convincing lamps to come here permanently. With xavi and FFA being large factors in them pushing for this outcome

God damn, that would be awesome if he came here permanently.

Maybe that explains the recent article from his wife, too?

Our team to be, haha I wish.

Still possible since Drogba is still clubless and Lampard is still a good chance to sign.

My god imagine if we could get Lampard for a season full loan under the salary cap and signing up Drogba.

GAME FUCKING OVER!!!

Each game we will be asking "by how much?" haha

Xavi, Lampard, Villa we should score 4 goals a game for 10 games.

Reported Drogba was offered 6m pounds after tax in Qatar which so far he's turned down, which would be about 20m Australian salary.

Read he may go back to Chelsea, seems his price tag is too high for us, as much as he'd be absolutely the best for us.

Hope we have narrowed our marquees down to 2-3 options and all of them being viable.

Drogba's attitude just seems to be more disruptive than anything.

We need players that want to come to play here and put in some effort, which is what Duff sounds like he wants to do. He looks excited, not just in words but also his body language.

Attitude players will not feature in the CFG blueprint at all..

Balotelli, Tevez lesser extent Mancini and Yaya Toure????

All huge attitudes. This from someone who knows very little of the City players/coaching staff.

In fairness, Balotelli was brought in specifically because Mancini pushed hard for him as the two had been very close before (Balotelli describes Mancini as his second father) and was disposed of when the board members got fed up with his behaviour. Tevez was bought back in 2009, when we were a much more desperate club with fewer of the guiding principles that we currently operate by, and after he went AWOL, his days were numbered at the club. Yaya was always considered quite a quiet character off the pitch until recently. There are already rumblings amongst the fans that City intend to hold him to his contract this season, purely to show him that we don't bow to pressure, and then when it's all blown over in a year or so he'll be sold at the first opportunity.

Holistic? I think too many people get hung up on good to great players need to be great blokes also. To me if they are that's a bonus, but as long as they do their job and don't create too many issues then so be it. Alot of the all time greats have egos and personalities that create frictions. Its these qualities to an extent pushes them to greatness. Ibrahimovic and Suarez to name 2. Both without question are individualist in nature, but are the sort of player you could build a team around to win with. Having said that I would be reluctant to have both in the same team.

I def get your point but sometimes a good team is better than a team of good players...

Clough proved this often enough.

Attitude players will not feature in the CFG blueprint at all..

Balotelli, Tevez lesser extent Mancini and Yaya Toure????

All huge attitudes. This from someone who knows very little of the City players/coaching staff.

That is why Balotelli, Tevez and Mancini have already gone from the club and that Yaya will only be allowed to go if the price is right. The fact that he has now come out and said he wants to stay suggests no other club is willing to pay the asking price.

Since Sorriano and Begerestian have come to the club, the philosophy has changed and team ethic is now the priority rather than the signings of superstars.

This will also be the case with Melbourne. That is why Villa and Lampard would be welcome and Drogba wouldn't.

No wonder Hoffman's still at the club then, he is the heart and soul of the place of course.

Posted in wrong thread before but this one suggest he could still come here

If he signs for NYCFC then I believe he will play in Melbourne for a short period.

He won't sit around just training in England and I can't see CFG wanting him to play against City in the PL

Well I don't know much about Hoffman other that he seems to split opinion on here lol

Personally when I saw Germano play at RB last season (seem to rememeber he came on for Hoffman) I thought he was much better in that position.

I am sure by the beginning of the season the team will be much stronger that it is now.

That is true, germano is the preferable option. Hoffman though is more than ok to cover the position though and is a solid backup if germano happens to be played as right back.

Lampard will come home from his vacation and sign some papers and we´ll know if he´ll play a spell in Melbourne as well.. Next week most likely, unless he and his girl are having a fight right now and Frank have decided to enter a monastery or summat.. <_<

As for attitude players we all know how much they can contribute but sadly they tend to destroy much for the team as well..

http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/story/former-chelsea-midfielder-lampard-set-for-new-york-city-move-071914?cmpid=tsmfb:fscom:FOXSoccer

Frank Lampard looks set to complete his move to New York City FC next week.

Lampard has been without a club since he left Chelsea at the start of June.

The 36-year-old midfielder received a host of proposals from across the world, but it is understood he has decided to accept an offer from the new MLS franchise, which is part-owned byManchester City chief Sheikh Mansour.

It is thought Lampard was highly impressed with the club's vision and he is expected to sign a contract with the franchise next week.

The New York club was formed in May 2013, but will not start competing in the American league until March 2015.

As a result, Lampard could spend some time with New York's sister club Melbourne City FC over the next few months.

Lampard is currently taking a short holiday with his fiancee Christine Bleakley.

During his 13 years at Chelsea, Lampard became the club's all-time record goal scorer and won three Premier League titles and the Champions League, plus the Europa League and four FA Cups.

The midfielder was part of Roy Hodgson's 23-man World Cup squad, but he only made one appearance - inEngland's dead rubber draw against Costa Rica.

The former West Ham man has said he will take a few weeks to decide whether he wants to continue playing for England.
